  1. Is that a reference to the Thomas Mcguane novel(your name)? Love that book.
  2. Com estem Lesser Dali. As fate will have it, I live quite close to the Greater Dali Museum in Figueres and his home in Cadaques and baseball is the only American sport that I still follow, albeit with great zeal. But I digress. The Twins need a middling, back of the rotation starter as much as se hacen falta tetas en un toro.
  3. The head surgeons of the Mayo Clinic that comprise the Twins John Hopkin's- like training staff have concluded that his rectal discomfort is, in fact, an ingrown hair and not a result of riding too much pine. They have recommended a rigorous rest regimen that consists mostly of planking. My advanced metrics calculations have him at .780 OPS, with regression towards the mean (hair).
  4. Obviously, Buster Posey would be an improvement. I'm sure Sabean would accept a Brian Dozier, Trevor Plouffe package for him Catchers like that are a dime a dozen. Plus, we all know Terry has pictures of Brian's Josh Johnson in a glory hole at the Alamo Square public restroom. So many MVP catchers, so little time. That is not a quote.
  5. Those fools at baseball reference.com have him at 38 WAR. And he's already 29.Ha! Worst signing ever. I think the Twins should trade him straight up for A-Rod. They should fire Terry Ryan and put David Kahn in there. Or a three way trade, getting Carl Crawford bundled in. I get dizzy just thinking about betting the under of the vegas line of 60 with that lineup.
  6. Right on brother. I have a three time batting champion, good defensive catcher(great at framing) at 512. I should hook you up with my ex, she forgets anything of merit done after an hour.
  7. I hate them more than anyone. That being said, that rotation will make them an over .500 team in a weak division. OVER.
  8. I continue to insist that Hicks will not be called until after the super 2 cutoff. Mastroianni and Clete til June. Then Hicks and Mama Mastroianni's Ragu for the rest of the year
  9. A quicky with not much wood
  10. I honestly don't see Dozier as Major League ready. Carroll has on base skills and is a better defender. They should give Dozier regular playing time at AAA. Carroll will bat second and probably do better than last year as he has now seen a full season of A.L. pitchers. Your 2013 Minnesota Twins infield. Florimon SS, Carroll 2B, and Escobar as the utility infielder. I kind of wish it was Pablo Escobar so they could increase the payroll.
  11. He was a part owner. I'm not sure that qualifies as GM. Murky waters. I hope you all understand my initial point. A manager definately has say on who he doesn't want on his team and what type of player he feels the team needs to acquire. But it is the job of the GM and assistant GM to target said players and make the deals to acquire them (or get rid of them) as the case may be. I would hope that if Bill Smith had ran the Ramos Capps trade by Gardy, he would have told him to sodomize himself. All conjecture. But I think we can all agree that there were many egregious personnel moves made while Billy boy was GM.
  12. Interesting side note. Calvin's grandson used to make book for me. I should have known.
  13. I stand corrected. I should have said in the last 100 years.
  14. There have been player managers but, as far as I know, there has never been a manager GM. I will have to go meditate in the desert for forty days to solve that riddle within a conundrum.
  15. I was speaking about the book. But I'm sure you are aware the A's won the AL west last year and I'm not willing to attribute that to Bob Melvin's acumen in player acquisitions. Call me crazy. But if that is the case, the Twins should trade Sano, Buxton, Berrios and Warren Buffet to acquire him.
  16. Come on Nick. You know as well as anybody that he has nothing to do with payroll decisions. I'm sure he wasn't a happy camper to lose both his center fielders and thus made that Hicks comment. But six weeks less of Hicks in the bigs is going to have almost no effect on their win total. Maybe they'll win 69 instead of 70. That being said, I'm going big on the over of 64.5. It's already moved up. That starting pitching disaster from last year happening again is about as likely as likely as Ponder throwing for 5000 yards next season.
  17. Gardy's input is who he doesn't want on the team (think Lohse) and what type of player (supposed closer etc.) he does want. But he has no say on who gets traded to get that player.
  18. Wow. I managed to include Steven Hawkins and (indirectly) Noam Chomsky in a baseball thread. Lets play six degrees of Marx (Karl not Groucho)
  19. I'm trade marking this. A brief history of untimely trades. If the Twins weren't such a loyal organization, Billy would be scouting in East Timor.
  20. Little known fact. During the winter GM meetings they have the winter manager's meetings at a Super 8 motel in Cedar Rapids. That's where the big moves are made.
  21. Yeah I'm sure he said to Billy, why don't we trade our consensus number two prospect on a closer that the mighty Pirates DFA'd the year before. Don't want to get into a sabr metrics argument but his peripherals pegged him as a league average middle reliever at best. It's not Capp's fault that Bill Smith is an idiot. Why do you think Ryan came back? I could sell that idiot Smith a bridge in Brooklyn.
  22. Managers have input on who they don't want on their team but they have nothing to do with trades.
  23. He might have thought Garza was a head case but I'm pretty sure he didn't propose trading Bartlett and Garza for Delmon Young. And I would bet my life on his not having anything to do with the Ramos for Capps trade. Bill Smith makes David Kahn look like Steven Hawkins. Insert black hole joke here.
