  1. nice trade noah, think that was a steal for you
  2. merry xmas!
  3. great trade for you, ben.
  4. it doesn't bother me too much. for one thing it will keep these guys with crummy teams interested in the league. i know if i traded a bunch of my starters and ended up with a boatload of prospects and 2016/2017 draft picks that i'm gonna play for a few years and see what happens. also, the last batch of new owners did the same thing (more or less) and are pretty competitive now. iirc hard time and fixer upper were like 5 win teams and now they are fairly well positioned.
  5. threatening to quit over kab's delayed pick is just laughably immature. it's february, who cares??? the JBJ thing i can sort of understand but at the end of the day it's JBJ. Nick probably should've just given JBJ back to the original owner, though. not because it's required by the rules or whatever, but because he's the commish and his team is insanely stacked and he dropped him anyway. offering JBJ for draft picks was just rubbing it in, imo. i've been targeting odorizzi for some time and snagged him for Aramis and Robbie Ray which i'm pretty psyched about. it's actually the only trade i made the entire offseason. usually my entire roster turns around this time of year...
  6. agree with kab that you should stay away from those 16 year old intl "superstars in the making" bit the bullet on two of those in first 5 rounds of the inaugural draft - angel villalona and yorman rodroguez. apparantly those "can't misses" miss sometimes after all! people also go crazy over prospects in this league so if you get a college guy who throws a few good games people will trip over themselves giving you their team for him. just last year i think kab and i went back to back puig and wacha and iirc we both got really awesome value. so if you go the intl route it has to be someone who is ML ready like puig, tanaka, etc.
  7. thanks guys. now if only i could win a game in fantasy football....
  8. barring an epic collapse that would be slightly more upsetting than the one 3 years ago, it looks like i have this wrapped up after a super clutch performance by kennedy. mccann also came up huge, so hat tip to kab for his part in that. will probably look to get younger again this year and move guys like cano latos kennedy gardner and jannsen, so start thinking up offers!
  9. survived billy buck's two-starter overload week and now i'll just look to hold on for dear life as my pitchers are dropping like flies and the ones who are healthy are turning into pumpkins.
  10. so axelrod throwing 1 pitch and getting hurt was the worst possible outcome.
  11. was REALLY pulling for Jake's Bravo's because 86ers has a ton of 2-start pitchers in the next two weeks. i've burned through all of my 2-start pitchers which has resulted in me picking up dylan axlerod and hoping for the best.
  12. pulled a kab and was out of the country with limited access to the internet over the last couple weeks. was pleasantly surprised each night i was able to check in and was never completely comfortable until sale exited the game on sunday afternoon (i fully expected a no hitter or something crazy). but yeah, things are going pretty well in team name world right now. hopefully i don't peak too soon like i did a few years back. what's better is that DEM and TR got upset so my road to the title got that much easier. noah has been cruising through the playoffs too. buchholz looks like the guy i traded away a couple seasons ago so him + pineda makes for a pretty scary rotation. a few months ago my mouse was hovering over the DROP button for shoemaker and i changed to hector santiago at the last second instead. good idea huh
  13. looks like our matchup is gonna go down to the wire, kirk. i have a nice lead but i see you're getting two starts out of norris and sale this week so that should close the gap (especially considering my only two-starters are kennedy and wada). seems like we both got unlucky with pitchers getting leads/wins blown too. your closers were outstanding last week. in other news, i'm obviously devastated that i dropped mike fiers. carried that guy all season long and let one shaky relief outing cloud my judgment. now he's just striking out everyone.
  14. haha thanks and yeah winning the division was probably not the best outcome (though i think i win an extra $25 for it?) considering i would've played jake's bravos had i finished in second place. my team has been crushing the last month so i'll probably put up a stinker when it matters. good luck fending off my barrage of unlimited two-start crappy back-end-of-the-rotation pitchers.
  15. thanks! i think you are way too low on your team. cuddyer should be back before playoffs and if you get through the first round you should have votto too. your SP is good but you don't have a lot of depth to stack 2-start pitchers. good thing about being the #5 seed is that i get to play jake's bravos in round 1 who is probably the worst playoff team. so i'm glad i passed you in the standings for that honor. just gotta hope for the best. i'm gonna have like 10 or 11 SPs (some of which are pretty crummy) come playoff time so there will be two-starts-o-plenty from team name. and nice job flipping montas for norris, that was a steal.
  16. haha you were my next trade offer if kab rejected me. you could probably get a nice haul for kinsler from someone. too bad i already have cano. that brock holt pickup might be the FA pickup of the year btw. good stuff.
  17. thanks for accepting. i actually didn't realize you were platooning the two. i'm sad to see montas go since basically all of my SP prospects besides Nelson took enormous steps backwards this season but at the end of the day i can't play without a catcher. i offered parkers crew a king's ransom for lucroy and he turned it down. also offered hard times a very good deal for Yan Gomes (his UTIL) and was rebuffed. these guys will never be able to rebuild with that mentality.
  18. I don't have a second round MiLB pick and avila sucks anyway
  19. my offense has been much better than i expected after trading away mccutcheon. i have the highest scoring offense by a decent margin, though i'm really hurting at catcher. my rotation is decent enough i guess. i think i have a good team but there's like 5 or 6 teams that are equally matched so winning the championship will kinda be a crap shoot. it's nice to see some of the historically bad teams turning things around too.
  20. Nick is impossible to deal with. Only people I've had a tougher time with has been Jim (Billy Buck) and Tim (25 Alive). I really regret trading Street now. My 2nd RP slot has been a nightmare.
  21. had an easy schedule this past week but only managed to go 1-3 because my rotation completely crapped the bed. i only have 5 SPs so there's not much i can go in terms of playing matchups. really hoping latos and/or billingsley can come back and give me some productive innings. all of my offseason moves have worked out gloriously thus far. -sabathia is out until july and ray and nelson have been exceptional thus far -arenado has emerged as an elite 3B option though street has been fantastic as well. i really miss having 2 closers and it seems like my opponents' closers always manage to drop 30 points on me. -freeman and brantley for prince and semien has been a complete steal -hamilton has been productive enough where i'm happy to take the 10 years he has on rios -mccutcheon still a big loss though teheran has been remarkable and i can't imagine where i'd be without him given my pitching woes. folty, escobar and martin haven't been anything special though so this one if probably pretty neutral
  22. had a down week but lucked out with scheduling so i should crawl to 2-2. really wish i snagged dee gordon off of bee in the preseason. what a steal that guy has been.
  23. bump to see how everyone's season is going (beyond what i can see in the standings) i'm trying to get through injuries to latos, chacin and janssen. replacements have been pretty solid so far. really glad i made that move for ian kennedy right before the season started, otherwise i'd be in rough shape with respect to my rotation. freeman has been a beast and fielder has been a bust, so that makes me feel good. brantly has been awesome too, so that trade has been a huge boon for me. cano has been disappointing. traded rios for billy hamilton in part to get younger but also because i was very high on hamilton. he's been very hit or miss but mostly miss. it's tough to sit him because when he manages to get on base he ends up with 10 points but that's only happened 2 or 3 games so far haha
  24. The problem with trying to compete now (and partially the reason why I've started my rebuilding a bit earlier) is that DEM Grinders, Transparent Radiation, Billy Buck and the Shining have completely unloaded their prospects in order to win now. Their teams almost look like they belong in 10-team leagues.
  25. with my first post outside of the fantasy baseball thread, i will wholeheartedly recommend you do not go to law school, and this is coming from someone who graduated from a top-tier school and has a top-tier job. you can email me if you want to discuss specifics
