Article: Twins sign Ynoa for $800k
Spicoli replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like this signing. He could be really good. I just hate how we dont go after the top guys in the class. I mean look at how well it has played out for Darvish, Abreau, Tanaka.... The thing that sucks about being from MN is there is no salary cap in baseball and there is no way we can compete with Boston, NY, LAD.... According to Baseball Americas rankings the NYY's have signed the 7th, 6th and 2nd ranked Int'l FA's. And they got Tanaka last year. Its just so frustrating. If your a MN sports fan the only team that spends the money in FA and makes big trades is the Wild. -
Article: Twins Select Nick Gordon Fifth Overall
Spicoli replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think it is a great pick! The Twins went out and got maybe the best position player in the draft... Remember the last time we did that? Yea that guy is the number 1 prospect in the game now. Its awesome seeing how much high end talent the Twins have in the system now. Soon we will be calling one or 2 up every year. We have a lot to be excited about. -
You mad at the Twins inactivity? I'm not! Here's why...
Spicoli replied to jcphitman's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Only a Twins fan could write a thread like this. In case you haven't noticed the Twins NEVER sign good FA's. Especially with the new owners! You really think their inactivity is a tactic to get cheaper players? Heck no! They wont get Santana, Jimenez, Nolasco..... They might get Arroyo but that's because nobody else wants a player that old, only the Twins would do something that dumb just to say they did something. The Twins aren't active because they don't plan on paying anyone decent. Everyone here talks about how signing anyone good is a bad idea because they will be overpaid lol. News flash, to win you have to spend money. In a league with no salary cap you really cant overpay someone. Yea if they get a season ending injury or something it was a bad move but you cant say you overpaid someone right after they were signed. The market determines what a player gets. The Twins have saved hundreds of millions the last several seasons with their super small payrolls, they can afford to spend money. But they wont. Its truly sad how every off season the Twins break our hearts. Last season we all were talking about which top SP we were getting. Then before we knew it we traded away 2 of our best players. Don't get your hopes up guys. -
A lot of people seem to not understand the concept of building a team. Yes McCann is 29 and may only catch for several more years, and yes he got paid a lot of money. But you cant find a 22 year old star catcher for 5mil a year in the FA market. You just cant. You pay for the players that will help your team. The Twins payroll next season will be like 40mil? If it were to start today. Several years ago it was 110mil. We have the money to become better but the owners don't want to spend money. Until we get baseball owners instead of business owners we wont be good. I mean heck they could even take note from the Wild. Last season they signed Parise and Suter and traded for Pominville. Suter came in 2nd for Norris and should of won. Parise is a top 15 player in the league and leads the team in points. And Pominville is tied for 4th in goals this year. They made the playoffs for the first time in awhile last year and are having an amazing season this year(on pace for 116 points). And they did it all in FA and Trades. People said they overpaid Suter and Parise, but now it looks like they made an amazing decision. Same with Pominville, they gave up good prospects but its paying off. You HAVE to take risks and spend money to become a good team.

Official 'Twins Aren't Doing Stuff' Thread
Spicoli replied to twinscowboysbulls's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
So far in this early offseason the teams that seem to always win are making moves to get better. At the same time the Twins are doing nothing, oh wait they are talking to a 36 year old pitcher... Why even waist the money on him? I mean he is super old. Matt Garza or Jimenez would be way better options, they are both younger and could help the team next season and a few seasons down the road. Also why not go after McCann? He hits for power and drives in runs. There are so many moves they could be making but they aren't! It is the same teams making moves that always do. Why don't the Twins take notes? -
The Mocks: 2014 MLB Draft (Twins Pick #5)
Spicoli replied to InfraRen's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I don't think its a debate, Twins need to take the best arm available. Hopefully its a college arm so they don't have to wait 4 years to see him. Right now the Twins have absolutely 0 pitching, Meyer could be good and Stewart could be but that's it. I don't think Gibson, Berrios or May will be anything better than a 3. -
The Doumit, Willingham trade challenge
Spicoli replied to Shane Wahl's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Honestly they wont get anything for either of them. Maybe a prospect that will never see the MLB and if they do it will be for a pinch hit. -
You see how many people here are dreaming about him in a Twins uni? Well the Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox and every other big market team are doing the same thing. The only difference is they are willing to spend to win. When was the last time the Twins went out and out bid everyone to get the best FA or the best INTL FA? NEVER. And don't say Sano because we all know if there wasn't an age controversy the Twins would of have no chance. I mean we could of gotten Anibal Sanchez last off season but we didn't, and he was cheap when it comes to good SPs.
-
Sano doesn't weigh 195 btw, MILB dot com is wrong hes 230+.
-
2016? Why will you be out of town til then? Theres a chance hes on the team next season, for sure in 15'.
-
So im pretty sure they will lock up Buxton at some point in his career which mean all of the other prospects that pan out will be gone. They will probably trade Sano for almost nothing just so they don't have to pay him. He doesn't play "Twins" baseball anyway because he can hit HRs. They will probably trade Meyer and Stewart too because they get Ks, but hey if that means we can get several more Worleys than im all for it(That was my sarcastic voice).
-
Let me help you with this because you are waaay overrating some of these players. Pelfrey-4 Correia-4 Diamond-4/5 Gibson-4(Has potential to be 3) Worley-5/Minor Leaguer (Hes the worst of the bunch easily) Deduno-3/4 And what makes you think the Twins will go out and get a 2 when over the last 3 years they have only gotten rid of our best players and cut the payroll in more than half? This year there aren't really any aces so the top pitchers will probably get paid borderline ace money just because that's all that's there which means the Twins wont even think about it. They will get another Correia or Worley.
-
Were gonna have probably 2 number 4s and 3 5s in our starting roto, unless they go out and get a 3 because we know they wont get anyone better.

The Mocks: 2014 MLB Draft (Twins Pick #5)
Spicoli replied to InfraRen's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Honestly we should wait til about a month away from the draft to discuss this because so much changes from now til then. I mean what would of happened if the top 5 at this point last year stayed the top 5 in the draft? Well the draft would of been way different. -
In 10' we won the division, since then we have gone through 3 straight 90 loss seasons. We also saw most of our established players leave or be traded. The payroll has gone from over 110mil in 10' to under 50mil right now. What happened? Its sad to say but the only thing I can think of is the death of Carl Pohlad. Yes when he was owner we saw him get rid of some top players and not be an aggressive trader or FA guy but he kept the team competitive and in the playoffs most years because he spent enough to win. Since his kids took over it has gotten really bad. Like I said we have seen 3 straight 90+ loss seasons and it seems like were only getting worse. They have gotten rid(Traded or didn't resign) of some of our most established players including Cuddyer(Just won NL batting title) and Liriano(Had an amazing year and is pitching great in the playoffs) to just name a couple. And they haven't replaced any of them, or even tried to. Its sad, to see a team as respected as the Twins were to become a doormat. They are also wasting one of the best catchers ever and one of the best current players in the league Joe Mauer's career. I cant stand it. We are losing our best players and every game. Yes we have acquired some great prospects because of our losing and if the Pohlads go out and spend money on players now that we have some prospects coming up than you can call me a fool or whatever, but I don't think they will. I think we will be the same team we are now +10 wins maybe even with our top prospects. Why? Because you NEED good pitching to be a good team(And we literally have none), yes Meyer is close but that's it. Look at SF, they went from WS champ to sub .500 team because there pitching was bad. LAA have a great line up and they didn't make the playoffs. The pitchers in FA aren't that great this year so the top pitchers will get over paid which means the Twins wont even consider them, which means no help for us. Really the only thing we can look forward to is seeing how our prospects pan out.
