  1. If Andre Dawson's in the Hall of Fame, why not Fred McGriff?
  2. Pierre has four 200+ hit seasons and another season with 196 and has 40+ steals 12 times. Span can't carry Pierre's jock.
  3. I'm puzzled by a lot of derisive comments comparing Revere to Juan Pierre as a way of arguing the Twins should ditch Revere before Span. Juan Pierre is a better player than Denard Span will ever be. Pierre has 2,100 career hits and could end his career in the neighborhood of 2,500. If Ben Revere has Juan Pierre's career he should be very grateful.
  4. At some point, probably much sooner rather than later, don't you have to get rid of either Span or Revere to clear the log jam that's about to emerge in the OF? If it's me, I'd rather trade the guy who will turn 29 before next season, is hurt all the time and pouts at the mere suggestion the Twins might be better if he moved to right so Revere could play center.
  5. I've always thought that because of his anxiety disorder this market might be ideal for him. I would think NY or Boston might eat him alive. Somebody else brought up Marcum maybe he'd be a better fit than Greinke. I think I'm on an island with this one but I'd try to leverage either Span or Morneau in a deal for Vogelsong from the Giants. SF has needs thanks to the Melky debacle and the fact that Belt is still a question mark.
  6. I know Span doesn't make a ton of money but what if TR says to himself: "I can put Revere in center and not lose much and then if I flip Morneau and Span $20 million comes off the books and I can make a sincere run at Greinke." Would you essentially trade Morneau and Span for Greinke? I'm not a great sabermetrics mind (my two-year old probably gets sabermetrics better than I do) but I think at first blush I'd make that trade.
  7. Puckett would have had very strong seasons as a full-time DH in his late 30s. The guy could have been fatter than Sandoval and slower than Thome and it wouldn't have mattered. He was a hitting savant, pure and simple.
  8. I certainly wouldn't argue that personality trumps talent but I do think it matters. This is a team badly in need of some exuberance and leadership. You have a lot of really good guys on this roster but those same guys are very low key and quiet.
  9. I have no love for Butera so bringing in a salty old vet in the Redmond mold would be fine by me. I think the idea of Mauer having less value in right than he does at catcher is very valid. But I like Parmalee better at first. It seems to me if you want any chance to get Mauer back to his '09 offensive value you have to get out from behind the plate permanently. I love the idea of Mastroianni in left with Revere in center and those guys 1-2 in the lineup. I also think Willingham is the perfect DH, then he doesn't have to worry about anything other than mashing.
  10. Glad to see this thread, I've been thinking about this a lot lately. If you're able to flip Span and Morneau, why not a lineup of: 1- Revere, 8 2- Mastroianni, 7 3- Mauer, 9 4- Willingham, DH 5- Parmalee, 3 6- Plouffe, 5 7- Doumit, 2 8- Dozier, 4 9- Florimon, 6 Bench: Carroll Escobar Butera Carson Doumit catches 100-110 games with Butera catching the rest. Or, sign a veteran in the vein of Tom Prince/Mike Redmond to catch the non-Doumit games. With Mauer, Gardy still has is beloved emergency catcher.
  11. Sorry, I meant in terms of personality he reminds me of Hunter. Revere and Hunter are obviously radically different players. I'm bothered by how injury prone Span is, too. If Mauer had missed time because he was scared of the MRI machine Twins Territory would have gone ballistic.
  12. I respectfully disagree. I think it's Span who's reached his ceiling. Span is who he is. I think Revere, as he learns to work counts, draw walks and bunt, has a chance to become an elite leadoff hitter. It's not a slam dunk, but he has a chance. Span doesn't. Span isn't an engaging personality either, which with this current team, I think matters. Revere has a chance to become a leader in the club house and a bridge builder with casual fans. I can also see Revere relating to children in a way nobody has since Puckett. There's just something about the guy, in my opinion. I sort of see Revere as a Torii Hunter kind of personality minus the occasional outbursts of anger and selfishness.
  13. Puckett: 2 Mauer: 0 That is all.
  14. Twins Twerp: I fear you're right on Greinke, but you can't blame me for dreaming. Greinke would do well here; I think his, shall we say, quirky personality would endear him in this market. I love Vogelsong too. A guy's who's earned everything the hard way. If Romero is a pipe-dream, perhaps Morneau for Vogelsong? As far as Span, I'd give him away for a B prospect. Anything to get Revere in center.
  15. If the goal is to trade both Span and Morneau, which I think it should be, why not plan for Parmalee at first and Mauer in right? Mauer is a better athlete than Parmalee and seems more adaptable to right. You'd have to think that right would put even less wear and tear on Mauer's body than first would. A full season in right could mean a return to batting titles for Mauer. From there, why not Revere in center and Mastroianni in left with Willingham as the every day DH. That way you don't have to rush any of the OF kids. Revere leading off with Mastroianni in the two-hole could be really exciting.
  16. How about Span and a prospect to the Giants for Ryan Vogelsong? Then flip Morneau to the Jays for Ricky Romero and an upside pitching prospect. Used the money saved to make a competitive offer to Greinke. That gives you a rotation of: Greinke, Vogelson, Romero, Diamond and Gibson. You could then start Hendricks in AAA.
