Article: How Trevor Plouffe Became A Run Producer
zchrz replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Plouffe has fulfilled most of the prophecy to become Micheal Cuddyer. He should be resigned but ultimately he is keeping that bag warm for Sano. Once he arrives Plouffe can be shifted to the OF or to a Zobrist/ Cuddyer utility role. At any point along the way if someone offered me a good package for him I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger. How does his value compare to Denard Span, the last guy the twins sold high on? His skill set as 3B/ middle of the order bat appeals to more teams and does more for their possible pennant chase than a leadoff guy. Span is a better defender at a more premium defensive position. Plouffe has a much cleaner injury history and isn't coming off a concussion. If Span netted Meyer (despite weather he works out or not) I think Plouffe could return more. The Twins have bats aplenty coming, I think another possible stud pitcher would be an awesome addition. -
I like it. Rosario gets his first taste of the majors and it isn't a big deal if he gets sent back down later (like Polanco last year) and Hicks gets to continue to build on his success, he has been bounced around enough let him get a good half season in. Arcia sure gets hurt a lot for as bulky and solid a person he is, and right when he was starting to hit as well.

The Return of Mike Pelfrey's Arm
zchrz commented on PogueBear's blog entry in Underwriting the Twins
If Pelfry is really back to his old self then we should expect a guy that hovers around 4.5 - 5 era and pitches about 6 innings a start. May certainly shouldn't be sent down in favor of him and Meyer should be handed his spot as soon as he claims it. -

Article: Which Righty Relievers Can Get Lefties Out?
zchrz replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It would be nice to have a lefty specialist, Duensing doesn't make life much harder for lefties. But its not that big a deal, the bullpen is in a holding pattern until some kids start to claim their spots. Hopefully there will be a lot of movement in that department this year, making the group of extremely replaceable arms that are currently being brought north serve their purpose of being easily replaced.- 19 replies

Article: Twins Make Cuts, Name Starters
zchrz replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Problem is May and Pelfry haven't really shown a propensity to avoid jams or get out of them. I would have rather they gone with May but Milone can be a more than serviceable 5th starter, and maybe can even build up a little trade value for when May/ Meyer force their way to the MLB.- 71 replies

Article: Five Beliefs Reinforced In Spring Training
zchrz replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
2. I am high on Gibson, he has the stuff to be really good. RHers get eaten alive by the sinker when he has it going, its damn near unfair. He needs to get LHers out and end 2 strike counts quicker, if he does that with a little more swing and miss stuff with the uptick in velocity or better command of his off speed stuff watch out. 5. I'm not ready to panic about Meyer, but if he can't crack the rotation this year he is probably in the bullpen. The stuff is there but he has to be consistent with it, I think the Deduno comp as a good thing is kinda funny considering he is in the bullpen in Houston now where the wild guys end up.- 18 replies

Article: Late Inning Gas is Coming. Get Ready
zchrz replied to Sam Morley's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Dominate bullpens in the modern game are a major advantage. You can more supplement a less dominate starting staff with a dominate bullpen. Closers are overpaid and overated somewhat but bullpen aces are not. You want your best reliever to pitch as many high importance innings as possible, if there are good hitters in the 9th that is often the moment, but if its facing the 3-4-5 hitters in the 8th or getting the crucial out in the 7th that is the optimal time weather a save is available or not. If there are 2 or 3 shut down guys 1/3 of the game is near gone no matter what order you put them in.- 46 replies

Article: Torii Hunter is Returning to the Twins
zchrz replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am alright with this, its a nostalgia signing but at least it should actually work (unlike Kubel, Bartlett, didn't they resign Jones for a moment as well). Nice that it is one year, if it goes good they can do it again and if it goes bad, or prospects force the issue, its done. His bat is still good and he can slide into somewhere between 3-6 in the order. As a bonus point he might be able to get Hicks going and Buxton isn't that far away TR's sacred center field lineage is back. -
Article: Who Says No? Trevor Plouffe Edition
zchrz replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't think they should commit long term to Plouffe, he isn't an ideal fit for this organization going forward if he is one of the mid to bigger salary eaters on the roster. He has certainly improved a lot and looked like an actual big league 3rd baseman last year, but it would be foolish to block getting the utmost value out of Sano which is at 3rd. Then Plouffe has to become Micheal Cuddyer, can he adjust to the outfield like Cuddy did? Can he continue to progress with the bat? That is the gamble you have to take if he doesn't adjust your stuck paying 10+ to Cuddyer lite. I would ride out his arbitration years seeking a trade partner, if that happened sooner than later that would be fine because Escobar is much cheaper, more versatile, and a better defender. -
Article: Who Says No? Brian Dozier Edition
zchrz replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Gyorko got 5 and 35, Seager got 7 and 100, both are comparable players and I would expect Dozier to be somewhere in the middle of that. 6 for 50-60 is in the neighborhood for Dozier. I wouldn't mind if he got traded but I think he gets resigned because he is becoming a major club house presence and seems like the kind of player that is right up Molitor's avenue. -
That swing is awful noisy, his hands travel all around in his load. Last year Santana really surprised me having so much success so early because he had some of these same knocks against him, doesn't take a walk, overly aggressive, questionable if hes ready on defense. He made the jump seamlessly because of his super polished swing and Rosario doesn't have that going for him. Make him earn it in AAA, I like that they are being more aggressive with prospects (position guys anyway) but some need the AAA time.

Article: On Twins Pitching and Philosophy
zchrz replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The dome and the state of the organization made the Twins heavily favor groundball staffs. Now Target Field is nice and spacious and the organization is moving away from the dark ages some. It scares me that Bert and Jack Morris are being talked about as pitching coach candidates, I like them both in the booth but keep them the hell away from the pitching staff.- 34 replies

Article: How "Different" Is Paul Molitor?
zchrz replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I will be happy with any of the 3 finalists but Molitor is the 3rd on that list for me. He has all the playing achievments and stat head inclinations that are appealing and would certainly be a welcome change from the way Gardy ran things. But he doesn't strike me as someone who is going to be a very good players manager or a very long term solution. I am still holding out hope for Mientkiewicz, I think he is going to be a very good manager and probably not available for hire the next time the Twins are in the market. -
Article: Twins Trade Targets
zchrz replied to RealTwinsFan357's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Probably would have to be Dozier. I doubt they want future potential much as the window on Strasburg may be closing for them. I would lean towards trading Dozier for Gio straight up but I seriously doubt TR is going to trade the clubhouse leader guy after replacing the manager.- 164 replies

Article: If I Owned the Twins...
zchrz replied to VeryWellThen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If I owned the Twins I probably wouldn't care about baseball and just spend my days in a swimming pool full of money. Actually I would care a little bit I would at least go to the field once and watch that monstrosity in the outfield get torn down and replaced by a gigantic light up hypnotic pine tree.
