  1. Right-handed pitcher for the Twins who is currently in AAA-Rochester. He was born in January of 1985, which means he is currently 27 years old. Pre-Twins He was a 14th round draft pick in 2006. He was originally drafted by the Diamondbacks, but went to Notre Dame instead. He missed his entire freshman year due to reconstructive elbow surgery. Minor Leagues Up until last year, he was exclusively a starter in the minors. His overall ERA in the minors is 3.49, and he has a 3+:1 K:BB ratio. However, his career strikeout rate is just 7.3. Majors After advancing steadily through the minors, Manship debuted with the Twins in 2009, working both as a starter and a reliever. He's bounced back and forth between Rochester and the majors since, but was sidelined a good chunk of last season with oblique and elbow issues. (The elbow issue was resolved when an bone spur was removed.) This Year Manship is working as a reliever in Rochester. He was very impressive in spring training with the Twins, and is off to an even better start with the Red Wings. So far, in 11 innings, he's struck out 10, walked 4, and given up 10 hits, none of which were home runs. All told that's resulted in a 0.82 ERA in early action.
  2. 1) I can't believe he lasted until Page 4 and 2) The Voice of Reason is going to be very disappointed by this.
  3. This is the worst time of the year to look for pitching. Frankly, the Twins already have better options in AAA than anything that is likely to be available on the waiver wire. Or are you proposing the Twins pay big money to Roy Oswalt (probably against his will)?
  4. I'd love to see this as a forum topic.
  5. I'd like to see Parmelee in RF over Thomas, that's for sure. Maybe they're trying to "protect" him so he isn't worried about his defense?
  6. Swap Mauer and Benson. Mauer seems more like a RF guy, and Benson can cover left a lot more. Otherwise, I'm optimistic.

  8. Aaron and John talk about Francisco Liriano's latest ugly start, Luke Hughes leaving via the waiver wire, the clock ticking on Alexi Casilla and Danny Valencia, phone calls from listeners, why the bullpen has been better than expected, and why getting old stinks. 11. I don't think there's much of a market in April, but in July, if Benson or Revere look reasonably ready, I'd move him for a young dependable starter in a second.
  12. It'll be interesting to see what this week holds. a) he's been terrible and they're finally facing a bunch of southpaws. BTW, the "extra innings" in the Gleeman and the Geek podcast has a lot of Clete talk.
  13. Gardenhire said Thomas is in right field again today. That's 6 of 8 games. At least it sounds like there is some reasoning - Thomas is 3 of 6 in his career vs Niemann. Thomas is now hitting .143.
  14. Seth, could you post a link to your top 50 prospects, so relative newcomers can get some names, positions, levels, etc?
  15. So I made at least one mistake - Thomas has only started five games, not six. He played last last night but did not start versus the lefty. So that's good news. It is looking like mostly a platoon in RF between Thomas and Plouffe. But it still raises the question - why is Thomas starting over Parmelee ever? - When Mauer is catching, Doumit could always be the LHed guy in right field. - And then just "rest" Mauer at 1B or DH when facing a southpaw. - If facing a southpaw AND Mauer needs rest, then I guess I can see Thomas starting over Parmelee occasionally, but it's not like Parmelee can't play right field. He played about half his games there in the minors. Thomas should be getting two starts a week, not five. And it's not like we don't know who this guy is. Three hits in his first three games doesn't override a 1000+ plate appearances in AAA where he hit .252. Especially not when he's 28.
  16. Twins have the 10th best OBP in the majors and the 11th best OPS. That's a good sign.
  17. There are at least four things in that quote I want to talk about. I've started a Clete Thomas thread, because this is going to drive me crazy. http://twinsdaily.com/showthread.php?931-Clete-Thomas-Is-The-Twins-Starting-Right-Fielder-Really
  18. Started this in the game thread, but it's probably it's own topic... Iif we're looking for a reason to get worked up about Gardy's lineup, forget this 3rd catcher crap - Clete is the topic we should be focusing on. Thomas has STARTED in right field six of the seven games he's been with the Twins. What the hell? I can understand it a couple of times. For instance, his first game, he gets a pass. His second game he gets a pass because he had the big first game. And I can understand the two starts when the lefties were on the mound and Gardy was protecting/resting Morneau. But that still doesn't explain Game 3 in NYY and tonight. Parmelee is getting screwed here. Is this just Gardy riding a relatively hot hand, trying to find out what he can do? Or is this going to be a problem/season long obsession?
  19. Clete Thomas again? I gotta say, if we're looking for a reason to get worked up about Gardy's lineup, forget this 3rd catcher crap - this is the topic we should be focusing on. Thomas has STARTED in right field six of the seven games he's been with the Twins. What the hell? I can understand it a couple of times. For instance, his first game, he gets a pass. 20. Good suggestion. There is likely a pretty easy way to do that.
  21. If you're looking for a sample of what this might end up looking like, check out the Sons of Sam Horn Adopt a Prospect Forum (for the Red Sox): http://sonsofsamhorn.net/forum/10-the-adopt-a-prospect-forum/
  22. I'll throw out one concern - once per week seems a little aggressive. Once every other week seems more reasonable and once per month probably passable. The only caveat would be #3 - if there is a major event, jump on it as soon as you can.
  23. I'm obviously not a minors guy, but I like the idea of checking in on one guy occasionally, seeing how he's doing and giving an update. It give me someone to root for, especially if he's an underdog. I gotta think a little about who I want to it to be.
  24. Twins are now 5-9 with the remaining games left before they get to some serious division contenders on 5/13. 2 @ Rays 3 vs. Red Sox 3 vs. Royals 6 @/vs Angels 3 @ Mariners 3 vs Blue Jays They'll have played 34 games by then. Two questions: 1. What do we think their record will be? 2. What record would make you happy? I'll go with 1. 15-19 : split with Rays, 1 of 3 vs Red Sox, 2 of 3 vs. Royals, split with Angels, 2 of 3 vs. Mariners and 1 of 3 vs Blue Jays. 2. I'd be happy enough with 15-19. Anything over that and I'll be quite happy.
