Not a bad report on Haley by BA: Haley is the owner of possibly the coolest pre-pitch setups in the minors. He sets up on the third-base side of the rubber, with his other foot straddling the rubber. With the ball in his glove raised in front of his face, he looks in for the sign with his pitching hand cocked at his waist, fingers dancing back and forth like Wyatt Earp ready to draw. He gets the sign for the pitch and then locks, loads and fires. As a starter, Haley’s velocity ticked up as the season warmed up. Late in the season he was sitting 90-92, but his fastball plays up because he locates it well. He also has an above-average slider as well as a useable curveball and changeup. He was dominant in Double-A this year and solid in Triple-A as a starter. Because he has Triple-A experience and feel, and he’s been impressive in the Dominican Republic this fall with Escogido (2-0, 0.38, 24 IP, 12 H, 4 BB, 14 SO), Haley has made a pretty strong case to be picked.

Article: Dozier Trade Talk Heating Up?
Bob Sacamento replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Urias is a chip you use for a franchise changing player like Sale NOT a Dozier-type player, sorry Twins fans. There is no problem in asking for the moon but if I'm Falvey, after I've assessed the farm system, I'm looking and holding firm for pitching and preferably close to MLB ready pitching. The Dodgers have that in DeLeon and they've showed a willingness to shop him around. Still the Dodgers would likely try to keep their pitching while dealing the depth of positional players they have in Calhoun, Verdugo, Bellinger. But if the Twins can get a combo of DeLeon and Calhoun or Alvarez, they should jump on that all day. -
Article: Get To Know: RHP Jordan Balazovic
Bob Sacamento replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Jordan was impressive in the GCL, he showed good command of the strikezone especially for his age, he's also not afraid to throw inside (he had 7 HBP). He has a nice downward plane and balance in his delivery. He also has a deceptive motion where hitters pick the ball up late out of his hand. Still he has some nice stuff with good sinking action on his fastball with above average control. Of his secondary, his changeup is further along than his breaking balls. The changeup comes out of the same slot as his fastball and he has enough velocity differential that it upticks his fastball. He showed flashes of an above average slider at times when he stays on top of it. He didn't flash the curve too much but like the slider needs alot of work. All said, there is a lot to like about this kid especially the further he physically matures. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ux3Uov4ZXPk -
So GCL pitching coach Virgil Vasquez is playing in the Aussie League, looks like it's his fifth consecutive season there. I guess he's gotta keep that pitching arm fresh to throw the kids BP all spring/summer.

Too much is being ballyhooed about bringing back Hunter, Cuddyer, Hawkins for their input. Is it nice to have ex-MLBers in camp and in the organization yes but the bigger issues will be what Levine and Falvey do with the entire MiLB coaching staffs and instructors because THAT is where the organization needs a turnover especially on the pitching front. 2017 will be a work in progress but I'm betting by 17-18 offseason the MiLB staffs will look much different

Article: Twins Add Six Players To 40-Man Roster
Bob Sacamento replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well let me analytic that, Grossman is setup for a substancial regression in 2017. His 2017 is likely to be what Danny Santana's 2015 was after everyone thought his 2014 was so spectacular for all the same reasons. Grossman had a BABIP of .364 which is .030 higher than his career average, (for those who don't know .290-.300 is an average BABIP while .350 is a great hitter) meaning it's not sustainable and he was pretty lucky in 2016. Add in that his line drive career rate of 23.4 went to 25.3%, his groundball rate dropped from his career of 42.3 to 37.8% plus his HR/FB ratio jumped from 9.1% to 12.8% plus his ISO jumped from .121 career line to a .163. Grossman is set for an offensive regression from his .280/.386/.443 of 2016. Think .250/.350/.380 with horrible defense in the outfield for 2017.- 48 replies

Article: Early 2017 Draft Prospects
Bob Sacamento replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well one of the better pitchers I saw in the tournament was from Savage, Minnesota in Samuel Carlson #75 overall rated prospect by PG. Otherwise, Jordon Adell looks like a stronger version of Byron Buxton, extremely athletic, good hit tool plus speed, plus arm; there wasn't a negative thing to say about him. The top pitching prospect was DL Hall and he didn't pitch. As always I ran into Scouting Director Deron Johnson at the WWBA in addition to Mike Ratcliff and GCL coach Ramon Borrego plus 4 other Twins scouts that I don't know. The Padres had the biggest presence with over 30 scouts in attendance. Honestly, when I saw DJ he seemed to be watching more of the kids coming up for the 2018 Draft RHP Kumar Rocker, OF Jarred Kelenic, SS Joe Gray JR, 3B Elijah Cabell, and 3B Will Banfield. I did catch him gushing over 2019 pitchers Hunter Barco as well as Bobby Witt Jr. The Twins did have a large presence when RHP Jack Leftwich (Twins Scout Team/Orlando Scorpions) pitched on Sunday in Round 1 of Tournament play.- 69 replies

Article: Early 2017 Draft Prospects
Bob Sacamento replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Didn't know where else to put this but the Orlando Scorpions, a perennial traveling baseball powerhouse, will be teaming up with the Minnesota Twins for the WWBA World Championship in Jupiter next week. It doesn't mean the team holds any rights to the players, or anything like that, but the players will all be in Twins uniforms which ain't too bad but in theory it gives them a leg up on knowing some of the players. Historically, the Scorpions had teamed up with NY Mets. In the past only a few MLB teams have Scout teams at the WWBA. This year is a different story as the Twins, Padres, Mets, Astros, Dodgers, Braves, Reds, Rays, Marlins and Blue Jays all have Scout teams in the WWBA. While the Padres are the only team that is managing the club. The roster for the Twins/Scorpions will be 2017 HS prospects: Rk Name Position 47 Tim Elko 3B 58 Jack Leftwich RHP 71 Reese Albert OF 77 Christopher Seise SS 92 Calvin Greenfield C 102 Tyler Ahearn RHP 104 Mason Doolittle C 111 Dalton Wingo OF 113 Justin Farmer OF 120 Raymond Gil 3B 138 Jake Molle C 139 Brady Smith C 201 Anthony Servideo SS 226 Donovan Benoit 1B 227 Micheal Pelaez 1B 237 Cameron Robinson RHP 248 Clemente Inclan 3B 300 Michael Spears OF 324 Griffin Bernardo 3B 415 David Vazquez SS- 69 replies

Agree on the 18yo Graterol, but with only pitching a couple of innings in Instructional Ball this fall, kind of hard to put him high up the ladder even with him hitting 97 mph. Next year though, look out for Brusador Almighty in the GCL/Etown, he could climb exponentially.

Beer has a great stroke and bat, saw him play last year in the WWBA and he was very impressive. If he didn't graduate early and attend Clemson he would have been a first rounder last year. Video I took of him hitting in the cage a year ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7aqgX-l4o-w- 69 replies

Starting next week I will be in Jupiter for the Perfect Game WWBA World Championship. ouch, I will say Jordan is very lithe but he's the prototype pitcher (18yo, 6'4, 175lb) in a scout's eye as you can see him adding velo the more he develops physically due to the fact that he'll likely add 20-30lbs to his frame by the time he's done maturing. Having seen him start 3 games in the GCL, the kid produced alot of weak contact and was never hit hard. He did appear to be pitching not throwing which is nice for a youngster. His changeup looks further developed than his curve at this time which makes his 88mph fastball play up. Lot of room to grow but gotta love the "scoutable projection". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ux3Uov4ZXPk

Doesn't make you a sucker Doc, looking an eye on the LHPs in the minors is always a good thing. Even if they struggle in a starting role, they can often show the flashes of plus bullpen arms. As a Cubs fan, Rob Zastryzny is the most recent example I can think of. A decent milb LHSP at best but plays up as a LHRP much better; added FB velocity, sharper breaking ball, and flash a third/fourth pitch to keep hitters honest. If they do move Rosario to fulltime pen, I can see him going that way in 2017.

Article: Twins Send Six To Arizona Fall League
Bob Sacamento replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
BoSox are sending Moncada there as a 3B, I'm sure it's been stressed to the Saguaro coaches. Nicky might get paired with another Cuban prospect at 2B in Andy Ibanez. Gordon's only competition at SS is BoSox Mauricio Dubon. The pitching staff also features "Mr. 105" Michael Kopech, he is great to watch on the mound. When he's on his stuff is unhittable.- 70 replies

2B/3B/LF were the positions that he's been working on this year in order of play time. Before he left EXST, he was looking passable at 2B, still had issues with ground coverage laterally at 2B especially up the hole. Still with his bat it should be good enough to get some regular fieldwork because the only way that gets better is with more reps. Of course it doesn't help that the teams' best hitter Luis Arraez is also the team's 2B and a much better defender than Travis.

Notes from the Spring Training complex, Lewis Thorpe throw off the mound yesterday he's lost a substantial amount of weight (15-20lb) while having mono. Vadim Balan also threw off the mound as well, he's missed time due a back injury- he's the first player signed out of Moldova. Look for both to pitch in Instructionals which starts September 14th.
