  1. By far my favorite Red Wing , since the Twins became our ML affiliate in 2003. Plenty of prospects have come through here in 17 seasons (Mauer bypassed AAA) , but Justin was always clutch in his time here. In fact, I believe he was part of Terry Ryan’s decision to release David Ortiz. My second favorite? Francisco Liriano . Congrats to Justin, who also does a terrific job as the color man on tv broadcasts.
  2. I applaud the Sano signing! It not only shows confidence from the FO that Miguel will continue to produce and improve, but it shows two-way loyalty . I along with most TD readers thought that he would be gone once FA occurred. In terms of Berrios , I also think the $400K gap is ridiculous and the Twins could have agreed to the higher figure. But I don’t think Berrios is really open to a long-term deal . One of his best friends is Trevor Bauer, who espouses ONE year contracts and has gone on record as never signing a long-term deal AND betting on himself year to year. I think Bauer has Jose’s ear, and the only way he signs a long-term deal With the Twins is that it’s an “overpay “ - something that Falvine does NOT do. Hoping I am wrong. Go Twins!
  3. A Huge Thank You from a thousand miles away to the contributors , moderators and all affiliated with this terrific site! Your coverage of the Twins and all of the Minor leagues is superb and it’s really appreciated here in your AAA city. Not only do I learn about future Red Wings, but who may be the next callup. I literally start and end my day reading Twins Daily, sometimes to the dismay of my GF. Keep up the great work!!
  4. I think that it’s a no- brainer with Arraez as his ability to take pitches, especially to start off the game, will allow everyone to see more pitches before their at-bat. Luis has a great eye, along with his patience. Let the more powerful guys drive some runs in, and let Byron stay in his comfortable 9 hole.
  5. Having watched Nick Gordon for the last two years here in Rochester, I would be most surprised to see him as a viable SS for the Twins. His arm and lack of instincts preclude him from a starting position on a playoff bound team, IMHO. For a few years, Nick was the Twins 4/5 prospect, but now, even after his “bounce back” 2019 year, I think his placement as a 14/15 prospect is quite accurate. Right now from what I have observed (and I have seen the Twins in person many times) , Polanco is a far better shortstop than Nick.
  6. Do you have any sense if the front office is happy with the AAA affiliation being in Rochester? There is only One direct flight (Delta) between the cities daily and across baseball there seems to be a trend towards the affiliates being closer to the major league city. I should add that I believe that the Red Wings are quite happy with the Twins. I know, I am looking forward to Graterol, Larnach, Kiriloff and Lewis in the not so distant future! Also, have you ever visited Frontier Field?
  7. I sincerely hope that a healthy CJ Cron returns, perhaps with a base salary of $5-6 mil with bonuses based on games played, performance etc. to get him up to the. $ 7.5-8 mil figure. In his absence no one compared to his defensive work when healthy. The Twins rotated Sano, Marwin and Adrianza at 1st in his absence and they were all mediocre to say the least, bringing about a sharp decline in fielding prowess , especially on stretches and scooping short throws. In the old days, 1B was for an inferior fielder, but no more. I think that was what was missed most about Mauer in 2019 - his glove at first.
  8. I also believe that the Twins must improve their defense, especially the infield. First Base is a big question mark, as pre-injury Cron was a pretty good player at bat and in the field. So for the author’s design, much of this is predicated on how CJ’s thumb prognosis is. I doubt Kiriloff is an accomplished 1B yet, as he hasn’t played that position much in the minors. After having watched Rooker (his best position is Bat) this season in LF, he isn’t close to Eddie in range or arm. So both of these positions would be downgraded defensively, and that’s not the direction the Twins are hoping to go. I never saw Rooker at First this year in Rochester, as he was usually in LF, DH or injured (half the season). I think for the future, Kiriloff in LF and Rooker at 1B/DH may make more sense. I am hoping we see both Kiriloff and Lewis here in AAA this season.
  9. Great thought provoking article! My immediate thought is that I prefer Cron at 1B over Sano. Miguel’s footwork and ability to grab low throws in the dirt are far inferior to CJ’s. I also maintain that Cron’s bat before the thumb injury was very solid and he was on his way to a 30 HR season. Miguel’s greatest assets are his bat and arm, and I haven’t seen great aptitude at First. I also think that Polanco’s best position is 2B. Which brings us to Arraez , whose best position is also 2B. I believe our infield may be in a status quo until 2021, when perhaps Nelson Cruz ( eventually slows down ) doesn’t return and Royce Lewis is in the mix at SS. It should also be noted that Nick Gordon’s best position is also 2B , and neither Brent Rooker or Zander Wiel are equal to Cron defensively. So, I like the idea of improving the infield defense, just don’t see it happening til 2021, especially since we still have Marwin and Adrianza for 2020.
  10. what section are you in Dave? I don't think his position is SS. It's 2nd base. He probably wasn't a 'leader' but he did make a few very nice plays...along with some nerve wracking errors on routine grounders I know. Based on the way he was coming on in July I was looking for a solid August. Was not to be. Wings had far too many k's in 2019 and Gordon was starting to cut down on his. A good sign. I think he remains valuable 'currency' as they say, in the organization. PS--I don't know how you felt about Skinner, but I am not sad to see him go. I couldn’t agree more about Skinner being let go as the Red Wings manager. He was unenthusiastic and never seemed to argue about questionable ump calls. In terms of this Nick Gordon discussion, I hope he has a great start to 2020 and he’s packaged come trade time . He’s not a hustler and in terms of Twins fans - he’s the anti-Nick Punto. I think next years Red Wings team should be the most entertain years as I expect to see Lewis, Kiriloff and Larnach sooner than later. As an aside, I hated to see Jaylin Davis traded - he was their best player by far this year and they desperately need a RH hitting outfielder. I am in Section 120, between home and the visitors dugout.
  11. Absolutely keep him - assuming the docs check out the surgery. I thought he was a nice addition to the team last year before he got hurt. His defense at first is also far superior to Sano’s.
  12. I also am a season ticket holder at Frontier Field in Rochester - and I concede Nick was much better in 2019 than the previous year. But I never saw him make a spectacular play in the field, and his hands/arm are not SS worthy. He was not a leader on the team and I would have much rather had Jake Cave, Astudillo (when there) , Zander Weil, Thomas Telis , Lamont Wade or even Drew Maggi up in a clutch situation. I see that we don’t agree on his future, but hope that you are right.
  13. I have had the “luxury “ of watching Nick Gordon over the last two seasons in Rochester. I am afraid that he was a wasted #4 pick! He is a mediocre shortstop at best - and rarely ever gets his uni dirty by diving for a hard grounder within reach. His arm is nothing special and is more suited for 2B. I am surprised he grew up in a baseball family as he does NOT have baseball smarts or intuitiveness. Having said that , he was improved in 2019 with the bat, but I view him as a Mlb utility player, at best. He’s no Schoop, Arraez or even Adrianza. If the Twins can get a Mid Teens pitching prospect for him, they would be doing well. I see him packaged this Winter as I doubt he hits close to .300 again.
