1. Bad 2nd inning for May...bah!
2. Stewart/Boldt, good combo! Hopefully we are right. As a current Houstonian if the Astros get Bryant/Manaea people would freak out. Bold guess. I like it!
3. BA released their third mock and once again they have the Twins taking Stewart. Here is what they had to say: If Minnesota can’t get one of the big three, it will take Texas high school righthander Kohl Stewart. If Stewart’s price tag scares the Twins—he’s a Texas A&M quarterback recruit, though I can’t see him turning down top-10-pick money—they could go in the other direction and save cash for later by taking a discount with Washington prep catcher Reese McGuire. Indiana high school lefty Trey Ball and Moran are two more fallback plans. Mock Draft 3.0: Holding Pattern - BaseballAmerica.com
4. Gray- 9 innings pitched, 9 hits, 2 ER, 11/1 K/BB ratio vs Coastal Carolina. Hursh- 4.1 innings, 7 hits, 3 ER, 2/2 K/BB ratio vs Miami
5. You can guess any picks! Those were just the first ones I did. I plan to do a few other picks in round one and try to guess the Twins top 5 picks. I just need to do a little more research. By the way, nice pick of Reed at 43. I was thinking about him at 43 before I picked Boldt.
6. As a Twins fan I hope you are right about Gray. As a betting man challenge accepted.
7. Bleacher Report had another mock today with this one rt throwing a change up. They have the Twins taking Frazier at #4. The “five-tool player” label is used far too often when referring to MLB prospects, but Clint Frazier deserves the distinction. The 6’1”, 190-pound outfielder needs some time to grow—both physically and as a baseball player—but the Twins are known for that kind of development with their early round prospects. He may not be ready for the bigs in the next two years, but he’ll be a tremendous player when he is. 8. While Mike Newman works for fangraps and not BA he also had a chat today. Here are the Twin questions:
Alex Meyer’s numbers – go/ao, 2 HR allowed, 63K/54.2IP, are fairly eye popping. If he can get his BB rate down to a more acceptable level, are we looking at a potentially dominating pitcher?

12:53 Mike Newman: The stuff is there for him to be a 2/3 starter, but command/control is always the question. It’s great to dream on pure stuff, but he still needs to refine some. One can’t say a pitcher will dominate until this happens.

Are the Twins hurting or helping Aaron Hicks by keeping him at the ML level?

12:59 Mike Newman: At this point, yes. For the month, he has a .738 OPS. and a .815 OPS in his last ten. There’s really reason to demote him for a miserable April.

Has Buxton’s fast start and demonstration of present baseball skill caused you to revisit your opinion that Buxton will take a while to reach the majors?

1:11 Mike Newman: He’ll take awhile still, but his timetable has definitely accelerated in my mind.

Is Max Scherzer a good comp for Trevor May if everything breaks right and he lives up to his potential? Or am I dreaming…

1:17 Mike Newman: No. Trevor May isn’t anywhere near as good.
9. From Ben Badler's chats today: What % chance do you think Sano has of sticking at 3B? How about Eddie Rosario at 2B? Thanks! Ben Badler: Sano has the tools to stay there, he's just such an enormous human being already that you have to wonder how much range he's going to have if he puts on more weight. What's crazy is he's a pretty good athlete for someone his size, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt to be able to stay at the position. Who has a higher ceiling? Robert Stephenson or Alex Meyer? Ben Badler: Meyer, but it's not a big gap. There's top of the rotation potential with both. Buxton or Sano? Ben Badler: Buxton. He might be the best prospect in baseball by the end of the year. Can J.O. Berrios be a successful MLB starter, or does his height doom him to the bullpen? Ben Badler: I've never subscribed to the idea that a pitcher isn't tall enough to be a starter. There's no reason his height should limit him to a relief role.
10. I'm pretty sure I noted Bryant would be the BPA for me. How is that lazy? That's accurate.
11. Bleacher Report has an amazing article comparing HS pitchers vs college pitchers in the first round. Must read article! 2013 MLB Draft: Are High School or College Arms the Better 1st-Round Risk? | Bleacher Report
12. Always take BPA and while I don't know who it is on the Twins actual board, I do on mine. Bryant.
13. The 8th BA installment of prospect hot sheet was released today and had only one Twin on it. Making his first appearance, which actually surprised me, is Mr.Rosario, Eddie. Here is what they had to say: In his first season spent exclusively at second base, Rosario has shown a wide array of skills that could make him a future above-average regular at the position. He’s hitting .328/.367/.508 through 177 at-bats, ranking third in the Florida State League batting race and third with 34 runs scored. Rosario and Miguel Sano are the driving forces behind the Miracle’s FSL-leading .353 on-base and .444 slugging percentages. Ben Badler is doing a chat at 2 today and like always, I will get all the Twins questions up afterwards. One think of note, no Twin has landed on the Not so Hot section a single time this year.
14. I guess I will start with my personal guesses: Top 10 1. Gray 2. Appel 3. Bryant 4. Stewart 5. Moran 6. Shipley 7. Frazier 8. Ball 9. McGuire 10.Crawford Twins second round pick, #43, will be Boldt. I will add more as it gets closer.
15. The draft is officially 6 days away and the Twins front office is busy working on their draft board. Who will they take? How the hell would I know? I can guess and so can you! In the upcoming draft the Twins will have the following picks at these specific pick values: #4 - $4,544,400 #43 - $1,294,100 #78 - $703,000 #110 - $468,200 #140 - $350,500 #170 - $262,500 #200 - $196,600 #230 - $158,600 #260 - $148,100 #290 - $138,400 Total - $8,264,400 This isn't a post about who YOU want the Twins to take or who YOU would be disappointed with if they took. This isn't a post about YOUR preference of Need vs BPA. This isn't a post about how YOU hope the Astros take Moran. This isn't a post for debating experts draft boards, or experts mocks, or if Lady Gaga is actually a dude. Lord knows we have enough of these already. This is a post about who YOU think will be drafted and where, Twins pick or not. Choose one name and stick with it. The challenge is to have the balls, chesticles for you ladies, to post your guesses. Make a guess and claim it. Put a ring on it. Mark your territory by peeing on it. Or whatever. Why? Well, while drafts are exciting to talk about in reality they are really boring to watch. Just like betting on nipple slips during the Super Bowl or when Ryan Seacrest is finally going to lose it and choke an idol to death, they help make it more entertaining. Educated or not, no one has a freaking idea how the draft is going to play out so why not have a little fun?
16. Wow, that's a ton of great info! Only 6 more days to go and the Twins will have several whiney new toys.
17. Two more updates. Today Mayo released his second mock draft and he too now has the Twins taking Stewart. Here is what he had to say: "The Twins have liked Stewart's power right arm all along and will have a comfort level that they can sign him away from Texas A&M football before he commits." Link below: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130530&content_id=48991342&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb The second article isn't a mock but a study of 27 mocks (not including Mayo/Law's today). It shows the median, mode, worst, best, and average of the players taken in the top 10. Very interesting read. Link below: 85% Sports Mock Draft Value Board - A Different Approach - Minor League Ball
18. Haha, agreed! I have him #1 on my board. Image Meyers/Gray, two guys that can hit 100, pitching back to back is sexy.
19. It is a very interesting situation. I personal prefer Gray but wouldn't be upset if they actually went Stewart. I don't care if a guy is a HS pitcher or a college pitcher. If this ended up being the case I would support the scouts on their choice.
20. I don't know if this helps, doubt it does, but I currently live in Houston and I have seen him live. He went 7 innings, K'd 10, and gave up no ERs. I know nothing about scouting but there were a ton of scouts there when I went. I over heard several say he hit 97 at least once that day. He passed the eye test for me. Regarding fastball movement here is what Law had to say: "His fastball is consistently 92-94, touching 97, with good downhill plane and some boring life to his arm side." He gives him 50, average scouting grade, for future and present fastball movement. As for his off speed pitch it is considered the worst out of his 4 pitches but it still got a 50 grade by low. Law had this to say about the pitch: "He also has a a straight change at 83-85 with solid arm speed but little action." I have no idea who has actually gone to talk to Stewart in his living room about his commitment to A&M but I can promise you the Twins will know before they draft him at #4. I don't know if you actually wanted someone to answer these or you were being sarcastic. If you did I hope that helps. If you were being sarcastic, I guess I lose the internet. I do agree they should take whomever, regardless of position, is atop their draft board.
21. While Gibson has had several clunkers he has also had several gems. He will never be an ace but I don't see why he can't be a solid big league pitcher, much less throw over 326 innings.
22. Nice first game for Buxton. 2-3 with a walk and a SB. He was caught stealing though. BA back to almost .340.
23. SI released their second mock draft today and it is....well just as interesting as it's first mock. Bryant going #1 to the Astros and the Twins taking Frazier at #4. Link below: Mock Draft: Bryant, Gray, Appel still in running for top pick - MLB - SI.com
24. Seriously, does it always rain in Cedar Rapids? These delays/postponements are getting ridiculous.
25. Personally the main question I have about taking McGuire isn't his overall talent level, kid is a top 10 prospect in the draft, but the depth of the draft. I just don't see a lot of over slot guys worthy of extra money later on in the draft.
