  1. I agree, the Twins are several years away, if Rosario can be good as second, his value is higher to the Twins. I would think the Twins could get better value for Dozier then moving Rosario to the outfield.
  2. Hicks needs to go down to the minors and work on his hitting. He has never shown he could hit above AA, so whether he drops switch hitting or not, he has to find himself as a hitter. I can't blame the Twins for starting him at the beginning of last year, I don't think 23 is young for a top prospect (young for the Twins, but not for the league). The problem they have is the roster they have built over the last 2 years. And that falls on Ryan not Antony. Antony hasn't help over the last 2 months, but outfield roster has been a mess for the last 2 years. When Hicks struggled early last year, he should have been sent down, but they had no option then either.
  3. The front office really has no plan for the outfield. They just bring up players and tell them that they are now outfielders. Even with Parmelee, if they wanted him to be an outfielders, why did he play most his games at first base at AAA? Can't be because we had other major league OF's at AAA. Now with Santana, they have a player who needs to develop his skills as a shortstop (another position of weakness in the organization), but they throw him to centerfield at the majors. Then they cut players from the 40 man roster who can actually play the outfield. It's becoming clear that they have no real plan to field a competitive team this year.
  4. Again, this doesn't explain the mess Ryan was in charge of last year with the roster. And isn't Smith and Anthony guys Ryan put or recommended for their position? I'm sure he has more important thing on his mind now, but if you want to look at the problem in the organization, it's really hard to not also look at how Ryan has performed over last few years. Looks like the magic is gone, how long to you want to hold on to what happen 10 years ago? I forgot, that's how we are building our roster this year.
  5. Why does everyone give Ryan a pass and blame everyone else in the front office. Wasn't the lack of center fielder a problem last year and Ryan was around the whole year. As far as Gardy's having influence, wasn't it Ryan who brought him back after 3 years of 90 losses. It's good to see we dropped another CF prospect for the 40 man roster for another player who can't move and we'll put him in the outfield. At least the FO is consistent.
  6. The Twins started the season with Hicks who was terrible last year, Willingham who was out most of last year and has a history of injuries, Arcia who was in and out with injuries last year and Kubel who is old with an injury history. If you go into the season with that outfield, you better have some options in AAA. There is no excuse for this mismanagement. The roster moves over the last two years have been horrible. We just throw people in the outfield like we are running a little league team.
  7. For a team that is suppose to be rebuilding for the future, we seem to be in love with 30+ players. This organization has no idea of what direction they are going in. It's hard to find a reason to watch this team.
  8. After watching Hicks last year, not sure if he can only go up. Fuld's lifetime line is looking like a goal for Hicks at this point. Might be easier for him to gain some confidence in the the minors.
  9. I think the bigger concern is that Hicks hitting isn't a statistical anomally. He hasn't hit above 1 season at AA, so I think it's probably best for him to work on his swing in AAA. The backup centerfield (along with the starting center fielder) has been a problem for the last 2 years. We have cut 2 outfielder that would have been better off with as backup with Hicks developing in the minors. Also still not sure why we need the 3rd catcher when if you ran into a emergency, why can't you us Mauer for a couple innings?
  10. Good reminder of what a crapshoot prospects are, but I think these prospects are rated higher overall then Hendricks and the Twins minor league talent is higher than when Hendricks was in the system. So a top ten prospect 3-4 years ago probably is more like a low 20 in the current system.

Carew's relationship with the Twins had nothing to do with homers. It had lots to do with money and Calvin's racism. You're opinion. Calvin's racism had something to do with it. But every year, salary negotiations with Calvin focused on why he thought he shouldn't pay the guy as much as he deserves. In short, they focused on the negative. After one of the years he won the batting title, Calvin proposed a pay cut because he wasn't hitting enough homers. So Carew went into camp the next year with the mission to hit more homers. "I'll show you." was the attitude. It didn't work. You doubt this story? Read the archives. Not sure where you get the "It didn't work", I believe Carew had his 3 largest home run total during that time and increased his RBI from 50's into 80,90 & 100. Looks like he showed Calvin he could.
  12. What wrong with a 3 run home run or a 2 run double? Mauer is the best hitter on the team, but he leave important at bat to other players. Sometimes the best hitter needs to show it when the games on the line. Too often over the last couple years, Mauer has not shown it during the important AB, which again, I think was the point of the Reusse's article.
  13. Olerud did win a batting title in 1993 (.363 with a .473 OBP), so compared to Mauer's 3, he closer to him then Mauer is to Carew 7 title. Not saying Olerud is elite, just saying he a better comparison. Mauer still has a lot to prove before you put him in Carew's class.
  14. With Deduno, Mays & Meyer, it was strange that they resigned Pelfrey for 2 years. I doubt Correia or Pelfrey will bring anything in trade. It's more likely they will have to cut them, Correia this year and Pelfrey next year.
  15. Time will tell, but I think five years from now the comparison to Carew and Gwynn will not be close. Last year he was a .240 hitter with RISP. I'm a long time Twins fan, but I don't see a player on the upswing ready to carry a team. Which I think was were we started the whole conversation. The best case is Buxton and Sano are stars and Mauer can set the table for them.
  16. Good thing Joe's no longer a catcher, so if he wins 4 batting titles from the age of 34-37 like Gywnn, I'll have no problem putting him in the same category.
  17. All these players have over 3,000 hits. Mauer has 1,400 so it's unlikely he will get close to 3,000. I think John Olerud is a more comparable.
  18. If Mauer is deferring to Plouffe after a weeks worth of production, I think that a big problem. That why I think Joe is more a complementary player than the player that is going to carry the team. And I think that is by choice not by talent. Sometimes a player need to outside his comfort zone to help the team win, and I don't see Mauer as that type of player.
  19. I think the big disagreement is in your statement that the OBP is the more valuable stat. What the article wanted was more slugging from Mauer, which I agree with. Yesterday, down 3 and 2 runners on base, I don't want Mauer working the pitcher for a walk and leaving it up to Plouffe.
  20. Why do people try to compare Mauer to Carew? Carew had 7 batting titles, a better comparison would be Oliva. And Oliva wasn't voted into the HOF, so can we call him an elite hitter?
  21. But being an elite hitter at the worst offensive position is not saying much. The reason there are not many elite hitting catchers is because it a catcher can hit they move them to a position where they can play 155 games. Mauer is a very single's good hitter with a great one base percentage, but I think the article was about how the Twins really need him to produce at a higher level. I think that's a fair assessment.
  22. I think Mauer is a lot like Kevin Garnett, a great complimentary player, but not the player who is going to lead the team to a championship. He came off the MVP season putting up 28 home runs and signed the big contract. Expectations by most people was he would continue to put up similar numbers. But we went back to what he had done in the past. Not being a bad player, just not the player people had hope he would become.
  23. Gardy is just setting up to bring Nick Punto back. Losing 90 games and getting an extension, he going for 100 loses and a lifetime contract.
  24. I agree that Kubel or Collabello shouldn't be locks for roster. They are replacement level players who if they don't show signs this spring that they can add value and Ramirez does show signs of being a player - he should be kept on the roster.
