  1. I concur. Nobody wants to start a negotiation by saying "we want to sell this guy, so what will you offer us?"
  2. Well, there goes Scotty's "quality start." Maybe they should change the stat just for the Twins - make it 5 innings instead of 6.
  3. Man, when it goes bad, it goes bad quickly!
  4. I know this is a bit premature, and it assume the absence of a Twins-typical 6th inning meltdown by a starter, but do you think we can get 7 full from Diamond today?
  5. I don't know how accurate the pitchtrak on Gameday is, but each of those first 3 balls to Dunn looked to be in the zone - and all were called balls. No low strikes today?
  6. How big is that caught stealing now?
  7. That's OK. Add a little cheese, a little butter, it should cook up just fine.
  8. I hope Morneau isn't letting himself get distracted (lack of HRs, no contract talks, etc).
  9. OK, I'm following gameday remotely. Was that a good throw, or a poor decision to send Doumit home (or both)?
  10. Except for the first 2 weeks or so it won't matter. Off days, rotation adjustments, etc. will mix the schedules up so that their #1 won't face our #1 any more than he would our #2, #3, etc.
  11. Even the blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while.
  12. Good point - and good to see. I still say it's going to take a couple more years of consistent performance before he can be mentioned in the same breath as Nathan.
  13. Nice. 3 up, 3 down. Let's see if Diamond can keep that going. I always get a little nervous when he's pitching. Or Pelfrey. Or Deduno. Or anybody else they put out there.
  14. Per Seth, according to FO it's coming. Soon.
  15. My guess is it comes down to what is offered. Trading away both Span and Revere show that they'll pull the trigger if they think what they are getting in return justifies it (of course, we can always debate whether it was a good trade or not afterward).
  16. Of course, Appel may have never been in the discussion because his contract demands may not have been realistic. It sounds like he really did want to go to Houston - and he got his wish.
  17. Thanks, Seth. I did a little more research, and found that of the 10 teams in the Appy league, 6 are affiliated with organizations that have short-season A teams, to which they would probably send their best players not in full-season leagues. Two others have two rookie teams (KC,CWS). Only Elizabethton (MIN) and Danville (ATL) are alone at the top of their respective short-season pyramids. It does cause me to wonder if the regular success of Elizabethton (they haven't had a losing season since 1988, and they have finished above .600 ever since 2004) is because our "first team" short season players are facing the "second team" short seasons players of most of the other franchises. Of course, at this level, does it really matter?
  18. One thing I have always wondered is how Elizabethton compares to other Appy League teams as to their place in each organization's pyramid. All the full-season leagues are pretty standard - everybody has a Triple-AAA, a Double-AA, and high-A and a low-A team. Below that it varies greatly from organization to organization. Many have a short-season A team, which is above the rookie level. Some have two rookie level teams, and then there are the complex-based teams (GCL,AZL) as well. For Minnesota, Elizabethton (Appy league) is at the top of the short-season pyramid, but are some other franchises sending their appy league affiliates the second or third string players? For example, Kansas City has two rookie league teams, one in the Appy league and one in the Pioneer league (I'll be watching them tonight - season opener!). Their top draft choice is coming here, to Idaho Falls - not Burlington. Anybody else have any comments to add about this. Just curious.
  19. Perkins is good, but not yet at Nathan's level. For a closer, the only stat that really matters is save%. When Nathan was with the Twins, and throwing out the post-TJ year, he converted 90% of save opportunities. Perkins has only converted 80%, although he is trending upward and is at 90% for this year. We need a couple more years of solid results before he can be seen as being at Nathan's level in his prime. He may get there; just not quite yet.
  20. I'm losing most of my confidence in Duensing, but I second your thought on Thielbar.
  21. Meanwhile, in the dugout, Gardy is wondering if he's been timewarped back to 2012.
