  1. Er, no they wouldn't. The MLPA simply has no reason to care about those not in their membership (and these players are NOT members in any meaningful sense), even perspective or impending members. I would argue that this lawsuit is incomplete and that the Major League's Player's Association should be enjoined as defendents and co-conspirators in limiting the amount of money available for amature signings and those in the minors who lack voting power within the Union. Afterall, the Players Unoin shaped and signed off on the CBs and have never visibly recognized or forwarded the cause of these types of players. The Union is just as culpable and fines and remedies should be split.
  2. Lol, no. Prior's career WAR is significantly lower than Mauer's. Prior hasn't pitched in the ML for the better half of the past decade. Prior's WAR is 15.7, with peak of 7.4 in 2003Mauer's WAR is 44.4, with peak of 7.7 in 2009
  3. I think that this means they are committed to Presley, and want to keep their options open with Hicks. They're plan is probably Hicks as the Starter and Pressley as the 4th OF. If Hicks doesn't impress, there is still the possibility to find a back up CF and enough of their own guys that'll have to be passed through waivers anyway for being out of options.
  4. Innaccuracies in the media? maybe that's why journalists are amongst the least trusted professions. Teachers are amongst the more trusted. http://www.gallup.com/poll/1654/honesty-ethics-professions.aspx
  5. Also, I don't think the Twins would be satisfied with rushing Polanco to be a utility guy. If all goes well, in 2015 he will be in double A looking forward to his first real look in spring training in 2016. With Danny Santana I'm more worried about his strike zone control. He's not going to hit .290 in the majors with that little power and those strikeout/walk rates. Often, a shaky glove works its way out in ways a bad eye at the plate doesn't.
  6. Plouffe is a bad third baseman. To be versitile, don't you have to have some competency at various positions? Plouffe's versitility is more of a mirage than anything. That they have shifted him around is as much a result of his inadequacies as it has been for the needs of a roster with perrenially thin infield depth.

  8. Let me be a naysayer for the sake of naysaying: 1) His recovery time tells us little other than he heals fast from Tommy John. How's his pitching? And you can't just pick and choose which months are important like that when we have a long, established history of stats that tells us he's nothing spectacular. 2) No, he doesn't have excellent stuff. Hitters can hit 90+ fastballs at this level as well as 86+ MPH sliders. Excellent stuff should at some point translate into missed bats, not 10+ hits per 9 innings. 3) He is going to play infront of a mediocre defense this year too, and it wouldn't hurt him so bad if he missed bats. 4) I would like to hear how these intangibles will help him produce less base runners. If congeniality won baseball games, the Hall of Fame would have a far different makeup. 5) So your reasoning is that its okay because you can compare Pelfrey's contract to another error they made? At one point do the Twins realize that these were obvious, avoidable mistakes? When they add up to Robinson Cano's contract? I just want to hear from somebody that Pelfrey had a two-year offer somewhere else because it's doubtful he did.
  9. Well, they signed Correia because the Twins offered him what a lot of commentators considered an above-market deal. I think it was about the Money and years for him. What you say is true about Pelfrey, but honestly, Pelfrey is not a good pitcher, never really has been. Decent #3 guys will not have a problem finding a team that will commit to starting them, but borderline #4 guys like Mike Pelfrey will
  10. Well okay, that's different and I stand corrected. But still, we don't have to make any sort of issue of this until the end of March. If he has a good spring, I'm guessing the Twins do not pick up enough talent this offseason to warrant any reason to keep him off the ML roster. If he's a mess, he likely passes waivers anyway.
  11. Why are we talking about dumping him from the 40-Man Roster? There is so much dead-weight on it currently, why dump a 24-year old Starting Pitcher? And it's not like there are guys at AA he's blocking by being at AAA. He has ongoing issues at the ML level, and given his mediocre performance at AAA, maybe he's in decline, or maybe something's wrong. Here's what you do with a 24-year old pitcher who's not out of options: you bring him to spring training, and from there he either makes the opening day roster, or he goes to AAA.
  12. Well, they can't. "Can't Miss" pitching prospects get listed towards the top of the 'best-100 prospect' charts. Rosario is near the bottom in those, if he even makes it at all. And those types of prospects just aren't often traded anyways. The Twins are either going to have to be uncharacteristically aggressive in free agency just to land a few decent #3s. Most likely, they are going to go with what they have, minus Pelfry, and sign some other veteran mediocrity. I'd personally like them to go after Johan and Hughes, but why would either of these guys want to sign with the Twins? Same with anyone else. All these guys will recieve better multi-year offers from several other clubs and the Twins will sign whatever unfortunate marginal veteran low-end #3 who's stuck without a chair when the music stops.
  13. Apparently, Nishioka checked out with our scouts. So I don't think it's as simple as that. Top-flight Japanese pitchers tend to be a crapshoot, and none of them seem to have the control the Twins are usually looking for. I think there's better risks. Santana and Hughes...
  14. But the "iron isn't hot" with Dosier, it's marginally above room temperature. Like you say later, he's been a decent hitter for about four months and prior to that, he was an aging, marginal prospect. The possibility for regression would be just as obvious to every other team. I'm not sure what sort of player you think we could get in exchange for either player, but it certainly wouldn't the salvation of our rotation. I mean Dosier would likely get us someone more like a Liam Hendricks than a Jose Barrios in any exchange, and we just don't need any more #4 starter candidates. And Rosario? A borderline top 100 prospect who's position is still not completely settled isn't going to get you a mlb ready starter who's at least a good #3 either. In either case, you will not be selling high on either player. Doser could regress, but he could also put up another season with a .720 OPS and plus-defense. If he does, he's a lot more valueable in trade than he is now. Same thing for Rosario if he hit sucessfully at AAA and shows he can do so at the ML level. Keep both.
