  1. Jason Wheeler has improved to 6-1 this year after Sunday's game against the Kane County Cougars. He put in 8 innings and 5 hits, including his first home run given up this year, his ERA stands at 2.75. He struck out 5 and walked just 1. His WHIP is dropping and sits at 1.20 currently and he is still getting a good amount of flyballs. Seth Stohs in his updated prospect list now has Jason at number 30 on the list, ahead of his rotation mates Tim Shibuya and Steven Gruber. Jason is making a run at a spot on the MWL All-Star Team, which would be great for him. Unless he is in Fort Meyers at the time pitching for the Miracle. Either way it is all positive right now for the big guy.
  2. Everyone thinks Carew with these uni's, if you want to go good players in here I think Bobby Darwin or the late great Lyman Bostock. That unfortunatly is top end. I think Bombo Rivera, Danny Ford, Bob "Goron" Goronski and the the Glove that went Clank in the night, Twins version, Willie Norwood. These were the players of the baby blues.
  3. Ugh....hated those Softball uni's. But then again considering how bad the teams were during that period it might work. Break these out every time the franchise is going to be in a 5 to 10 year funk. It would be a good visual clue for us as fans as to the mind frame of the powers that be. Unfortuantly the team will not be as fun as the personality of the teams that put those things on every day. No Disco Danny Ford in this group.
  4. Rhodes looked lost at the plate, but when he connected the ball did go a long ways. He well benefit from time in EST and in the lower rungs for a bit more. He is a bit of longer term project, but the upside is intriguing. Now with Sano slumping as young players are wont to do, anyone ready to promote him to the Majors now, Roberts will be a welcome addition to the offensive I hope.
  5. Ho Hum-Another night and another Quality Start for Jason Wheeler. 7 innings pitched, 2 runs, 5 K's (All swinging), one walk and 8 hits and another runner picked off. Wheeler now has pitched 51 innings, struck out 36,walked 10, 55 hits, 0 homeruns, 2.82 ERA, 1.27 WHIP. Lefties are hitting .275 off of him in a small sample size, while righties are geting 70% more at bats against him with a .277 avearge. Wheeler has a 1.47 GO/AO rate overall. The guy does get a lot of ground balls. Almost June in Beloit and Wheeler is 5-1, in the top ten for the league in wins and innings. Top 20 in ERA. Snappers are currently in 2nd place, 1 game behind the hated Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Next up for Mr. Wheeler will be a game in Kane County against the Cougars. My family is trying to decide between a day at a Waterpark in the Dells or heading to Kane County. If I leave it up to the kids my guess is it will be the waterpark. 88 degrees and humidity, a waterpark sounds about right actually.
  6. Back on track. Jason Wheeler rebounded from his bad first inning on Friday the 18th by only giving up 3 runs in his next 11 innings. His last start on Wednesday had another 1st inning hiccup, a couple of hits and a run, but then he settled in again giving up another run a couple of innings later but striking out 5 (4 swinging), walking Zero, allowing 5 more hits and chucking one wild pitch. His control looks pretty good and he is getting some swings and misses which is encouraging from a system persepective. Nice to see him missing some bats. His ERA sits at 2.86 for the season with 31 strike outs and only 9 walks in 44 innings.. The hits are starting to pile up a bit the last couple of games, with 9 and 7 respectively in both of them. He has yet to give up a long ball, but he has been hurt by some stinging doubles and a triple followed by line drive singles. That he has not compounded these by putting guys on base by walks is a real positive sign, and he has been regularly working into the 6th inning. Overall he continues to be one os the stalwarts of a very good Snappers rotation which, though Sano and Rosario get the press, is reason number one that the Snappers lead the division. Good Pitching solves a lot of problems.
  7. Lost the feed. Ah the fun of local small market radio. Someone probably pulled a cord out somewhere. Feel sorry for the Announcers who still maybe talking up a storm.
  8. Nice start by Summers, he sits down and in comes Corey Williams. Summers line 6IP-2 ER-3 K-1 BB and 4 Hits. The announcers said that the walk was the 1st walk of the series, short two gamer, given up by Snappers pitching. They also said that the River Bandits have maybe the best offense in the League and if on queue Williams is greeted with a 2 out homer.
  9. 11 outs in a row for Summers.
  10. 7-2 Snappers as Matt Summers has turned in 5 innings so far. Thrown a lot of pitches though.
  11. Sano-Singles in Bryant. Error leads to score. No RBI. Sano takes 2nd on the error on his own. Prada was working on scoring Bryant.
  12. One of Us Kyle Knudson singles. 3 hits in a row. Two catchers on the base paths, speed is not part of this inning for the Snappers at this point. Somewhere Matt LeCroy says "My kind of inning." Double play ball brings a run in.
  13. Goncalves unloads way over the fences at the Pohlmann Field Launching pad. 5-2 Snappers. Matt Koch doubles next at bat.
  14. Sano has been getting quite a bit of action at 3rd and has been steady to quite good according to what I am getting from broadcast. A diving stop and throw to second to just miss getting the lead runner, a play behind the bag with a long throw to first to get the runner which would have been good if the ball had been fair down the left field line, and a easy chopper. So far so good for Sano in the field.
  15. Matt Koch-Power from behind the plate! He hits his 2nd homer in two days, Snappers 4-River Bandits -1
  16. Sano and Rosario go meakly- Sano in a bit of the slump over the last 10 games with a .194 average. 3 Homers and a double in that period. Average is dropping, but it sounds as if the opposing pitchers are not giving him much to hit either and when they make a mistake it goes a long way.
  17. You are welcome Sir.
  18. Wang Wei-Lin drops the hammer as the lead off, sounded like he got all of it. 1-0 Snappers

  20. Thanks as always for the update!
  21. I apologize for the tardiness of this update, but life sometimes gets in the way of baseball. So since we last left young Mr. Wheeler he was the hottest thing going on the Beloit mound, MWL Pitcher of the Week, 4 wins no losses and a 1.91 ERA. Then came the bottom of the 1st last Friday. Five runs, Five hits, one walk and a error on Wang-Wei Lin contributed his worst half inning of the year. Now he settled down after that making it to the 6th inning and only goving up one more run, but the Sanppers could not overcome that deficit and lost 6-2. This was Wheelers first loss of the year and raised his ERA up to 2.84. Now we get to see how he rebounds from what was a tough, tough inning and can he regain that touch he had in April against Quad Cities later this week.
  22. MWM- Come on down to Beloit!. But seriously, he could be very special in a couple of years in the majors. A Ball is a long way from the Majors with most players. He could push that, but you just want to make sure you get it right. This one you don't want to blow up on you.
  23. Jason Wheeler was named Midwest Pitcher of the Week for the Week of April 30th to May 6th. 2 wins in 2 starts, no runs allowed in 12 innings, 11 strike outs and 2 walks and 7 hits.
  24. Here is a scouting report from 2011 that I found on line. http://www.bbprospectreport.com/2011/03/19/jason-wheeler-update
  25. Beloit does do some broadcasting, but it is not a consistent gig.
