  1. It is so nice to see the D help the pitcher instead of hinder.
  2. My father's philosophy of life .... if you aren't 15 minutes early, you're late. It was a philosophy he inherited from his father but not all of his brothers subscribed. Grandpa to Uncle Charlie: "We eat at noon. If you and your family aren't here, we eat without you."
  3. I have long been rooting for Aaron Hicks. This move makes sense to me if the Twins committed to a plan for Hicks before the season started and are sticking to it. Hicks has done well at AAA but perhaps they wanted him to get "X" number of AB's and he isn't near "X" yet. Even before this, people on these forums were not in agreement about the appropriate time to call him up. After the way he has been handled the last couple of years, maybe management is just being conservative and giving him the greatest opportunity to succeed in AAA and then later in the majors. We'll see how he responds.
  4. While I think part of the plan is to continue rebuilding, I think the other part is to put butts in the seats for most of the summer. It's a balancing act and the last week or so must be a great relief.
  5. You apparently believe in VERY small sample sizes. Almost every pitcher has a bad outing on occasion. I'll be interested in his next start.

  9. I think Molitor is getting his feet under him and starting to feel more confident in his choices. That may be why we are seeing some of the younger players. He also seems pretty dedicated to getting everybody in there from time to time.
  10. If you told me the Twins would be 10-12 at the end of April, I would have been relatively satisfied given all the games in the division. The journey has been a bit of a roller coaster starting in a deep valley and making an uphill climb. And there have been some real learning experiences -- I hope we are seeing the Twins take advantage of them. It was nice to see them come back strong from a very disappointing loss to the Tigers on Wednesday. The other thing that strikes me is that if some things fall apart, there are actually some decent options this year. If something happens with one of the starters, I feel pretty good about bringing up Milone instead of having to search the Rochester roster. Rosario and Hicks have started off well enough that one or both of them could be on the ML roster in the near future. Plus Buxton is looking good at AA but I think they'll be cautious on how fast they bring him up. And there are a few options out there for the BP, too. Overall, the Twins are making it interesting to watch. I didn't think Cleveland and Chicago would be as lousy as they've been so it is nice to take advantage of them now before they get it together.
  11. And now it won't let me edit to change it to a P. Sorry, everyone, that was entirely unintentional. I'd like to blame it on my (still healing) arm but I'm actually typing pretty well these days. Aargh.... help me out, moderator.
  12. Remember that CR is still A level ball. There are stops above them where Minor Leaguers presumably work on and improve their bitches and location. The CR affiliation has been nice for keeping rehabbing players in the midwest. Thanks for the perspective, Matt. I enjoy your thoughts and your writing style.
  13. My prediction for this series. Twins go 3 for 4 ending the weekend at 12-13. Not quite able to get over that .500 hump.
  14. Well, Phil Hughes may have provided a temporary solution to this dilemma by straining his hip flexor tendon today.
  15. LOL, I thought about that, Seth. But you are the one who is a stickler for spelling names right so I thought you'd want us praising the right one.
  16. "Good" is a relative term. Compared to the last few years, they do have some pitchers who are doing well. None of this is ideal but I can hear the cries had the Twins planned on only 5 starters with little in reserve. I'd much rather have them have the current problem.
  17. I'd like to request that people more carefully use D. Hicks or A. Hicks since they are both in the minors. -- especially in thread titles but also occasionally when people are just posting in one thread or another. It sometimes gets confusing. I know there are a few other duplicate names but for some reason this is the one that always gets me -- perhaps because they are both doing reasonably well this season. Thanks.
  18. After the last few years of taking whomever was available at AAA, this is ridiculous. Having a little "extra" in reserve (more before than Santana debacle) is a good thing. A logistical problem, perhaps but far better than the alternatives we saw last few years. Or has the cliche, "you can never have too much good ptiching" gone by the wayside?
  19. It is nice to have this problem -- maybe they can select among pitchers who are doing well instead of having to take whatever dregs are available.
  20. Pelfrey has been a joy to watch the last 2 games. There is a crispness to his pitching and he is maintaining a good pace. (So good that the games have just flown by). Given his pre-Twins record, I think you give him a chance to continue it. I'd probably send Nolasco or Milone to the pen but then I've yet to see anything good from Nolasco in a Twins uniform so its hard to want him in the rotation.
  21. The Twins will view themselves as a contender until after the All Star break.
  22. We'll get 'em tomorrow night!
