  2. According to Baseball America, the Twins have signed outfielder Ryde Rodriguez to a minor league contract. The 24-year-old is from Havana, Cuba. He signed with the Cardinals in 2008 as a free agent and stayed with the organization until last season. After 13 games in the Florida State League, he was released. He signed with Rockland of the CanAm League. In 56 games, he hit .267/.325/.385 with 10 doubles and four home runs. Looks like a little organizational depth. If he sticks, he could play in Ft. Myers in 2012. It might depends upon whether Aaron Hicks and/or Angel Morales begin the season with the Miracle.[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]

  4. There are (yes, admittedly) a couple of errors that I have found since releasing the Minnesota Twins Prospect Handbook 2012 in January. Which Twins prospect is listed as being from the wrong country? http://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/minnesota-twins-prospect-handbook-2012/18828149?productTrackingContext=search_results/search_shelf/center/3
  5. Teflon, Gutierrez was an obvious choice to add to the 40 man roster in November... his 40 man spot is about as safe as it gets at this point.
  6. Good question... I'd say there are a couple of options. You could feel free to e-mail me any questions. I'd also say that you shouldn't be embarrassed. I think another good idea would be to start a new Forum thread. Sometimes a question has one easy answer. Sometimes there isn't necessarily one straight-forward answer and the discussion in the forum may give you a couple of ideas with which to develop your own opinion.
  7. How many drug tests did Barry Bonds fail? I don't think that PEDs help significantly. DWade wrote a great article about this topic for SI.com several months ago.
  8. Outside of Target Field, my favorite is probably Coors Field. Then again, I've only also been to Milwaukee County Stadium and Miller Park, and Comerica.
  9. Nah, I don't pay for anything... although I did get a copy of Baseball America in the mail last week. I don't know why. I was very happy!
  10. Gardenhire said before camp that he wouldn't be afraid to hurt people's feelings, so we may see more quotes as direct as this. I wouldn't make too much of this one outing, but I think Gardy's point that he needs to maintain a game's pace is something that Gutierrez will need to work on in subsequent spring outings. Remember last year in Spring Training, he went like 10 scoreless innings, but that hid the fact that he gave up something like 9 hits and 8 walks. This is kind of the opposite. But Gutierrez will likely have to show improvement quickly. Now that he's on the 40 man roster, it is likely he will likely be among the first players sent back to minor league camp (along with Robertson, Arcia, etc.).
  11. Hermsen had a terrific 2011 season. I think he'll likely spend the entire season in Ft. Myers. If he pitches really well, he could move up to New Britain. It will be interesting to see if the Twins add him to the 40 man roster after the season.
  12. On my podast Tuesday night, Bates said that he was a catcher until his last year in college. He said he still goes and catches bullpens when needed in spring training. He should try to get some time behind the plate. I think all three of them go to AAA and move around, like Nick said. Bates has primarily played 1B, but he spent a full season as a LF as well. Pearce has played all over. I think Parmelee gets the prospect status meaning most of the play at 1B.
  13. If it was me, I may put Revere in CF with Span in LF. I think that would be best. However, so many forget that when Span got hurt last summer, he was the #1 CF in all of baseball in UZR and was #1 in catches Out of Range. So, it's not like they're losing a ton by having Span in CF. I just like that the two of them are in LF and CF, covering so much space in that outfield. If healthy, both will be quite valuable for the Twins.
  14. I'll be making the Quad Cities/Beloit trip in June. Hope to meet many of you there!
  15. I'll be on the Beloit trip this June. Looking forward to it!
  16. Anyone else old enough to remember Colt Griffin?
  17. I guess I didn't hear if he got hit that hard or if he was wild. Either way, not a great first impression, to be sure.
  18. That's the big question... will he be available? If not, Appel makes some sense.
  19. I'm a fan of For the Love of the Game... and, "Funky Butt Lovin'" has kept me laughing ever since... I still throw it out from time to time!
  20. Friend of and contributor to Twins Daily Aaron Bates with a 2-run homer off his old team.
  21. I'd definitely argue about blyleven. I'd for sure put Jim Kaat in front of him. I think Kaat is the best pitcher in Minnesota Twins history.
  22. And from David Dorsey via Twitter, here is the Red Sox lineup, including an old Twins friend: #RedSox lineup: SS Iglesias, RF Lin, C Lavarnway, DH Kroeger, 3B Middlebrooks, 1B Anderson, CF Repko, 2B Tejeda, LF Hassan. RHP Bard
  23. And this morning, LaVelle Neal has posted the actual lineup. Twins lineup for B game: Revere (7) Chang (4), Tosoni (9), Benson (8), Dinkelman (DH), Bates (3), Dozier (6), Towles (2)Florimon (4). Note - I think it's just fine to be excited about a scrimmage, the first scrimmage of the year!
  24. Jared Burton's numbers the last three years he was healthy are much better than Wheeler's the last three years. Bulger's got great strikeout numbers in his MLB and AAA careers. With Waldrop, Gutierrez, Manship, Oliveros and Burnett, there is much more potential than any of the free agents they could ahve signed. Like I said, if they're just going to get average guys, I'd rather give the young guys a shot. If they can get a difference-maker, like Uehara (without giving up the farm!), I'd be in favor.
