  1. Hey, what do you know... a complete game. This was the Twins most COMPLETE game of the season so far. I hope for a few more. I wonder if Ventura will dull his pain with some sifters of Vodka?
  2. That's a nice reward after going 5 for 5.
  3. White Sox... nice. It would be nice to see Span and Revere get on base a few times tonight and run around a bit, cause some chaos.
  4. Yeah, I took a dump in a urinal on this one.
  5. You might be on to something...
  6. No Seth I do not. I think I got a little over excited because his name was being thrown out there too much in a positive manner, whether that being sarcastic or not. I'm happy for him none the less. Be it AAA or MLB, it seems he has had his most successful run as an offensive player this season. I really shot high with the .230 or lower Avg. I had on this thread. His hot start might actually keep his season Avg. above the Mendoza Line. Cherio and back to the drawing board.
  7. ... and I will add that I would be pro Butera being transitioned into being a pitcher as that would mean he would no longer be on the MLB active roster as a position player. Whatever happens after that is anyone's guess. It has worked for some and not worked for others. Sergio Santos is the most recent to come to my mind and it has worked to certain degree. Butera threw at 94mph yesterday vs Santos' usual 97mph... a bit of a difference, but a Butera gave a small sample size.
  8. Seth, I agree with your assessment, and 3B would be worth a try under those guidelines. We need to get his offensive engines running again and the writing is on the wall that being a Catcher is no longer a viable answer. I don't like 1B for Mauer either. If I had my druthers it would be 3B first, RF second, and LF third.
  9. 1. Drew Butera will not hit .360 this year if he has another Plate Appearance. If he has another 100 PA's he will bat .230 or less and that is being kind. 2. Although it is fun to speculate. Butera will not become a pitcher, let alone the Twin's Closer. 3. The joke is over. There has been too much Butera boosting. Because of this, I am getting the hives, cold sweats, and I cannot keep any food down. Cut me a break... please! 4. I will give the Butera backers this: Butera is a good defensive catcher and calls a decent game, but because he hits like a JV high school baseball player against MLB pitching, he is simply... BUTERABLE!!!
  10. Yuck... and "F' the person who put that out there.
  11. I don't think that anyone on this site has an opinion of whether Jason Marquis is a good or bad person and we all feel the utmost sympathy for his daughter and her recovery. Thank goodness she survived and a lot of us have probably had similar situations impact our lives, be it a son, daughter, brother, sister, etc... The jubilation shown by the TF Daily is based strictly on performance and nothing else. Marquis was not good and a move needed to be made. Marquis is probably disappointed, but I would take a guess that his DFA was handled professionally and with kind words from Terry Ryan. Marquis doesn't have it so bad. He was paid millions of dollars to pitch for the Twins for 1.75 months. Class and Respect? We'll all have to answer that question for ourselves.
  12. ... for old time's sake, that would not shock me.
  13. TFFA, enjoyable article. Like everyone has pretty much said, both players have lived up to their realistic expectations and Dozier's contribution has made me pleased. I am going to quickly focus on Bryce Harper for a minute and it is off the subject of your article and his performance. I feel like Harper is going to have some big trouble for a while. Bryce has prima donna written all over him. He is only 19 and cocky to say the very least. For the last 4 years the media has eaten a mile of his "bleep" to get to him. I would guess that all he knows in life as a mid to late adolescent and young adult is that the world seemingly revolves around him. To me, I can see it in his eyes and demeanor when he gives an interview or quote or whatever. If my hunch is true, this will cause some chemistry failings in the clubhouse to which he belongs and dissension among his teammates while his career is ongoing. PED's aside, he has the smell of being a Barry Bond's type. Great results, 2nd place finishes, and at the end of the day... loathed by the fans and the MLB community. I wish the kid the best, and he is certainly young enough to change his ways, but this is what I have seen since he became a baseball media sensation. Sorry to make this response too long. I really enjoy discussing the whole of baseball, and not being limited to the Twins (not that I don't enjoy discussing the Twins). This was an opportunity. Great Article TFFA!
  14. My fear is that Slama will not be called up this time around and we will all be pleading for this when Marquis Act II takes place. The Twins must really think Slama just absolutely won't cut it in the Bigs. Maybe the Twins can Have a Poor Man's Andy Pettitte un-retirement situation happen for them. Brad Radke misses the game, he is feeling the itch to face competition again. He calls up the Terry Ryan and expresses his desire to return to the bigs. Terry says, Why not, let's do it. Brad says, game on bro and kicks it in full throttle to help the Twins out in this dire season. Heck, I even think Radke is a few months younger than Pettitte. When you wish upon a star....
  15. ... Dusty Baker, the guillotine of pitching arms. Watch out Cueto, Latos, Leake, Bailey, etc., etc., etc.
  16. I read an article in the last year about Knoblauch which did indicate he lived in Texas. Maybe he was in NYC auditioning for Food Network's "Next Food Network Star" program (which would explain the pants). He then was invited out to hit some eateries, pubs, and clubs with Bobby Flay and his wife Stephanie March (of "Law and Order - Special Victims Unit" fame). Those 3 met up with Ice-T, his wife Coco, Marisa Hargitay, and Richard Belzer and proceeded to get smashed. The highlight of the night was when Chuck borrowed a lighter from a bartender to spark up cigar, when Chuck went to throw it back to the bartender, his throw sailed on him and the lighter ended up landing in a crowd of people on the other side of the bar. I guess some things never change.
  17. I've seen this battle before in the last few days. Shane is right. Revere is not a great hitter but can also bring an element of excitement to the offensive side of things with his speed and tireless energy. Revere will not play LF unless Willingham is DH, on the bench, or traded. That's not my decision... that is seemingly the Twins Decision. Komatsu and Mastro...blah, blah, blah. They are for the most part retreads and because this is a mess of a season, I would start Revere in RF over the aforementioned players. Who cares if singles are stretched into doubles and runners score easily on a a single to the OF from 2B. This is the same argument I am using for the Twins to start Plouffe at 3B everyday. Why not? What is the difference? If Revere and Plouffe are answers to the questions of the rebuilding process let's find it out now in the midst of a 90+ loss season instead of trying to figure that out next year. This is the year to make some decisions on players like Revere and Plouffe.
  18. Butera is washed out as a hitter, MLB, AAA, AA and so on. He might have an impressive Avg. in a limited amount of AB's with the big club, but that will change. Just give him the PA's. Butera is a strong armed catcher who calls a good game on the MLB level. Strong Arm? Take advantage of it. If I was Butera, I would understand my Major League Career was fleeting and I would look to keep it going by converting to a pitcher. It's not like it hasn't happened before (good or bad results aside). You cannot teach a 94mph fastball and as an upside he is a strong defensive catcher, which in turn, he is probably an intelligent fellow who might have some savvy and some tricks up his sleeve pitch wise to climb the latter quickly. Who Knows?
  19. Butera aside. Dude, Santos is battling injuries and is not the only power pitching closer to put up garbage numbers. Usually the bad numbers put up by that kind of player are because of an injured arm. One example: Around the 2000ish season I remember Bill Wagner (One of the best closers in MLB history) putting up horrific numbers with the Astros and he eventually was shut down and diagnosed with a UCL tear which required Tommy John surgery. He came back and was electric. Last I checked, although still pretty raw Santos has had some decent stats the last 2 seasons. If he was on this Twins club, he would be our best relief option bar none. As far as Butera goes dude, you are totally literal!
  20. Get while the getting is good.. right Ashbury John?
  21. I wasn't able to watch this game, but I figured Butera's velocity was at least around 92 mph... he has a pretty strong arm as a catcher... you'd think it would translate somewhat to pitching. I have not checked it out, but I wouldn't be surprised if Santos and Butera have comparable hitting stats in MiLB. I am keeping my fingers crossed, we might have found our next closer or #1 set-up guy!
  22. Maybe the Twins are using Drew Butera all wrong and not utilizing him to his greatest ability. Drew Butera, the Hard Throwing Relief Pitcher. If it can happen for Sergio Santos, why not Butera... he has a good arm and as a catcher, that might give him a leg up on his conversion to a pitcher.
  23. I agree with all of those who say no one will get fired during the 2012 season. I think Gardy would resign if firing one of his coaches was a forced scenario. If I was to give an answer based on fiction - I would fire or reassign Liddle, move Ullger the Weird to 3B Coach and pluck Mike Redmond out of the Bluejays Organization and appoint him bench coach. I don't think Gardy has too much left in the tank to deal with this job health wise and I am sure Red Dog was well liked by Ron and he wouldn't mind preparing him to be his successor in a year or 2 or 3. When that managerial switch happens, Gardy will take the T.K. route and become a special assistant to the GM.
  24. These words I will type are not about the Twins, but it is baseball and I imagine no one will mind. I was flipping through the channels yesterday afternoon and came across the Cubs vs. White Sox game as Kerry Wood was being summoned from the Bullpen. I had read earlier in the day that he was going to retire after his next outing, in turn I felt obligated to watch it. It worked out well for Wood as he struck out Dayan Viciedo. He looked liked the Wood of yesteryear and his walk into the retirement sunset was highlighted by the fans and White Sox players' awareness of his retirement resulting with a huge standing ovation which required a curtain call or two. It was a nice baseball moment and they really don't come around as often as one would think. Although some may look at Wood's career as a disappointment because of the immediate impact he made in 1998 and how he never matched his rookie success because of injuries, Wood was indeed a solid Major League Power Pitcher when he was healthy and had a good career. 2nd best K/9 in MLB history behind The Big Unit. That is something to Hang Your Hat On. Congratulations Kerry Wood on a Very Good career. On another note - Twins win 4 in a row? Wow and great!
  25. Thanks Andrew. I appreciate your support and words of wisdom. You are the best of the best and I look forward to your next "Rock Cats" Updates.

    always,

    Bobby

P.S.: Not sure what to make of he Bingingham Mets Thing? It seems sort of suspicious.
