  1. IMO, this is all relative to pitching. Until we get pitchers that can actually strike people out, and get the defense off the field quicker, this team is hopeless. If you look around the league, most teams have a defensively sub-par corner outfielder in the starting lineup. That's probably what Arcia's destiny is going to be with the Twins. If your other two OF spots are league avg or above defenders, you're in good shape. How many games did the twins start Willingham in LF? Arcia can't be any worse than he was. But to me, this all boils down to pitching and strike outs. Whether that involves a change in philosophy (firing Anderson) or trading prospects for FRONT LINE starting pitching, I'm not sure. It seems like even our pitchers that are dominant strike out pitchers in the minor leagues are coming up and changing their philosophy. Something has to give here.
  2. Gotta go starting pitcher the next couple rounds here...
  3. Is there really any hard evidence that proves high mph guys are more prone to having TJ surgery? I understand that the recent pitchers in the news that have had it were hard throwers, but for every one of those there's a Kyle Gibson and Wimmers that aren't hard throwers that have had TJ as well. I think it has more to do with workload and arm action/angle (though I do not claim to be a doctor). I think we're eventually going to see clubs lean towards HS pitchers because they've had smaller workloads, and their mechanics will be easier to adjust at a younger age. I think there's less risk of Kolek blowing out than there is of Rodon. Rodon was throwing 140-150 pitch outings at NC State, and he's been doing it for 3 extra years. Just my 2 cents.
  4. Don't be scared. The dude throws gaaaasssssss. My order: Aiken, Rodon, Kolek, Gordon, Jackson, Newcomb, Nola
  5. I really hope they don't pass on Kolek at 5. Just seems to have the highest upside to me. Gordon would be fine if Kolek is off the board.
  6. This seems kind of crazy to me. When was the last time the Twins had a solid 2-way SS? Hardy (who was hurt most of the season)? That position has been a black hole for years in this organization. By all accounts, Alex Jackson is destined for a corner outfield spot, which is seemingly every major leaguers fall back position. Just look who the Twins have been playing there lately. I think if you get the opportunity to draft a stud franchise shortstop, you have to take it. Short stops that can field AND hit at a high level are extremely rare. I don't think Gordon's bat is THAT far behind Jackson's. If I were drafting for the Twins, I'd take any of the big 3 pitchers (Rodon, Aiken, Kolek) should one fall, and after that it's 1) Gordon 2) Freeland/Nola 3) Jackson on the priority list. Everything I've read regarding Gordon is that he would sign for under slot too, giving the Twins more flexibility later in the draft to sway a High School Pitcher with high upside to sign. Alex Jackson is a Scott Boras guy, so you know that ain't happening. P.s. I'm really intrigued by Tyler Kolek though. Dude throws FLAME.
