  1. I'd say Thomas is quite a bit better than Plouffe. I haven't seen him much, but he couldn't be too much worse in right field. And, come on, Revere is 23, there's no reason he should have to fight to get 2 starts a week at the major league level. You'll see him soon enough, what's your rush? Grabbing Thomas, assuming he as advertised, was a really smart move, the Twins needed a good-defense 4th outfielder.
  2. Also, what kind of player do you feel most comfortable with the Twins developing? Personally, I see no evidence that the Twins could transform Appell or Zimmer into aces. But I would trust them Byron Buxton given their track record with developing even less-touted outfielders in Hunter, Span and Revere. As for my pick, Zunino, I don't think they could screw him up, just get the kid to the majors.
  3. In response to the post with the college vs. high school WAR stats: Baseball Prospectus did a piece, maybe a year ago or so, that showed that the gap between high school and college picks is narrowing, even to the point where high schoolers may now be a relative bargain. I remember one thing they attributed this too was better scouting and more information on these kids. I could find the link, but it's probably behind the paywall anyway.
  4. You're right, he didn't get surgery. But it was his UCL, so that's kind of scary.
  5. Absolutely! Just 3 years ago he was a 5-star prospect as rated by Baseball Prospectus, I think he'd be a great pickup.
  6. Ahh cool, thanks for the info!
  7. Watching the condensed game on MLBtv and I noticed that some of the Rangers hitters were folding their hands after hits, what is going on here? Mystery!
  8. Nice, the Twins could definitely use some outfield defense help.
  9. Does anybody know how Clete's defense is? Does he fit best in RF? I see he's not much of a hitter...
  10. It's pretty refreshing to see a manager use somebody other than the closer in a "save situation, even though it's not that close".
  11. Lol, just threw a random number out there.
  12. I wonder what Mauer and Morneau's batting averages are with men on base this year, besides the homers, I feel like it's pretty bad. Especially Morneau, didn't he leave like 7 men on base last night!?
  13. I'm totally with you that OBP is a more important stat, but .331 is league average, not exactly stellar. If he's going to be considered a great leadoff hitter he has to be at least .365.
  14. The Wire is unparalleled. So damn good.
  15. 'Healthy' Span also hit .264 in 2010, it's not exactly a given that he'd hit if healthy. I'm as impressed with him as anyone else on the roster.
  16. Stringer, great handle or whatever it's called.
  17. I was just talking to a buddy about this today, he really is looking as good as he ever as. Really driving the ball
  18. Indeed, but I'll take ground balls all day over these deep flys.
  19. On the bright side, the Rangers have hit some balls pretty deep into the outfield that have been caught. I can't tell if Swarzak is pitching to contact and being efficient, or the Rangers are just uber-aggressive and are jumping on his pitches.
  20. The grounders are finding the gaps, I guess that's what happens with the infield they put out there.
  21. Swarzak = Efficiency
  22. ^ #SCOUT I like Zunino!
  23. Ah, I didn't see that last start. Still, don't you think the Twins see him as more of a long-man? The fact that Hendriks is still on the roster must say something about how much they want him in the rotation.
  24. I have a really hard time believing the Twins would view Swarzak as their best starter even if he threw a great game. They spent Spring Training getting him ready for the 'pen and I'd bet he'll find himself there as soon as necessary.
