  3. Brad, I'd also encourage you to have links back to your blog in your stories.
  4. Yeah, when my wife first suggested a "couples shower" I was 100% on board, but it turns out that it is an entirely different kind of shower. I'm pretty sure they've been invented simply to extend a dreadful tradition which most women hate to my gender. My condolences.
  5. You forgot the part where, as Diamond returned to the dugout after being pulled in the fifth, Anderson wailed "Not you too Scott! Why? WHY?!" and ran away weeping until Scotty Ulger brought some cold post-game dinner to his room.
  6. It looks like Seth has opened this thread. Let the adoptions begin!

  8. According to Phil Miller, the Star-Tribune's Minnesota Twins beat reporter, Oswaldo Arcia will be called up on Monday to fill-in for Wilkin Ramirez, who will go on paternity leave. Twins Daily ranks Arcia as the #4 prospect in the Twins system, is only 21 years old and is currently hitting .414 with a .793(!) slugging percentage in Rochester. According to Miller, he will be the youngest player to debut for the Twins since Joe Mauer. How much playing time he'll have remains to be seen. Ramirez is a bench bat, but the Twins are unlikely to be calling up Arcia to sit on the bench. He has played mostly right field for the last two years, but Chris Parmelee is relatively young and healthy and also hits left-handed, like Arcia. The other corner outfield, Josh Willingham is a veteran who hit 35 home runs last year. It seems most likely Arcia will serve in one of those spots or as designated hitter, and the positions will rotate, giving Parmelee, Willingham, Joe Mauer, Ryan Doumit or Justin Morneau some time off. It's also unclear how long he will remain with the team. Ramirez should only be gone for a few games. For Arcia to remain much longer would require an injury, some serious roster re-shuffling or a change in position. Last year in AA-New Britain, Arcia did play 10 games in center field and played their full time in rookie league. His move to a corner spot supposedly had more to do with the organization's depth than his inability to play the position. So the Twins could try for a game in center field. If he can handle the position defensively, it might make things interesting for the Twins. Current center fielder Aaron Hicks has struggled from the left side of the plate in the past and has just two hits and two walks versus 17 strikeouts from that side this year. The Twins could platoon the two as they learn the ropes their rookie years.
  9. First, please keep in mind that this is a hyper-sensitive subject. That doesn't mean we shouldn't talk about it. But if you don't think you can keep a respectful tone, if you find your emotions running high, please think twice before you post. My sense is that baseball is less "white" than it's been for years with all the latin players that are in the big leagues. Does anyone have any statistics on that? The question that everyone seems to be wrestling with, but nobody is stating, is whether baseball has factors in place that discourage African-Americans from playing baseball? And if so, what are they? One concern is that maybe baseball is too expensive with traveling teams and such. Or, do African-Americans just find inspiration in a different area or sport? Perhaps this isn't so much a problem of baseball integrating as baseball just no reaching people the way it used to.
  10. Well, I'm surprised. No, Hendriks has not put everything together at MLB, but Hernandez hasn't really put things together at AAA. It's not an egregiously bad move, but I was surprised. Especially after Hernandez was used in the game last night. Here's the thing - immediately after Hernandez' first game in the postgame interview, Gardy hinted that Pedro was going to be the one to be sent down. So either Gardy didn't understand the rest of the organizations' thoughts on that or Hendrick's second game somehow swung the balance. That doesn't seem like a particularly wise reaction.
  11. Chris Jaffe of the Hardball Times researched something that Bert Blyleven talked about the other day on FSN.... Bert not only charged the mound, he did so with a bat? There must be some news accounts of this, right? Bert Blyleven tracer
  12. That that's where the hope is?

  14. Happy Opening Day! Again! Today is Opening Day for the Cedar Rapid Kernels, which explains the site takeover today (Thurs). This year, Twins Daily and the Kernels will partner to promote each other to midwest-based Minnesota Twins fans. Seth Stohs will be in Cedar Rapids this week to cover their season kickoff and Jim Crikket will provide us with weekly updates on the ballclub. Also, Twins Daily will sponsor the Twins Organizational Report and Twins Highlight Segment, shown on the Kernels new scoreboard before every game. Listen for us on the radio broadcast, too. Cedar Rapids is just four hours from the Twin Cities, and as the new Twins Low-A affiliate, they'll likely feature several of the Twins top prospects this year. It's an affordable way to see players like Byron Buxton and Jose Berrios up-close before they become MLB All-Stars. (editors note: knocking furiously on wood.) We think it's a match made in heaven (or Iowa) and hope the rest of the Twins Daily community thinks so too. Please join me in welcoming the Kernels to Twins Territory and to Twins Daily.
  15. The Twins bats were shut down again last night, this time by the Pirates pitching staff. Which Liriano do you expect to see tonight against the struggling Pirates offense? Which Twins bat do you expect to come through tonight, if any? And when did the Pirates get good? 17. Interesting. This gives me a little hope that what we're seeing isn't a mirage.

  19. Update: We're LIVE! (cue sappy Eyes of an Angel music) Every year, dozens of Twins prospect toil away in relative obscurity asking for nothing more than a little recognition. You can make their dream come true. With "Adopt a Prospect" you pick one prospect, and you'll be the only one that can adopt that player. They belong to YOU. [PRBREAK][/PRBREAK] Best of all, it's not going to cost you 80 cents a day. Instead, on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, you check in on them, find out how they're doing, and proclaim their successes to the world on our Adopt a Prospect Forum. Imagine the joy on their face - and those of their parents - when they see that their hard work is recognized. You can make that dream come true. Just stop by the Adopt A Prospect Forum any time after 10:00 on Monday and sign up. Do it for the kids.
  20. Starting at 10AM CST on Monday 4/23, you can adopt a Twins prospect in this thread. Just put down the players name and submit it and THEN CHECK TO MAKE SURE NOBODY POSTED THAT NAME BEFORE YOU. If someone has, you didn't get that player, but it's not big deal - just submit another post with someone else's name - and then make sure nobody posted THAT name before you. Lather, rinse and repeat until you get a name that nobody else did. Once you reserve a name, you can start a thread. Just title the thread the name of the prospect like "Miguel Sano." First post must be an introduction of the player. The format of the post is up to the individual, but please be sure to get all the important information needed on the player. For Example, Name, Position, Handedness, Drafted/Signed/Acquired (out of where/what round), Previous Stats, etc. Feel free to make it as detailed as you want. (There are a lot of websites you could link to such as their Baseball-Reference, The Baseball Cube, First Inning, Fan Graphs, etc.) Ready, set, go....
  21. (Note, there have been a couple of small updates to the Rules of Adopt-A-Prospect for 2013. Edited 4/15/2013.) Rules of Adopt-A-Prospect: 1) Twins Daily members can only ‘adopt’ ONE prospect at this time. Each Twins prospect can only be adopted once. It will be first-come, first-serve in a new thread here that will be opened at 10:00 a.m. CST on Tuesday morning. (There may be a second adoption between the MLB draft and the start of the short-season leagues.) 2) Once you have confirmed that you have that player, you can post a thread. The title of the thread you start should just be that player's name. First post must be an introduction of the player. The format of the post is up to the individual, but please be sure to get all the important information needed on the player. For Example, Name, Position, Handedness, Drafted/Signed/Acquired (out of where/what round), Previous Stats, etc. Feel free to make it as detailed as you want. (There are a lot of websites you could link to such as their Baseball-Reference, The Baseball Cube, First Inning, Fan Graphs, MiLB.com, affiliate’s websites, etc.) 3) After the initial post (and throughout the season), you MUST update the thread AT LEAST once every week. If you fail to do this, the prospect can be taken away from you. [if a player is inactive due to injury or suspension, this requirement is waived as appropriate.] If you would like to update more often, please feel free. Updates should, at least, include Year-To-Date numbers for the player. The more information given, however, the better. Brag up your prospect! 4) Any major event (i.e. Promotion/Demotion/Trade/Perfect Game/4 HRs in one game...) must be reflected in the thread within a day of the event. Failure to update for this purpose may result in losing your adoptee. 5) Threads will be closed one week after a prospect has been traded out of the organization. However, if the player is traded back to the Twins (for some reason), the member who had the prospect will have the option to regain the prospect. 6) If a player is placed on the 25-man roster, this is wonderful news and you can continue that player’s thread. Reward for your player getting to the big leagues is that you can adopt a second prospect at that point. Even if the first player is eventually sent back to the minor leagues, you can maintain both prospect threads. 7) All other rules which are enforced on the main board will be enforced here.
  22. I suspect Gardy planned on starting Burroughs at 3b today long before yesterday's game, but the timing couldn't be much better.
