  1. Sadly, the quickest way to a rebuild for the Twins is to take their current talent (Mauer, Morneau, Span & Willingham) and trade them for pitching or MLB-ready prospects. I don't see any other way. We have no SP prospects in the pipeline, save for possibly Gibson next season. How are we going to suddenly infuse the the team with pitching talent? Do the Twins really need to continue paying Mauer & Morneau over 30 millions dollars a year to finish last? Keeping them on the team is pointless. It puts us in between rebuilding and trying to contend. The Twins need to commit to a full-on rebuild. I like Span, but he's a tradeable asset. We need to move him while his value is high. Willingham as well. The casual fans will scream about this and talk about the new stadium & trading our best players and getting rid of a local hero, but the smart baseball fan will see that there's no other way to infuse talent into this organization. Management can't afford to sit on their hands and try and rebuild this thing through drafts and development. It's too long a process. We need good young arms now. Attendance is already way down. The Twins are the worst team in baseball and are following up the disaster of 2011 with something even worse. Can they really wait until 2015 to give the fans hope again?
  2. If 18HR/72RBI guys are a dime-a-dozen, why don't the Twins have a bunch of them? So, only a 40HR power hitter is worth the #1 pick in the draft? I guess a guy like Mike Trout wouldn't be worth a #1 pick this year. Name 1 guaranteed superstar in this year's draft. (You can't. There's no such thing)
  3. Bert is the worst. THE WORST. He and Dick are so bad it's nauseating. TK is a breath of fresh air and even a clown like Dick Bremer can't ruin his time in the booth. TK actually comments on the game instead of trying to "spin" the game like Dick & Bert. That's a nice change. Anything that gets Bert out of the booth is OK with me.
  4. Can Plouffe get a little time in the OF before he's written off? The guy barely has any experience out there but we just want to "send him packing" right now? The Twins are likely a last place team this year. Why not give Plouffe a chance to show what he does (or doesn't) have on a fairly regular basis?
  5. I don't know.....he had excellent power numbers in AAA last year and hit 8 HR in his short time with the Twins last season. He's 25. He's a HS position player and i think he's developing a little late. You can't sit him on the bench 5 days in a row and expect him to hit on the 6th. Why not give him a ton of ABs this year as a corner OF? He's mobile and has a good arm. The only way his defense will improve is to play. Are we afraid to take ABs away from 28 year old Clete Thomas? If Plouffe gets a ton of ABs and sucks, so be it. He's no good, you know it and you move on. But.....what if he does well? He's a 1st round pick that had a nice year in 2011. Why not find out exactly what he is? We're not chasing a pennant this year.
  6. It's hard to sit on the bench 3 out of every 4 games, then get up to the plate and rake. I have no expectations of Burroughs. He's going to play once a week, provide good D and his bat will be weak. Plouffe has been swinging the bat well lately. He doesn't have much to show for it, but if he's given the ABs i have confidence that he could provide some consistent pop. Hopefully Gardy is over his infatuation with Clete Thomas and we'll see Plouffe get more ABs. It's a losing season. Plouffe is a guy that should get a lot of playing time. Let's see what he can do over a full season in the majors. I think he's a corner OF guy, but could be used like Cuddy was to spell 2B or 1B from time-to-time.
  7. Why would we take a college pitcher that is a potential #3 or #4 starter with the #2 pick in the draft over a guy with a much higer cieling? If our scouts are doing their jobs, shouldn't we be able to find that type of pitcher in the supplemental round? Just because the current Twins pitching staff sucks doesn't mean we should run out and draft a bunch of good (not great) college pitchers. Every pick is a risk. Give me a guy that has the potential to be a superstar at #2. You're not going to be in that draft position very often. Why play it "safe" (when there is no such thing as safe)? I'll take Buxton for sure, and Zunino over the college arms at that spot.
  8. Please let us see Buxton or Zunino with the 2nd pick. The college arms are not high-end guys this year. Why bother with them? We need to take a potential superstar at #2.
  9. Would we really be excited to draft a futre #3 starter with the #2 pick? If Buxton never develops huge power, he's still got speed and a cannon arm. You can't draft for need unless you're on the cusp of something great. The Twins need to take the best possible player available, no matter the position.
  10. I think you have to draft a player at #2 that has a chance to be great. If the college pitchers available profile as future #2 or #3 starters, i think you go with a higher upside position player. If Buxton is there, you don't pass him up for a future mid-rotation starter just because that player will be ready sooner.
  11. I have to beleive that Plouffe is going to be factored into the mix at 1B with Doumit & Mauer. He's basically Cuddyer II so why not get his 1B apprenticeship underway?
