  1. it might not be obvious from this morning's box scores, but i got incredibly lucky last night. well, that's if you discount the fact i got chacin's and latos' worst starts of the season. but anyway, at one point i was down ~10 points, with price in line for a W and my pitchers in line for losses, when the following happened: - price and rays bullpen allow orioles to come back (net gain 10 points) - indians game gets called after 7 innings (he has santana, kipnis and swisher) - melancon blows save, allows latos to escape without loss (net gain 16 points) - chacin pulled, rockies take lead in bottom of inning (net gain 15 points) yeah, those W and L swings in our scoring system are way too big. hopefully we can find some resolution.
  2. if i lose i hope it's by more than 10 since i forgot to start Jansen when he got a saved the other night! i'm probably the underdog right now. my pitching matchups were less than ideal. he's got some studs going up against bad teams/pitchers. but who knows.
  3. as a general matter i disagree with the idea that the MLB draft isn't helpful to the bottom-feeders (not necessarily your argument but i've seen it brought up in the past by fujimo and others). i've personally dropped some solid players for that draft. they come in all forms - aging veterans and high-upside underachievers. the problem is that a lot of the bottom-feeders completely mismanage their teams and (a) don't load up on high-upside talent and ( pick up aging veterans and don't trade them. for example, the year i dropped jeff samardzdja - he should've been a prime target for the bottom teams. instead, they take guys like Jon Garland or Jeff Francis, and to make matters worse, they refuse to trade them! I tried to get David Ortiz and Mariano Rivera off williemoes 100x this season and he refused. it's hard to feel sympathetic for teams like that. anyway, you guys should root for me because if i win i'll probably pull a billybuck and prematurely start rebuilding. i feel like a lot of my older guys are teetering on the edge of the productivity cliff within the next 2-3 years. would probably move everyone except for like bumgarner.
  4. fyi, below is the email i sent to tim for offseason topics
  5. yeah "even" trades where i get younger have been a successful strategy for me in this league. traded utley for cano, traded holliday for upton, traded tulowitzki for andrus, etc. problem now is that a lot of the young talent is concentrated on a small number of well-managed teams (tangerine, billy buck) and i don't think they will be easy to pry away. i'd love to move fielder this offseason. i forget what the winner's purse is but at this it's more about winning than the money. before you were in the league i had the championship game won and then on sunday night baseball mariano blew a save which put me back behind shining. basically if mo didn't come in i would've won. i've had lots of bad luck in fantasy but that took the cake. i'm fortunate to be in a position to win this year because i'm pretty sure that radiation, shemshank and kirk's team were all superior squads.
  6. thought i was dead in the water but my team had a huge second week to pull out the win(even with leaving a billion points on my bench). hopefully can pull out the win vs nick. we were super close to a monster deal - cano, andrus, aramis ramirez, sabathia for kipnis, hanley, alvarez, nova but couldnt agree on the side-filler before the deadline. if we had another hour it probably wouldve gone through. will be interesting to see how the matchup shakes out in light of that
  7. ugh, of course i have to play "team two-start" this round.
  8. 50pt difference and 2 SPs each, you're a dog but it wouldn't be shocking if you won. to be honest i'd much rather face billybuck than your squad. looks like you just run unlucky into big weeks by the likes of schierholtz, parra, and somehow the marlins scrounging up enough run support for two fernandez wins.
  9. bump for playoffs kirk and billybuck seems to be only close matchup remaining
  10. the funny thing is that cain ended up sucking, so steve is probably loving it. on the other end of the spectrum, i'm becoming really frustrated with people who SHOULD be rebuilding but aren't. i understand i might not be the easiest person to trade with but i just don't understand how these .500 teams are totally OK with hanging onto their 38 year old veterans. also something that i'm somewhat pissed about that went on behind the scenes: i facilitated a big three-team trade and then got cut out at the last second without me knowing. business is business and all but i thought that was in bad form lol
  11. there aren't too many complete pushovers anymore
  12. i'm not high on archer at all either
  13. anyone else think that strasburg trade is awful? dont want to accuse anyone of collusion but damn i offered latos OR mccutcheon+more, not sure how that isnt a better offer.
  14. you got a nice haul. i'm not joking when i say terdo is a lock top 100 prospect in the midseason rankings. his only problem is that he's in an NL system and can't play the field. and jeamar is a 25 year old getting SP innings, nice icing on the cake.
  15. it hasn't been processed but supposedly strasburg got dealt for zunino and archer, which is a complete LOL if true. i e-mailed 86ers that i would be willing to build an offer around latos and he just ignored me (which he always does no matter what, no idea why). my team is looking strong again - nabbed Jannsen from Noah for Terdoslavich and Jeanmar Gomez. Seems fair.
  16. jose fernandez is a nice piece in this league but he's not too important for someone in win-now mode as long as wins are worth 10 points and losses are minus 5. im basically out of prospects and don't see myself making any more big trades unless i pull a prospect off the waiver list like i did last year (cingrani).
  17. i was trying to snag CarGO by offering Mccutcheon for Cargo + upgrade elsewhere but he wasn't biting. Cargo actually having a better season than McCutch. Really like that move for your team and very nice to see a strong team inexplicably rebuilding.
  18. well, a lot of the "stronger" teams benefit from the bad teams (correctly) deciding to full-on tank. some teams are REALLY bad. like, don't even field a full team bad. coming into the year i thought that Radiation, DEM and 86ers would dominate but that obviously hasn't been the case. I think your're underestimating your team though Kab. it's really hard to be bad when your 5th best starter is matt garza. he's a #2/3 on most teams. and having one of the best players in the world in votto doesn't hurt either. pseudo's team is going to be solid if pineda and bauer pan out. then you can start flipping prospects and your moderate-upside semi-busts (snider, tabata, ramos, maybin) to the really bad teams for older veterans to fill holes. the fact that you have a decent 2B and SS puts you in a better position than most teams. you're really just screwed at 1B and 3B (but everyone is screwed at 3B except kab)
  19. yeah radiation isn't going anywhere. looks like DEM is done for, though. i like your matt barnes trade, kab. pseudo, you sniped me on Lyons.
  20. I'll be ecstatic if 86ers throws in the towel. There aren't too many scary teams this year. --DEM and Williemoes each have a great rotation but not a championship offense. --Radiation is totally stacked but is currently decimated by injuries; hopefully the loses keep piling on and he falls behind before his studs can get healthy? Maybe wishful thinking. --25 Alive has a nice team but is loaded with guys who are overperforming. I think he'll regress soon enough. I think you and I are probably the favorites at this point (although it seems like this has been the case before and we both get unlucky at the wrong times). --
  21. yeah I agree with this. i think young superstars tend to be undervalued here. only time it makes sense to trade one of them is if you can get a slightly more productive veteran (kinda like when you and i swapped holiday for justin upton). swapping stanton for minors players just doesnt make sense unless its something completely insane like profar + bundy + myers or whatever.
  22. is this your first time playing fantasy bball?
  23. 2B and SS have quietly become deeper positions. 3B is a freaking wasteland, though. You can probably get a nice haul for Sandoval.
  24. Thanks. Yeah, I agree re Buchholz, I expect a big regression in the next couple of months and while he's a decent SP, he's definitely no Bumgarner (while being 4-5 years older). I think young SP is basically a necessity to compete in this league and I now I can relax a bit with Latos / Bumgarner (and to a lesser extent, Chacin) for the next few years, supplementing solid older guys like CC, Dempster, Nolasco. Breaking it down as Clay + Wacha for Bumgarner and Couler + Sanchez + Pick for A-Ram makes me feel much better about it. Gonna have to address my lack of long-term solution @ C and 3B though.
  25. Made a huge blockbuster trade today... I probably overpaid but whatever, I picked up the best player in the deal which is always important. Team Name gets: Madison Bumgarner Aramis Ramirez Hoyas gets: Clay Buchholz Mike Wacha Victor Sanchez Clint Coulter Fujimo's 2nd Round MiLB pick I was really trying to unload Buchholz before he regresses. I LOVE Wacha but Madison is 23 and a lock superstar for years to come. I like the other prospects too but I'm not gonna let them get in the way.
