  1. Of all the moderators on all the message boards you are some of them. (And you do a great job in a mostly thankless role)
  2. I would say Royce Lewis is the only one they might really regret. And I probably wouldn't trade Wander Javier considering his current value. Otherwise everyone else should be on the table.
  3. Lots of competition for the wild card. Even an optimistic look at the Twins has them outside looking in right now behind Yankees, Boston, Cleveland, Houston, Angels. They need to get to work.
  4. I don't know if anyone suggested going all in or called the season a failure. Seems like an exaggeration.
  5. Seems about right. Based on Seth's list, I'd have #16, and bump Pearson well behind him.
  6. Poker's a terrible analogy for this situation. The basic information never changed, it was all right in front of them. Which is why flip flopping three different times between buying, selling and trying to buy again never made any sense. And we do know (somewhat) how the front office felt about their decision, they did answer questions about it after the fact.
  7. I don't follow what you are saying. The front office made a blunder last trade deadline, admitted it with their actions and admitted it as much as they could with their words. Should I be more clear? Less clear? It's not a disaster, they shouldn't be fired, and it is probably even understandable. But it is worth repeating if people rate their performance as "crushing it". They were too light last offseason and were wrong on their analysis last deadline.
  8. That's a fair argument. I will say it was a blunder, but it's not a huge one, affected the 2017 season only, and the franchise is in better shape right now than it was before the deadline. But I don't think it was worth the marginally better position the franchise is in now over taking less of a shot last year when they were in the playoffs. Overall, this isn't that big of a deal, but is a data point against saying they are "crushing it" as a front office. That said, I am pretty optimistic as a whole about the front office and I think it was a good change from the Ryan regime.
  9. Who said anything about blowing things up? I have said a veteran bat (who were basically free last deadline) and a reliever. Or, at the very least, not trade an existing good bullpen piece. Moya was an unrelated trade to any of these moves (and a good one too).
  10. They also did a good job with the draft pool in 2013, helped them to nab Gonsalves as an overslot 4th rounder. And as mentioned, they just quietly and without drama spent their full allotment of international money each year. The big difference was the trade deadline machinations, but obviously I don't see that as a point in the new front office's favor. Doing nothing (perhaps the outcome of a Ryan front office) would have been a better outcome.
  11. I would agree that at the time they thought they made the right call. I would hope that's the case! But subsequent events, which could have been foreseen and were actually predicted on this very site (such as the schedule becoming easier and other teams slipping), showed that they blundered.
  12. Just their quotes and interviews in the weeks that follow. Obviously they aren't going to go on record and say they screwed up, but they were actively trying to add in August and saying the team played better than they thought it would.
  13. Ultimately I do agree with this. These are small mistakes that only impacted 2017. Big picture is the franchise is in really good shape going forward. I think the front office will likely do just fine, but I would like to see it first.
  14. It's fine, there's a lot of ignoring of facts going around these days. I would add that the front office agrees it was a blunder (after the fact). They worked very hard in August to remedy it!
  15. Of course I believe this. I don't think playoff spots can be taken for granted. Certainly it was a long shot, but they were there. Adding some marginal prospects doesn't make me feel better for taking less of a chance. Imagine a veteran dh coming up in the first inning instead of Buxton, having extendes the luneup, and really blowing the game open.
  16. While I have never agreed, I would accept that trading assets at the deadline could be seen as the appropriate move. But in hindsight it is absolutely a blunder. It really does blow my mind that adding some marginal guys can make up for this as a hindsight analysis. And phenomenal is really a stretch here. Adding a couple of depth pieces is certainly better than nothing, but there was talent out there that was worthwhile to pursue that they either passed on or missed out on.
  17. Ynoa. I would take him ahead of Enns and probably the two guys added for international space. But I guess on second look I'd take Watson.
  18. Two specific moves they could have made would have been adding a veteran bat and a solid reliever. Could have had a different result against the Yanks. And next round who knows. I really don't see myself as half empty, but I also won't accept crusing it either. They've done ok, considering the deadline blunder and the circumstances with international money this offseason. One thing that was conveniently not mentioned in the prospect additions is that the Twins may have also traded away the second best prospect of group. It wasn't just moving money.
  19. Seems to me Terry Ryan would have enthusiastically traded away the chance to spend some money for some marginal prospects.
  20. Adding prospects instead of mlb takent last trade deadline was a blunder, and missing out on the top international talent this offseason shouldn't really be a cause for celebration. They've done OK considering these circumstances, but this is some impressive spin.
  21. So does Falvey or Levine get executive of the year in 2018 or do they split it?
  22. Do we actually know the timing of the failed physical though? All we know is when it became public, and that was only found out when a national writer posted available international pools due to Ohtani becoming available. If they voided the contract in August or September, which seems likely, there would be nothing especially fishy about that.
  23. LEN3 reports that the Twins actually offered more than the Angels for Maitan: http://www.startribune.com/twins-just-missed-on-coveted-baseball-prospect-kevin-maitan/462600173/ Money quote: Also, this tease:
