1. I'd start by putting him into very low-leverage situations and see how it's going him build up confidence or some time.
2. This is a terrific visual of spring training. The Twins complex is really nice. All within a very short walk of each other.
3. My point is that even someone like Buscher could come up and contribute to a team when the team is pretty well set. Last year, so many came up together that it was really a tough situation. I hope that all four of those guys have a higher ceiling (those four would be ready to come up and contribute now... I wasn't referring to the Sano's and Rosario's).
4. This week, Chrissy Scaffidi begins her new gig as the Director of Media Relations and Customer Relations for the Beloit Snappers. She is replacing Justin Waters who has done the job the last couple of years. Scaffidi worked in the front office of the Green Bay Packers this past season. She went to school in New York and while there, she worked with the Rochester Red Wings. In other words, it is a return to the Twins organization for her. Early in the offseason, Snappers GM Jeff Vohs resigned to take another job in the community. He was replaced as GM by Matt Bosen. Scaffidi will likely be kept busy during her first season in Beloit as the team should be comprised of several top prospects including Miguel Sano, Eddie Rosario, Levi Michael, Max Kepler, Tim Shibuya, Madison Boer, Matt Summers, Corey Williams and eventually Niko Goodrum.
5. Alex Margulies has been the play by play man for the Ft. Myers Miracle the past two seasons. He announced today that he has accepted a position as Director of Broadcasting for the Modesto Nuts in the California League. It is a return to the west coast for him. Alex did an incredible job with the multi-media ventures of the Miracle which includes an app for mobile phones and the Miracle Insider Show that appeared twice a month on You Tube. He was an occasional guest on podcasts with me and did a great job. He will be replaced with the Miracle by Brice Zimmerman who joined him in the booth last year and was very active in the multi-media efforts. Best wishes to Alex out west and to Brice for his promotion!
6. I won't be able to make it this year, so hopefully again next year. Going to minor league camp, even just for a day+ was awesome! Oh, and big league camp is cool too!
7. Well said, Dread... People forget that Torii acknowledged later that he was completely wrong.
8. My definition of prospect generally is anyone who still would be considered a rookie in MLB. So, by that Osterbrock is a prospect for sure. He's going to need impeccable control if he hopes to succeed in AA, AAA or the Bigs because of his lack of velocity. It will be interesting to see how he is able to come back from injury last year. when I saw Lance Ray last year for a weekend series, he was on the ball with every at bat, ripping doubles off the wall and an HR to the opposite field. He does have a very nice swing. I like Javier Pimentel. Like Sano, I think he'll be a little big for SS, but he seems strong. Some of those arms appear to have some ceiling, so hopefully a couple of them come ot the States for the EST and GCL.
9. I think it's great, Tony!! Letting us live vicariously through your experiences as a minor leaguer!! It should be fun to follow the season with you!
10. I'm with you... as excited as I am about the Twins season, I'm also really excited to see which prospects play well in 2012 and which jump up the rankings! I think Giolito would instantly jump to #2 on a Twins prospect list, behind only Sano.
11. I think this is a fair question to ask. Personally, I feel little concern about Span. That is to say, I'm not concerned about him heading into the season. I am in the same place with Span this spring as I was with Morneau last season. I wasn't worried at all... and we know whow well MOrneau performed last year. So, we don't know how healthy he is,a nd it's fair to be concerned. His overall numbers looked pretty mediocre last year, but before the injury, he was played tremendously well. Then when he came back, he went something like 1-31 and that really hurt those overall numbers.
12. Yes, yes it is... and I'm jealous! I want to go again!!
13. We don't know if he's better. In fact, we don't know if he's even healthy. It has nothing to do with money because he's not getting a major league contract at this point. Isn't the Tigers payroll less this year than last year also? I was wrong last year, although if you recall, I did say I would bring back Crain, but I still believe in the philosophy.
14. I would guess that Nishioka makes the roster... but it's the same thing as the Butera situation. You've got guys who can get you through a game at SS (Plouffe, Casilla, etc.) and C (Doumit)... if there was an injury, you could get Dozier or Florimon or Nishioka to the Twins the next day, or you could get Butera or Rivera or Towles the next day. I'd rather fill the bench with someone useful. Maybe a big pinch-hitting option or something (not that they have options... Burroughs? Pearce?)
15. I know Gardy doesn't like to do it, but Casilla could shift over to SS with Hughes or someone going to 2B.
16. Jack... Burton is a BUM... Zumaya is an injury risk... yet Michael Wuertz is a guarantee to stabilize the bullpen??

18. We’ve been patient, at least as patient as we can. But it is really difficult. I mean, the last time we saw the Minnesota Twins play was September 28, 2011. What a game it was. Twins starter Carl Pavano threw nine shutout innings against the Kansas City Royals. Bruce Chen tossed eight scoreless at the Twins. Thankfully, the Royals brought reliever Blake Wood into the game, and you all remember, Trevor Plouffe lined a single that scored Denard Span and gave the Twins the win. That win came 143 days ago! 143 days! That’s almost five full months. Simply… that’s far too long to go without watching or favorite team. Since that day, the Twins lost several players including Michael Cuddyer, Jason Kubel, Joe Nathan, Jason Repko, Matt Tolbert and more. Jim Pohlad also decided to relieve Bill Smith of his GM duties and replace him with an old friend, Terry Ryan. Ryan has added free agents Josh Willingham, Jamey Carroll, Ryan Doumit, Jason Marquis, Joel Zumaya and a boat load of strong-armed minor league free agents. We have celebrated Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. Many of us had the opportunity to start getting prepped for the 2012 season by attending a Twins Caravan. Then many of us met at the Metrodome for Twins Fest. The last three weeks have been difficult. We’re all ready for things to get started. And this morning, we can finally say the four words that mean so much to baseball fans. Sure, many in the world want to talk about the Three Little Words that get uttered on Valentine’s Day. But for a baseball fan, no four words are more exciting than “Pitchers and Catchers Report.” This morning in Ft. Myers, Twins pitchers and catchers will report to Hammond Stadium in Ft. Myers. They won’t hold a full workout. That will happen on Sunday. Last night, Twins Director of Communications tweeted that “33 pitchers and catchers are ready to report in Ft. Myers tomorrow. (This) includes 11 non-roster pitchers and 5 non-roster catchers.” The other 25 position players will report in just a few days. Spring Training games begin in less than two weeks. Spring Training is about a fresh start. The sounds of baseball. The pop of catchers’ mitts. The encouraging shouts of coaches. The opportunity for a new beginning. Hope. Joy. Optimism. All great words. All appropriate today because of those four special words that baseball fans wait for all winter: Pitchers and Catchers Report! Any thoughts? 20. I don't know what you guys do. I just save an image to my desktop, then insert the file. That has worked.
21. When he was in the minors, I would get beat up in comments and such for saying that "if Revere has a career near what Juan Pierre has had, Twins fans should be thrilled.' I agree with that. I do think that his value offensively will primarily be determined by his BA. I hope he hits that ball on a line more often going forward, and I think he will, and that some of those line drives can find gaps because he could rack up some doubles and triples and eventually he'll get one of those inside-the-park HR that he tried to get last year! John's right about Pierre being very valuable... until he became a free agent. I say that for the obvious reason, that he got paid too much. But also because when the biggest attribute a player has is his speed, that's going to disappear pretty quickly after 30/after free agency. So he didn't cover quite as much ground in the OF, making his arm more of a liability. He didn't get quite as many infield hits. His SB% dropped. And now he's a Phillies backup OF where, at minimum (or so) wage, he'll provide a little bit of value. Revere gives the Twins a ton of value with his range in the OF and what he can make happen on the basepaths, assuming he gets on base more. He'll be an asset until a year or two into arbitration.
22. Hard-throwing lefty... soft-tossing righty... it can be hard to differentiate!!
23. He has to do two things to get a shot in 2011 with the Twins... 1.) He has to stay healthy. That was an issue last year. 2.) he has to throw more strikes. Too many walks.
