  1. I have always liked Span, but agree with the idea that any player can be traded. Span is a "pretty good" player who fits in nicely in a sports market that always seems happy with "pretty good". I don't see Span A as the menacing lead off hitter/base stealer on a Championship team or a Gold Glove center fielder. A's a pretty good player with a team friendly contract, he might bring back a valuable championship piece.
  2. Drew Butera need not to be "dreaded". Carrying three catchers makes sense, IF the three are used correctly. Should Butera be leading off and asked to steal 40 bases? No. Can Butera serve as a defensive replacement for Doumit late in a one run game? Yes. Can Butera spell Mauer in a lopsided contest? Yes. Should Butera be limited to 3-5 ABs/week? Yes. Is this a reasonable way to keep both Mauer and Doumit's bats in the lineup? Yes! Is there any useful purpose to carrying 13 pitchers? NO NO NO! (or 12, or 11). Any criticism of the roster should be directed at Gardenhire and Ryan. Please give Butera a break!
  3. It's called hyperbole. Like Casey always said, "You can look it up". Do you and Mauer share the same bicycle lock?
  4. Amen! When are the Twins going to find a pitcher with the guts to knock a guy down once in a while? I'm in 100% agreement with you brother! Best post I've read at Twins Daily!
  5. Furthermore, I notice that you employ sarcasm as a literary device in your posts, but evidently are unable to recognize it in the posts of others. Perhaps some of the time used in your exhaustive research might be better used reading posts a second or third time before name calling or belittling others. Have a great day!
  6. CDOG: Don't care to be called a liar. Don't care for your smug implication that I "pretend to know" something. Don't care to do exhaustive research. Expressing my opinion, no more, no less. Please learn some manners or exercise some common courtesy.
  7. Your use of statistics is impressive, but you forgot some key numbers in which the Twins manage to lead the league EVERY yeay: 6-4-3 4-6-3 5-4-3 3-6-3 Until Mauer changes the combinmation on his bicycle lock, or learns to bunt, the Twins will never be a serious offensive threat. Gardenhire could help by sending the runner(s) on base, with Mauer batting, more often
  8. You're "glad" the Twins aren't paying for an Ace? Is it YOUR money? The Pohlads raise ticket prices after a 99 loss season. I don't CARE how much it takes to buy a winner, just DO it!! Have you ever heard a Yankee fan complain that their 27 World Series titles cost TOO MUCH money?
  9. John, I'm new to this and Ive respected your posts until reading this one. This team is NOT close. At best, this team is ANNOYING in that on a good day, they may string enough hits to beat a real team. This team has three very good full time players and no good pitchers. Thinking that Liriano could "Straighten out" is like thinking that (insert absurd comparison here).
  10. Whose money am I supposed to be worried about wasting?? I want to see the Twins win games!! Using your reasoning, aren't the Twins also "wasting" money on Mauer and Morneau?? I would enjoy seeing more wins and hearing fewer excuses. Whatever an Ace costs, the Twins will never be a hood team without one. The Pohlads have plenty of money.
  11. Can't stand carrying 13 pitchers. The two times we won a World Series, we carried 10 pitchers.
  12. Striking out looking drives me nuts. Who does he think he is, Corey Koskie?
  13. Three lefties in the pen is one more than we need. How about asking the three of them who might like to start? What does a team planning to lose 100 games need three lefty relievers to do?
  14. Not interested in media outlets. The Morneau excuses sound a lot like "bilateral leg weakness". When you come to Las Vegas, bring money. Plenty of opportunities to make legal wagers.
  15. 1. Revere LF 2. Mauer C 3. Span CF 4. Morneau 1B 5. Willingham DH 6. Parmlee RF 7. Burroughs 3B 8. Casilla 2B 9. Carroll SS If Morneau is healthy enough to DH, he's healthy enough to play 1st base. What is the virtue of getting 600 at bats on a team that loses 120 games? Willingham is a defensive liability. Valencia just isn't getting it. 12 similarly non skilled pitchers is too many.
  16. Agree that the 2011 and 2012 Twins are not talented, but what about the 2006 Twins team, which had a Cy Young Winner, a batting title and an MVP, but failed to win a playoff game? Gardenhire does NOT get the most from his players. Try somebody else.
  17. This team lacks a clubhouse leader. It's time for the home town boy with the huge contract to call his own press conference and seperate himself from both Ryan and Gardenhire. He's more valuable than the two of them put together. It should sound something like, "The Twins are paying me x dollars. I'm planning to catch 120 games and hit .330. When I'm not catching, I'll DH or play 1B. I'm challenging my teammates to play up to their full potential. We need to pitch, field and hit better than we demonstrated last year. We should win 95 games and our division. If our current roster doesn't win, players should be gone and new players should arrive. Nobody in the clubhouse should be looking to the manager or General Manager to offer excuses. We're all supposed to be professionals. It's time to start playing like professionals and win games". Who cares if they can't finish above .500? Isn't it way past time for Mauer to grab the reigns and show some (any) leadership?
  18. Thank you! Mauer should bat #2! His bat is more valuable than his defense. I would love to see him in the 2 hole 162 times this year, regardless of what position he plays.
  19. Respectively disagree. Baseball is situational. There are examples in any inning where a sacrifice is correct. It depends on several factors, the most important of which is the score. You only need to win by ONE run. I've never heard any of these stat geeks acknowledge that simple fact. Everything about baseball strategy works out better when your team is AHEAD. Get ahead, then grind it out. You don't need three run homers to grind it out.
  20. Until the Twins acquire an Ace to anchor the starting staff, none of this Dozier/Parmalee/Hughes stuff is worth debating. It won't matter if the other team averages 6 runs/game.
  21. Agree completely about Pavano and Blackburn. If a winning team consists of 25 interlocking parts, the most glaring part the Twins are missing is an Ace. Without at least one dominant starter, the Twins will forever remain unable to match up against strong competition.
  22. An 8 man bullpen with 4 righties that can't get any outs? The Twins are sitting on a powder keg.
  23. Gardenhire had a Cy Young, an MVP, and a Batting Title on the same team and failed to win a playoff game. Can we please drop the "Minnesota Nice" b.s. and hire a real manager?
