  1. Now, Cliff Lee also off the trade block too!!! http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/07/phillies-wont-trade-cliff-lee.html
  2. Looks like TR's commodity just got a little more exclusive. MLB Trade Rumors is reporting Garza is off the market. While the Rangers or Nats will get Greinke, the Twins should be able to get a little more for the dwindling pitching ranks available for trade. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/07/matt-garza-likely-staying-put.html
  3. Braves have given up on Dempster. Would they offer Delgado or Jurrjens type back for Liriano. They still have Teheran waiting in the wings, and I know we can't get him, but maybe one of the others.
  4. With the Rays looking to dump Bj Upton, could They be in market for Span. Looks like TB holds club options for Shields for $9 million for 2013 and $12 million for 2014. I'v seen fom sources that Their RH starters could be available.
  5. For the minimum, give it a try. Rather see him than Deduno throwing 100 pitches in 4 innings
  6. The Yankees wish they had our depth now.
  7. The Twins got draft picks for them. I think we are better off with Willingham and Revere and this gives some salary flexibility for pitching. I think letting them go was the correct move
  8. I say no. Baker's club option is for $9.25 million. Coming off of surgery, he probably won't be that effective ( see Joe Nathan) and will probably bolt anyways (again see Joe Nathan). Use the money elsewhere and let the kids start or spend money on other starters. While our starting staff is thin, I dont want see to Blackburn or Baker starting again next year. Agree or disagree?
  9. The FA class for starters is putrid this year. Joe Saunders,Edwin Jackson and Anibel Sanchez, so Hamels will make a killing. Still think Greinke will end up in mid market, like St. Louis unless TR can get him here.
  10. Jones pitched his third straight scoreless outing to start his career on Friday, striking out two. That gives Jones 5k's in three innings of work for the season.
  11. So who's starting next year, because we don't have the trade chips to get someone under team control. Diamond Baker (iffy off surgery?) Gibson FA? FA? Walters De Vries I don't think we should give up on 2013 also
  12. Didnt Ladendorf get us Cabrera from the A's
  13. I've aeen comments repeated in different places that think Greinke wouldn't do well in say, NY. Obviously, we'd need to sign before a trade. Finally, the Brewers would get two major league ready players (at least one) at an affordable price at positions of need. A trade with an extension, would be the easiest way to get a top line starter. the pressure on the Brewers will mount, they don't want to get stuck the way the Twins did with Johan. The Brewers would know what they're getting instead of finding out if they get the Frank Viola return or a Johan Santana return. we cannot get better without better starters and the starters are not in the minors. I don't like our chances on the open market as I think St. Louis would be a great fit also. Lots of people hate this I see, but Span isn't going to get us a good starter under team control for a while, (Zimmerman) and Joe Saunders or Edwin Jackson dont do it for me. I think it also shows the fans we are serious about getting better. Anyways, if you disagree, who and how are we going to get for starters next year?
  14. Looks like the Brewers will not be signing Greinke long term. I am of the opinion that Greinke would not do well in a big market. Instead of minor league prospects, could the Twins offer up Span and Parmalee in a package for Greinke? Span is very affordable and Milwaukee needs to replace Prince. Obviously, we can only do this if we can sign Greinke to a long term deal. Are teams still allowed to negotiate an extension before a trade?
  15. Great deal, $3.5 million barely buys you any competent player who could be a free agent. It gives us lots of flexibility and doesn't harm our ability to get a competent SP or two.
  16. Finally beating the rain, Pat Dean took to the hill trying to stop a mini skid, which he did. Dean (6-4) pitched 6 solid innings giving up 1ER and 4 hits while walking 2 and striking out two batters in a 6-2victory over the Tampa Yankees. Dean lowered his ERA to 3.59 for the season.
  17. Zach Jones pitched one inning of relief today for the E'Twins and walked one and struck out won as the E'Twins cruised to an easy victory. That'a two scoreless innings of relief to start his pro career.
  18. Pat Dean picked up the win last night again St. Lucie thanks to his offense. Dean pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 5 ER and 9 hits to raise his record to 5-4 with an ERA of 3.74. Dean's last couple of outings have been less than stellar, although I expect a promotion sometime during the year.
  19. The Twins used Their 2012 4th round pick on RH reliever Zack Jones from San Jose State. Jones throws his fastball in the mid 90s and has a slider. Scouts project the 21 year old prospect as a major league reliever. Jones owned an impressive 3.5 to 1 K to BB ratio this season at SJSU. Jones will start the season at Elizabethton and he made his pro debut last night, giving up 1 hit and striking out two in the E'Twins win over Danville.
  20. No Pat Dean? Let's move him up and see if we have anything with him
  21. I hear lots of griping about the lack of starters. I think Terry Ryan has put a more professional team on the field with smart moves. Sure they won't win the central, but I believe TR will assemble more pitchers in the offseason. Even other writers think so http://www.denverpost.com/kiszla/ci_20886798/mark-kiszla-jeremy-guthries-era-more-proof-rockies?refresh=no

  23. As hot as Dean was in May, June has been disappointing. Dean took the loss Thursday by giving up 5 ER and 7 hits in 5.3 innings, Dean dropped to 4-4 with a 3.43 ERA. Dean needs to steady itself to get his AA promotion.
  24. .... And who was the prize of the deal? DAVID WEST! Even Jack Savage and Tim Drummond pitched for the Twins. How often have all five players actually made the majors
