This past Saturday, we hosted our annual Winter Meltdown, and thus far the general consensus has been that this year's event was the best Meltdown yet. We'd have to say we fully agree! It was a fantastic evening, packed with all things baseball, great conversations, and great company. Read on for highlights and a link to listen to the interviews. Taking place just after the conclusion of TwinsFest on Saturday, January 25th, the 2025 Winter Meltdown brought together more than 250 attendees with a shared passion for Minnesota Twins baseball. There were games played, awesome raffle prizes won, and plenty to see and hear. John Bonnes and Aaron Gleeman, hosts of the Gleeman and The Geek podcast, hosted interviews with three key figures with the Twins. You can listen to the entire interviews here, but here's a quick rundown of what was covered. First, the podcasting partners were joined by Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers, who shared thoughts on a variety of subjects, including: His thoughts on the future of the strike zone, and how technology will impact the way games are called. Impressions of top prospect and fellow North Carolina native Walker Jenkins, with whom Jeffers has spent time training. The path forward for the Twins after last year's season-ending collapse. How much he'll miss Angel Hernandez, everyone's favorite umpire. Shortly after Jeffers kicked off the action, reigning Twins rookie of the year Simeon Woods Richardson took the stage alongside Gleeman and The Geek to reflect on his big-league breakthrough and how he intends to build on it. Among the topics of conversation: Keys to the velocity boost that fueled his success in 2024. How he navigated adapting to the major leagues while filling a key role for a competing team. The surreal experience of learning he was traded to the Twins at 3:00 AM while in Japan. The evolution of his pitch mix as his arm slot changed. Last but certainly not least, the hosts were joined by Cory Provus, TV Voice of the Minnesota Twins. Not only did he share his thoughtful insights about the team and its outlook, but Provus also offered plenty of intriguing tidbits about what we can expect from the broadcasts this year. Among the revelations: New cameras will be incorporated this season, providing unique angles and perspectives including "hero shots" that follow individual players in big moments. Cory expects that up to 15 games will be broadcast over the air this year. Attendees we spoke to during and after the event roundly raved about the guests. We heard folks remark about how knowledgeable Jeffers was, how charismatic Woods Richardson was, and how invested Provus was. We are so grateful to these three for providing Twins fans a deeper glimpse into their personalities and, of course, to John and Aaron for guiding the conversations in such fun directions. Twins Daily's annual Winter Meltdown has featured Twins legends, homegrown big-leaguers, and fan favorites. But we've never featured two players coming off such great years that they both won awards just two days earlier. That changes this year, as we welcome Simeon Woods Richardson and Ryan Jeffers to the stage. Both players will be interviewed on stage, participate in some activities, and stick around to meet our caretakers and their friends. (No autographs, please.) Simeon Woods Richardson Fresh off being awarded Outstanding Rookie by the Minnesota Twins and Twins Rookie of the Year by Twins Daily, starting pitcher Simeon Woods Richardson will take the stage at Winter Meltdown to talk about his breakthrough in the big leagues and how he plans to build on it in the coming year. Acquired from Toronto in the José Berríos trade, Woods Richardson spent a couple of seasons in the minor leagues before stepping into the Twins rotation last year at a time of great need. He delivered in a big way, with a new arm slot and improved velocity, helping him attack MLB hitters. The Twins went 17-11 in his 28 starts after Woods Richardson became a rotation fixture in mid-April. Ryan Jeffers As the Twins' starting catcher, Ryan Jeffers has a unique perspective on the team and its various parts. He works closely with the pitching staff, calls games, and receives from behind the plate. He is a key component of the batting lineup, with rare offensive ability for his position, ranking third among all catchers in wOBA since 2023 (min. 700 PA). As a veteran player who's now been with the Twins for five years, Jeffers is a clubhouse cornerstone with strong knowledge of his teammates and coaches. Plus, the man can provide insights and entertain—so much so that Jeffers earned the "Media Good Guy" Award from the Twins' beat writers. He'll collect that award just two days before the Meltdown at the Diamond Awards. Given all this, we are beyond excited to welcome Jeffers as a featured guest at the Winter Meltdown. We had an unforgettable time watching the Twins secure another thrilling, down-to-the-wire victory at the Twins Daily Social Club Watch Party at Gluek’s Tuesday night. The atmosphere was electric, and the energy from the crowd made it a night to remember. Fans, both loyal regulars and first-timers, came together to celebrate, cheer, and revel in the excitement of the game. It was incredible to connect with so many passionate Twins supporters in such an iconic Minneapolis setting! The sense of community was palpable as soon as we walked through the doors of Gluek’s, a venue that has been synonymous with great food, refreshing drinks, and welcoming hospitality. We set out to create an evening full of good vibes, and we’re happy to say that we delivered! But, of course, none of it would have been possible without all of you who showed up, brought the energy, and kept the Twins talk flowing well into the night. Whether it was reliving some of the greatest moments from past seasons, discussing the team’s current form, or debating strategies for the next game, the conversation was as lively as the action on the screen.
