  1. No way they take Toukki at 5. Too much risk and his price tag has been reported to be very high (most likely because of his Vandy commitment). Has upside but I wouldn't like that pick. Newcomb should and needs to be our guy. We lack LHP and if we can add one who resembles Jon Lester then why not? He would sign for slot money and we could come back round 2 and grab the prep pitcher if we want. I think the only 3 I would take before Newcomb are Jackson, Aiken, and Rodon. But I don't see them falling. My personal fave in this draft is Schwarber but he just doesn't fit the Twins needs. I see Theo sitting at #4 waiting for Rodon to fall in his lap. Let's go Twins!! Happy Draft Day!
  2. Jerm, Would Prep RHP Spencer Adams be of interest to the Twins in Round 2 if he fell? I like what I hear about him. I like the idea of Stinnett in round 2 as well. I'll give you a nice name to keep an eye on for the later rounds ..maybe 10-15.. RHP JP Feyereisen from River Falls WI. He played his college ball at Stevens Point. Has a good frame and could profile well as a middle reliever. Plus I got a hit off him once playing summer town ball, so I'd like to say I got a hit off a major leaguer someday!
  3. I agree with Seth! Steer clear of Kolek.. I understand that he throws 102.. but he is the riskiest of all the top players in this class (see Stetson Allie a few years ago). I see him being a closer or high octane reliever not as a starter. And no one wants to waste a top 5 pick on a reliever. Aiken is by far the best player in the class and he is going to be off the board. Rodon will be gone as well. I personally think we go college arm this year. Hoffman would be cheap and might have the highest ceiling of all the college starters when healthy. Plus TJ is already out of the way. I can and will keep saying though that I like the big strong lefty in Newcomb though more than Nola and Freeland. He just looks like the next Jon Lester. Gordon, eh, leave him for the birds.
  4. One must remember we play at Target Field. A pitchers heaven and a left handed hitters hell. Granted the Twins have some RH bats with pop on the horizon (Buxton, Sano, Walker) it might be wise to continue with Alex Jackson. I think it's safe to say he is going to end up in RF but the Twins wouldn't have anyone to block him. He will move fast as long as his bat projects. Gordon could be a potential all star at SS but his bat scares me enough to think we can wait for something better. I personally would take Turner before Gordon. More polish, good speed, ability to stick at SS, line drive leadoff type guy who brings a sense of leadership. Kolek looks too much like Stetson Allie. All power and no control. Someone better hope he can hit like Allie in the case where he never finds his command. The Twins most glaring hole is for a #1 starter, but they don't grow on trees. I think they go the safe route and take the bat (Jackson) and hope they already have their ace in Meyer lined up.
  5. If the draft took place today here's how I'd see the top 5... HOU - Tyler Kolek MIA - Carlos Rodon CHW - Brady Aiken CHC - Alex Jackson MIN - could go many ways here.. Nick Gordon ..A SS who's going to take time Sean Newcomb ..big solid lefty from Hartford (think Jon Lester type) Kyle Freeland Luke Weaver.. another quick moving type SP Aaron Nola Trea Turner.. still like him but I still am suspect in his bat.. will move faster than Gordon If I'm the Twins I'd go with Newcomb and throw a lefty into that future rotation of Meyer, Stewart, Berrios, Gibson..
