  1. New Baseball America Mock from today has Twins taking Wright: "The Twins have been in hard on Wright’s last three starts, and in his last five, he’s struck out 51 and walks seven in 39.1 innings while posting a 1.14 ERA. He’s showing up to four plus pitches at times and trending toward being the No. 1 overall pick, as long as the price is right." http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/mock-mlb-draft-3-0-major-league-baseball-draft/#o3pkYr2Fza68hwe5.97
  2. Deep down I'm still hoping it's Greene. Perhaps some of the buzz out there lately about stuff is part of Twins plan to drive price down? If it's not Greene I find myself leaning Wright. At least he's got stuff that can scare ya. McKay seems like as a P/1B combo in college he's a beast, but if he's focusing on just 1 will he ever be elite in MLB? I feel like with both Greene and Wright you've got the potential for an ace - Wright has some worry with throwing motion, and Greene just the sheer time to get there (and time to have things go poorly) but if you're at 1.1 man, shoot your shot.
  3. From Jon Heyman's "Inside Baseball" post today on Twins: Minnesota Twins The Twins have the No. 1 pick in next month’s draft. While Hunter Greene, a right-handed pitcher and shortstop, seems to be the pick of many, one scout warns that the hype may have gotten a bit out of hand, and it seems possible Louisville first baseman Brendan McKay could get the first call. The scout says Greene is exceptional but thinks the publicity machine has gotten ahead of itself. “I’ve seen where he’s the best right-handed pitching prospect out of high school. But Josh Beckett and Dylan Bundy had more “now” to them. They had better breaking balls, and more swing-and-miss stuff,” the scout said. McKay seems like at worst the second choice or third choice. Royce Lewis, a shortstop/outfielder out of Junipero Serra in Orange County, Calif., is a great athlete the scout compares to Ian Desmond, and adds, interestingly, “He has a little Derek Jeter in him.” https://www.fanragsports.com/mlb/inside-baseball-al-notes-white-sox-wont-rush-moncada/
  4. Not the answer I wanted from Callis, haha:
  5. Callis saying he likes McKay more as a hitter, man I wouldn't want to pick a guy who's a good pitcher/good hitter #1. Go with the guy in Greene who could be a GREAT pitcher:
  6. So, Brendan McKay has hit 3 HR's in the same game today.. Think he did kinda get rocked in last game he started though.
  7. Yeah I'm gonna be pretty, pretty bummed/sad if they don't take him.
  8. Must read for Greene fans: https://www.si.com/mlb/2017/04/24/hunter-greene-mlb-draft
  9. Sure sounds like he's still very much in play at 1 with that from John then, IMO.
  10. Listened to BA's podcast today from Manuel/Cooper: McKay (11 min or so): "He's ready now to pitch in a big league rotation." Talks about great fastball location. Also said he's up there with Pavin as best hitter in draft. Wild. Said in a draft like '14 McKay may go around 7 or so, compared to Nola. But he'll go 1/2 in this draft. Also had a long segment talking about the major risks of HS players. Greene (38 min or so): Didn't hear much on him, but: "Hunter Greene wants to try and control where this draft goes." It's here: http://www.baseballamerica.com/viewpoint/mock-draft-podcast-april-21/#oAhplJCHc83WVi4x.97
  11. From our pal Jeremy: I still think it. McKay had an upside of a top-of-the-rotation starter. Ryan @r_mack Replying to @jeremynygaard you've thought Twins draft Greene, right? Also, what is McKay's upside?
  12. Yeah, I get the fact McKay is a safer pick but I'm not a huge fan of going safe at #1. Swing for the fences, and there isn't a more perfect prospect to do that with than Greene. All that said, McKay sounds like he could be pretty good one day. Law said on a vid on ESPN other day that if he focuses on pitching he can be a "star."
  13. Baseball America's newest mock, today: 1. Twins Rumors of the Twins floating deals with several players are circulating, with players as disparate as Southern California prep Royce Lewis to Virginia first baseman Pavin Smith. But the least controversial player on the board is Louisville’s two-way star Brendan McKay, whom the Twins would pick as a pitcher. Pick: Brendan McKay, 1b/lhp, Louisville 2. Reds Hunter Greene, the top prep player on the board and owner of a 100 mph fastball, has had an up-and-down spring, and the rumors of he and his family attempting to maneuver his way to the No. 3 pick with the Padres are a poorly kept secret. The Padres’ throwing program is more in line with Greene’s program, and it’s on the West Coast, among other advantages. Greene isn’t pitching this week in the Boras Classic and is widely believed to be shutting down as a pitcher in another attempt to move down to the third pick. But the Reds, who covet McKay, also aren’t afraid to call Greene’s bluff. 14. Did we draft Hunter Greene yet? #PLZ
  15. Hope it did help at least. Just want to see the De Leon and Alvarez thing come to fruition.
  16. @markasaxon I'm told the #STLCards are not actively pursuing Brian Dozier. That doesn't mean there hasn't been contact at some point, of course. (Sorry about formatting.)
  17. You know, the Twins and Dodgers should really get this done...don't want the fans...erm, I mean the players and their families to have to toil about it and wonder through the holidays!
  18. Not like they have to be in person to complete a deal tho.
  19. Hoping this happens! I love message board sourced rumors - so fun when they turn out true. Couple years ago someone on a Cavs forum predicted the Love/Wiggins trade exactly, his Dad worked in marketing for them. It happens!
  20. David (St. Paul) If you're the twins and both Tate and Jay are at 6, who do you take and why? Klaw (4:28 PM) Tate has more long-term upside but a little more risk. I wouldn't say Jay was the wrong choice. In general I'm not going to say much was wrong this year - it's such a flat, muddled class that if you want to tell me Dansby is a better pick than Rodgers or Jay better than Tate, I'm going to nod and say "good point." There isn't enough room to take dogmatic stances on most of these players.
  21. And if you're a huge nerd and want to follow Tyler Jay's start today: http://www.ncaa.com/game/baseball/d1/2015/06/08/illinois-vanderbilt
  22. KLaw chat is about to begin if you want to throw any Twins questions in: http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/51829/mlb-insider-keith-law
  23. Sorry, I must have edited this JUST before you quoted - I put into the draft day thread.
  24. Keith Law's final mock has Twins with Dillon Tate.
