  1. The Nationals are all out of love for Span. Way too inconsistent (5 for 5 one night, 3 for 25 the next five nights) with a low on-base percentage. Problem is they need infield help which the Twins do not have a surplus of. Plus, if I remember right, Span is due a lot of money next year.
  2. While you're checking out potential trade partners, worth remembering that the Washington Nationals are approaching Dep Con 3, and the reporters that follow them on a daily basis are even more panicky.
  3. My guess is we've seen the extent of TR's FA pitching acquisitions. I'm as hard as the next guy on last year's staff, but I've seen enough of Dempster to persuade me he is not $26 million better than what we have. If Ryan picks up another pitcher, it more likely will come by trade. And while we keep saying Mauer can't/won't be traded and it's unlikely Morneau will be moved, keep an eye on Boston and Baltimore.
  4. in ever assuming that at least one team wouldn't offer Baker gobs of money? The Twins need to start almost from scratch. Tying up more than $1million on a chronically injured pitcher would have been crazy.
