  1. I agree with this 100%. Gibson was OK. worked out of some jams, and it's difficult to be disappointed when a guy goes six scoreless. But in a Low Leverage game like that, you'd hope for a little better.
  2. Meyer throwing 99 pitches in his last start threw me for a loop. I know he was on a pretty strict innings and pitch count coming into the year after last year's shoulder issues. Could stretching him indicate that maybe his arm is doing better than expected and they're thinking about moving him up?
  3. Thanks for the defense guys. I asked the question because I don't have that information and it's not always the easiest to find and this info. If you have recommendations as to where I can find it in the future, I'd be glad to save you guys the trouble of having to pass down the information.
  4. When drafted by the Twins in the fourth round, Gonsalves was touted as a guy with a chance to be the big steal from that draft. As this most recent round of promotions went around, I expected him to finally make his way to Cedar Rapids, but seems he got passed over. Seems as if he had one rough outing this year, but other than that, his brief professional career has been nothing short of dominating. Career numbers IP: 42.1 ERA: 1.70 WHIP: 1.03 HR: 0 K: 53 BB: 14 It's not that Hu or Reed weren't deserving, but Gonsalves has better numbers and more success than both of them. Is there some reason he's being held back?
  5. Jose Berrios - 5/27/1994 Adelberto Meija - 6/20/1993 Berrios is 341 days younger than the next youngest pitcher in the league.
  6. He had a nice outing tonight though. He even threw 99 pitches. I think that's the first time he went over 90 this year.
  7. Question. What has Sano been doing to keep himself busy? Seems like with a bum throwing arm, he should still be able to field a boat load of grounders and work that fielding.
  8. This is a fantastic point. Hadn't noticed that.
  9. The Twins did take out an insurance policy on his arm that covers any elbow injuries. If he misses extended time, the organization will be recouped for loss (once deductibles are met) and Nolasco's contract won't be a drag on payroll. To be clear, this isn't something that will void Nolasco's contract. Just something that will recoup losses for extended time on the DL
  10. For those who are concerned about managment not making another move until Nolasco's contract is off the books, know that Ryan pursued Matt Garza to the last second, and offered him more annual money than Milwaukee did, after they had signed Nolasco and Hughes. They were ready to add more payroll, and don't see Ricky's injury deterring them from adding payroll
  11. Much better news than the "he got traded" scenario that was running through my head.
  12. He may get a promotion to AA, and with a good performance through the rest of the year, a September call up and an opportunity to earn a spot coming out of spring training. I don't expect to see him in the majors again this year
  13. I'd argue that neither of them are truly representative. Since there's a discrepancy, it means there's differing opinions on what determines a pitcher's effectiveness, and that the truth exists somewhere between the two. But that's just my inner statistician poking it's ugly head out.
  14. Fangraphs is a lot more lenient toward bad pitching performances than baseball-reference. A nice read to understand the difference if you're into that thing is: http://www.fangraphs.com/library/war/differences-fwar-rwar/
  15. Meyer is on a pitch and innings count after his shoulder injury last year. It was a long shot to see him this year, and with us not competing, I wouldn't expect it.
  16. Just like Gilmarten came up and got to make his first start with AAA because of a doubleheader, will Berrios pitch tonight in New Britain's double dip?
  17. Considering he was the youngest player in A+, and will likely be the youngest at AA it's tough to say. The way he dominated A+ though..... Lots of room for optimism
  18. Considering he was the youngest player in A+, and will likely be the youngest at AA it's tough to say. The way he dominated A+ though..... Lots of room for optimism
  19. I think with Pelfrey and Correia you saw the stop gap measures over the last couple of years. I think Hughes and Nolasco (and don't forget, the offered Garza 50+million over for years too), you saw a front office that may not be competing this year, but is adding guys it thought would be around when they are competing in the next year or two. As for Anderson, I don't think he can be blamed for all the pitching struggles this organization had had recently, but I don't think he's helped. And considering his propensity to focus on fastball command (which isn't Nolasco's forte), I'd like to see what he does with a new pitching coach
