  1. They’re doing a helluva job obtaining quality upside depth.,.Gibaut, Waddell and Hamilton all clearing waivers. St. Paul is gonna have a nice little pen this summer. I do agree with the above quote that one more quality reliever/SP would be nice to round things out. Also, being mindful of character issues, Osuna on a Pineda like 2 year deal might be worth considering. ,
  2. I did...well played all who joined. It appears my question was well timed as to who is next off the 40 man with the today’s addition of Ian Hamilton
  3. Yikes had a name copied for work and used that bad error on my part. Wish I had a better excuse.
  4. Love yesterdays activity, and if reports are correct we may not be done. With a full 40 man and assuming we sign a viable #5 or another pen arm, who do you think gets cut off the 40 man? A very quick glance and I would think Marcus Peery, who we scooped on waivers from TB, might be first in line. Thoughts?
  5. MLB Trade Rumors this morning reporting we're still in on him. Sounds like he wants a guarantee but looks promising. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/02/twins-rumors-taijuan-walker-interest.html Depending on the amount, I'd be all over this (even on a guarantee). Ice the offseason cake Falvine!
  6. Scherzer. I’d trade Royce in a minute for him!
  7. I'm going to play a little devils advocate here on Boyd. It seems the majority is in favor of unloading top prospects for him. I personally feel he's peaked. His last 8 starts are as follows: Cle: 6 IP 5 ER 0 BB 8K KC: 7 IP 4 ER 4 BB 10 K CWS: 5.1 IP 4 ER 0 BB 13 K Tex: 7 IP 4 ER 1 BB 11K Cle: 6 IP 5 ER 2 BB 6K KC: 4 IP 4ER 2BB 6K MN: 7IP 3ER 0BB 8K ATL: 5IP 3 ER 0BB 9K The K/BB ratio is fantastic, I will give you that. However, his only quality start came against us and he has not been dominant since May. Additionally, these are not top tier teams he has been facing of late. I do not see this as a guy who puts us over the top (not even sure he'd crack our top 3 SP the ways he's been trending downward. Just some food for thought.
  8. Well said! I have also heard arguments that signing Kimbrel may not allow us to lock up young players to long term deals. That argument is pretty flawed. We have Kepler, Polanco and Gonzales on the books next year for 19 million. Assuming we pick up Cruz's option for 12, that puts us at 31M. Perez has a 7.5M option which seemed like a no brainer but will be interesting given recent performance, but for arguments sake we pick that up and are now at 38.5M. Add Kimbrel's 15M and now you're at 53.5M. Simply put, we still have ample resources to sign any of our young guys to extensions with that much capital remaining. This really was not an either/or proposition. Even with Kimbrel we need additional pen help to make a serious run in the playoffs. The benefit (as stated by many) was it only cost us money. Now, we likely (hopefully) have to trade for two high impact pen arms (and perhaps another SP). Hopefully, this was a FO decision based on something they are being told about Kimbrel. If it was simply a monetary concern than I am extremely disappointed in the organization.
  9. The Kimbrel has fallen apart based on the playoffs argument is played out in my opinion. Yes, he gave up runs in 4 strait playoffs appearances last year. He also held them scoreless over his last 4. 96/31 K/BB ratio last year in 62 IP. I just don’t see anything better on the trade market, which will also cost us prospects. I for one am disappointed.
  10. 3 years 45 M https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/06/cubs-to-sign-craig-kimbrel.html Well...dang it!
  11. June 03 is the day we find out if we locked up Kimbrel and/or Keuchel. Predictions?
  12. Reading these reports every day (excellent work by the way) and am I the only one who feels like Larnach is this years Kirlloff? Seems like every day he’s doing something special (much like Kirilloff last year).
  13. I agree with the above statement that we are going to have major issues once we have to start utilizing a 5 man rotation. I am trying not to overreact to a 10 game sample size but this article makes me think we are in for a long season of poor pitching performances. Of those listed above, Romero is really the only player that gives me any hope. It makes the decision to utilize Romero as a RP all the more curious as he could have provided at least #4 SP numbers for us this year. As it stands, we have 3 guys we can trust. Gibby will better. Pineda has been fun to watch, however I wonder if he will be on an innings limit or wear down as the season goes on. Berrios looks like this could be his coming out party. Ordo looks like he should be the long man out of the BP, given his track record of success the first time through a lineup. Perez looks awful so far. It is frustrating (as many have pointed out) that we made no effort to address our pitching this offseason. I am a big fan of the FA acquisitions to the lineup but we aren't going to playoffs by winning shoot outs every night.
  14. Yeah you would think if he was willing to take a 3 year or lower deal, he would have done it by now so I completely understand the argument (same for Keuchel). Aside from those arms, I think the frustration more so lies with the fact that FO did absolutely nothing to address our biggest need. I don't post often but concur that I too was frustrated seeing quality arms go for pennies on the dollar this offseason, and we did not partake in any way. At this point though we are either stuck with what we got or forced to trade prospects to address the problem. For those that are on the sign Kimbrel bandwagon, would you give him 4 years at say 17-18M per (which may even be under what he is requesting)?
  15. I know it’s being discussed in the game thread but figured why not give it one of its own. Prety sure there haven’t been any prior threads on this before
  16. That is what I am thinking as well. The question is what type of prospect are we looking at? I think if we could one in the 16-20 range we should be pretty happy.
  17. From MLB trade rumors. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/01/twins-front-office-discusses-spending-plans.html Sums up what many on this site have discussed. Thought it was a pretty thorough and interesting analysis.
  18. Thanks for the feedback guys. Agreed on Ryu. With he QO it makes me much less inclined to sign him. Sorry on my RHB/LHB mixup (I did this very early this morning). I think what made me so excited is this is truly a season defining off season for us. We could, theoretically, sign Machado or Harper or Corbin. Or, we could go my offseason rote abd aign short term/ high upside guys. It’s fun bc we’ve never really had this kind of spending and I am truly excited about our offseason for the first in a long time ! Wise from my offseason plans, and discussed at length on this site, we also have significant depth to make some trades as well! Long story longer, it’s gonba be a helluva fun offseason !
  19. Hey guys, been a frequent of the site for a long time but new to posting on here. I just finished reading the Offseason Handbook and I think we are in a unique situation this year. Woke up early, was bored and felt like being GM for a morning. With the luxury of money we have to spend here is how I would go about our off-season. Free Agent Signings 1B/3B/DH Josh Donaldson (1 yr/16M): He is top of my list given he will likely only require a 1 year deal. If we become sellers could be a great trade chip. 2B Logan Forsythe (1 yr/3M): 2B is a huge hole for us. He showed promise post-deadline with us. Small risk to be a decent stop gap until Gordon (assuming he gets moved to 2B) is ready. 1B//DH Adams (1yr/8M): In my mind a perfect compliment to LH DH Austin. RP Andrew Miller (2 yr/12M): Gm's know him well from Cleveland and he's coming off an injury-plaugued season. Feel he is a great bounce back candidate (K/9 was over 12). RP Jeurys Familia (3 yr/39M): We get our closer for the foreseeable future SP Hyun-Jin Ryu (2 yr/30M): We could really use a LH SP in our rotation. Guy has been injury prone in the past but he is my top choice for FA SP to add this year. He is lethal when healthy. 2019 Roster C Castro 8M C Garver 550K 1B Austin 550K 1B Adams 8M 2B Forsythe 3M SS Polanco 600K 3B Sano 3M 3B Donaldson 16M OF Kepler 3M OF Buxton 2M OF Rosario 4M 4TH OF Cave 550K UTL Adrianza 2M TOTAL 42.2M All 3 FA signings are on one year deals so if it doesn't work out, no harm no foul. Gives the young guys one more year to see what we got and we can head into the 2020 season knowing for sure what gaps to fill. Honestly, I could go either way with Forsythe. I think we probably go with a vet here though and wait for to see if/when Gordon can take the reigns. You can really insert an vet on the cheap. 2018 STARTER/PEN SP Berrios 600K SP Gibson 8.5M SP Ryu 7.5 SP Pineda 15 SP Odorizzi 10 LONG MAN Meja 550K RH RP Hildenberger 600K RH RP May 1.5M RH RP Reed 8.5M LH RP Miller 12M LH RO Rogers 1.5M CL Familia 13M TOTAL 78.25M My hope going into the offseason is we sign two high impact RP and one SP with good upside. Of my FA signings only one, Familia, gets a 3 year pact. TOTAL 2019 TWINS SALARY - 121.45M This salary seems within our means and is probably less than we are projected to have for a team salary. If we compete, if gives us a little wiggle room to make a deadline deal. If we struggle, we should have some nice pieces to trade. Note: I based my FA signing salaries on the Handbook. That's all I got, let me know how you think I did. Glad to be joining the Twins Daily community!
  20. Hey guys, new to posting however I have been going to this site for awhile now. Not sure if this is the right forum but I'm looking at getting the Flex 20 plan for the Twins this year. I go to 10-15 games a year and was wondering if there is value in it or feedback from anyone who utilized it before. Thanks in advance.
