  1. We gotta stop this winning crap. 2013 #1 pick overall. I want that pick!!!
  2. Same here... He's Ike Sr.
  3. I realize it's not a cut and dried decision. I also like the National league style as well. Managers have some extra thoughts to consider. Recent hitting aside. You have a team that has scuffled for runs all year. 2 run lead and sacks full with one out which is a higher percentage run scoring opp as opposed to two outs. At the time... You need that run. Pitches are walking strikeouts, pop ups and DP's. 80 pitches on the pitch count. Diamond would not get to the 7th regardless. Do you risk the high percentage run chance for one more inning from a rookie pitcher. No matter how sharp he has been. I don't... But that's me. I applied for the Twins Manager job and didn't get a call back. Can you believe that...
  4. 9th inning RP on the mound... Bases juiced... . Brings back memories of Ike Davis's Dad.
  5. Gallardo is inconsistent and we are hot. We could have some sweep mo going into Greinke.
  6. I agree but... 4 Brewer errors will make an offense look real good. You can't give up extra outs. The Brewers were very kind to us. Bad defense and the team packs it in. The pitching... The hitting... Everything and they wait for a new game tomorrow. It's Brewer go thru the motions time. Nice winning streak for the Twins tho and we did it without the Butera hot bat.
  7. Plouffes body language is just horrible. He looks like he's dying inside.
  8. OK... I Would pulled him. I think Gardy looked away for a second... Looked back and said... "alright let's step up here. Swing the heck outta that thing... Bases loaded go get him... (pause)... What's Diamond doing up there. Scotty what's Diamond doing at the plate. Shoot.. It's a national league game. You gotta get me ready for that... Alright let him pitch a third of an inning more and we will bring in Swarzy".
  9. Anyone know where his pitch count was at the time?
  10. LOL I didn't have the heart to mention he isn't Swarzak.
  11. To me it signals either. A. Over confidence is Diamond. B. Under confidence in Bullpen. c. Gardy was distracted by an amusing antidote told by Andy. d. Irrentioanal fear that is somehow leaves us a catcher short and loss of the DH spot in a national league park.
  12. Why was Diamond batting with sacks full and one out?
  13. If Drew Butera continues to hit. I will eat my crow with a knife and fork. However I will use my spoon to scoop out my eyeballs because I will have seen it all and there will be no need to see no more. Ive been an advocate for playing different players to find the hot hitter and rest the cold ones. I never dreamed that Drew Butera could be an example of what I've been advocating. Drew Butera hitting .350... I can't believe I'm saying this. Play him until he cools off.
  14. Willingham was never unwilling. He mentioned that RF would be a new experience... That's all. He was prepping for it. I don't recall any Ben in LF concerns coming out of spring training. It all changed when Justin became a DH. That was Doumits spot. Doumit moved to RF as a result because Doumit said he was not comfortable at all playing 1B. Willingham then moved back to his LF spot. Parmelee had a good spring and he became the surprise 1B and All the shuffling piled up on Ben and he became the 4th outfielder. It all changed the last week of spring and was a chain reaction. I can be as wrong as the next guy but I liked the original lineup pre spring training and think we would have been better off in the offense and defense department. Span CF Carroll SS Mauer C Morneau 1B Willingham RF Doumit DH Velencia 3B Casilla 2B Revere LF
  15. Sometimes you gotta force them in. You could end up waiting until August for proper comedic context. By August the mood on this site could be a tough crowd. Just to let you know... I appreciate "Unwillingham" and give you full credit. Ive been waiting for the chance to call him Accomodating-Bacon for the humor and the chance just hasn't arrived. When it does... Its going to magical.
  16. I didn't say... That you said... I think our difference in opinion stems from what is a great hitter. Compare him to Hamilton and he is not a great hitter. Compare him to Mario Mendoza and Ben is a great hitter. The Guy makes contact and consistently puts the ball in play... As long as they are not fly balls... This is good and it makes him a great hitter in a different type of way. Holding his lack of XBH against him is like looking at a rabbit and saying its not an Armadillo. You wouldn't ask Morneau to become a stolen base threat. I'm a Ben fan and I'd like him in this lineup right now. I would not start him over Josh Hamilton or Jay Bruce or Shin Soo Choo. We just don't have any spare Hamilton's and Bruce's around at the moment. Travis, twinsnorth and I just come from a different baseball planet. We don't worry about 30 singles out of 31 in AAA. We'd like to see him improve the plate discipline and work some more walks and add bunt singles to his game. Get his OBP up anyway he can and I think he will. Ben just needs to keep running into walls making plays, Make the pitcher think about him on base and deliver fastballs to the two hitter because of the base threat he is and just reach the cutoff man without incident. If you ever come to visit our planet. twinsnorth will give you a Labatt's.
  17. My Planet for one. Travis and I live on this planet with a quite a few others. It's a nice place and we live here happily... I'd invite you to come over but we don't allow any advance metrics on this planet... We prefer to watch the games. We like Ben because he doesn't strike out much... He puts the ball in play and he has unreal speed that can turn singles into doubles and has hit over .300 at every level(yeah majors I know... in due time). He's simply puts pressure on the defense in a different fashion and if you ever played SS against a slappy burner it isn't hard to understand the value of his offensive game. There is more to batting than just hitting and more to hitting than quoting BABIP and OPS or OPS+. lol... This post was typed with a smile and a good mood. Go Ben!!!
  18. What? Revere was sent down for the purpose of playing time and he had options left. Thomas and Komatsu were waiver claims. When they get sent down they have to go through waivers and sending them down risks losing them. I don't think hatred is part of the equation. I actually sense that the Twins brass is rather fond of Ben. Some posters on this site seem to dislike Ben a little tho. Are you sure that Span is refusing to budge? Or been asked to budge at all? I think Gardy likes him consistently in CF.
  19. I think we actually agree while you disagree with me. I don't expect the Twins to dive into the free agent pool to sign 20 Million plus players. As a matter of fact, I'm concerned that the results of Mauer and Morneau since signing the big deals will lead to once bitten twice shy. My point was that the Twins were never the organization to pay contracts like Mauer recieved. I've been through Calvin Griffith and the Metrodome era. When a player reached FA... The majority were gone... We didn't spend. We were almost a farm system for the big boys. When they signed Mauer to the big contract... it signaled to me... A reason to hope that our Superstars are retainable. That's why I see the Mauer signing as a positive overall regardless if the signing itself has turned out negative. I think the team will spend again when just a few holes need to be filled. I think the team will not spend when the holes are many. I think they will pick their spots. It may be my pipe dream and management may not share my view. I think we are about to head down a dark tunnel of low money contracts and youth and I think that is exactly the tunnel needed to be traveled.
  20. The Mariners are going through the rebuilding thing and in my opinion are on target. They traded Pineda for Montero because it looks like they will have three potential 1 or 2's currently in AA arriving in Seattle about the same time. Walker, Hultzen and Paxton will join King Felix who is signed through 2014 in a young talented rotation. Who will man the 5th spot is being competed for right now. They will look to make any deal possible to improve the offense at this point to coincide with the arrival of the big Three... Hence the Trade for Montero. However, I doubt that they will part with any of the young pitching since their rebuilding plans seemingly revolve around these 3 arms. The Twins have to get to where the Seattle Mariners are right now before they can start to get better in my opinion. Find a trading partner to move Span for a potential frontline starter. Forget about getting a current frontline starter. It won't happen unless the guy is a head case. The Twins need to start stockpiling arms and the scary thing is that the current stockpile is unstocked.
  21. Reading the Mauer thread and the claims of Jokin that the Joe Mauer contract has paralyzed the organization. I offer a different opinion that calls for a different thread. On Joe Mauer... Yes he appears to be falling short of the 23 million dollar yearly value of the contract. However, I look at it in a positive light. To me his contract signifies the willingness to actually spend large money on large players. That was and is a new club in the Twins Bag and in the future can come into play again when the time is right. The time just may not be... RIGHT NOW!!! Yeah it's negative that Joe is taking up 23 million of the payroll for the production and health we have received but it's an overall positive that the money was spent. I think this organization is in a hole because of failure to keep a decent farm system supply line. Specifically MLB ready pitching. So... How did they get in this hole?
  22. The Twins are not paralyzed by Joe's contract. They were punched in the head by it. The value of the contract is pretty much set by what other people would pay. Coming off 2009 others would have paid. Its a perfect storm... The state of Minnesota just built a brand new stadium for the Pohlads to pull revenue from. Hometown hero has a year for the ages and looked like he became what the scouts projected he could be. A hitter with power. Another year like that in 2010... The wolves would be knocking at the door promising Joe and Shapiro all kinds of things not just tempting our boy away but ripping him from our arms like an F5 tornado. The Twins promised Minnesotans that they would INVEST... Letting hometown guy walk after year one would be a PR nightmare. Extension a month before the doors opened to Target Field was a conclusion that both Einstein and Lennie Small and most everyone in between would have come to. Signing Mauer just before the turnstiles turn is BIG MO. I blame Bill Smith for a lot of things... Or at least blame Bill Smith and the people surrounding Bill Smith for the current state of the franchise. They made a boatload of mistakes. The Joe Mauer contract is not something I blame them for. It was a punch in the head... Not a broken spine. "The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry". Allow me to quote Mike Tyson who said. "everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth". Some of the truest words ever spoken. As Twins fans we get to see what happens with the plan now. I hope to God that Jason Marquis was not the plan.
  23. Frenchy made his third Red Wing start and suffered a tinge of wildness, out of character for a control pitcher like himself. His line reads 5IP... 4 runs on 6 hits, a couple of free passes and he was charged with 3 wild pitches including a wild pitch strikeout with two outs and a runner on third that plated a run for Louisville. Left handed Louisville Bats RF Bill Rhinehart took lefty Luke French deep in the 4th inning. Back to Back Doubles in the third and a pair of Walks and a wild pitch in the 5th were the primary blemishes on what was another LUKE warm performance. His ERA now sits at 6.75. Rocheter did manage to come back and win the game scoring two runs in the 8th for a 5 4 victory. Sean Burroughs now hitting .360 drove in the game winner with a double.
  24. Gardy gets the same newsletters that all the other managers get... Right? Those newsletters professionally prepared that contain hitting charts, tendencies, hot and cold zones. Numerous percentage breakouts and breakdowns. Comparisons, batter vs pitcher, left right splits, day night splits, home away etc... Historical data, scouting reports and projections. Is it possible the info is password protected and Gardy forgot the password. If Gardy is getting this info like he should be getting. Can you imagine what data is in these reports leading to 5 starts in less than two weeks for a third catcher. I believe he has started at catcher more then the other two. By definition this makes Butera the #1.
  25. Drew Butera is special... Not many players can turn an American league team into a National league team. Drew does this by negating the DH position by his presence in the lineup. We should all marvel at this powerful ability. I just want to point out that he made his 5th start of the season tonight. Luke Hughes had 10 at bats. Luke Hughes wasn't Robinson Cano but I want to point out that Butera made his 5th start tonight and compare that with Lukes 10 at bats and being shown the door. Did I mention 11 games up and 5 starts. I often have no point but often feel like typing anyway.
