Gardy's looking to earn style points for pinch hitting for his leadoff batter if they bring in a tough lefty in the late innings. Any schmoe can make the call to pinch hit for an 8th spot batter.

Over the years, I've seen Gardy pencil in some really dumb choices at the 1/2 spot of the lineup.

 

I'm not sure where Clete Thomas ranks on that list but he ain't low on it, that's for sure.
