  1. Congrats to Humber. He wont forget April 21, 2012... that is for sure. When he was exiled from the Twin's organization it seemed like a no brainer. Last year, his first with the ChiSox, I was surprised by his first half success. His 2nd half confirmed to me that his 1st half was an abberation. 2012: We miss you Humber, please come back... you can be the Twins Ace if you like... Please!!! In all seriousness, the only Twins cast off that I can remember that erks me at this moment is JJ Hardy. I was amped when we acquired him for Carlos Gomez. If not for that damn wrist injury, I think we would have traded Delmon instead of JJ (wishful thinking). Ugghh...
  2. No loss is easy to swallow, but we got beat fair and square tonight. Shields was awesome. The Hometowners need to take it in the jaw and make it personal tomorrow.
  3. This is all banter for fun - not to be taken seriously. I agree with you that Parmelee should play almost everyday. Right now, I think he is playing enough, but the Twins are treading a fine line right now with his playing time. He will be sent down if they take this any further with Thomas' playing time along with other 1B options. My problem is the following: - The pitching stinks and will stink for the foreseeable future. Thus making this season a non contending one - In the event of these kind of seasons, doesn't it make more sense to get the young positive projectable players MLB experience to speed up the rebuilding process and their development - It is important to keep the fans interested, but most who like baseball will invest their time whether the teams sucks or is a contender - I feel like the front office does not know how to be honest with the fans. Willingham, Carroll, Marquis and the countless less than average relievers they signed was unnecessary for the most part... a smoke screen. Rebuilding teams need to fill spots, but I am not sure the Willingham and Carroll signing were needed because we have Benson, Dozier and a few others who could have filled these roles and learned on the fly. Rebuilding can be painful, but putting young players in starting spots can expediate the process
  4. Thomas can play all 3 OF positions very well and has a good arm. He can also be viable offensively in certain situations. Benson would fit that same bill, but unlike Parmelee, Benson can use a little more time in the minors and has a high upside, unlike Clete Thomas.
  5. I get it. You was thinks was Parmelee stinks. I was not trying to was offend you. Point was taken was.
  6. Parmelee was voted the best defensive 1B in the Eastern League last season.
  7. It would be hard for me to believe that there is a strained relationship between the Dynamic Duo of Epstein-Hoyer and Ben Cherrington. Maybe Lucchino could present some problems, but overall I think the lines of communication are unobstructed as it was the past with Epstein's Red Sox and Hoyer's Padres.
  8. I hope you are right. Having Bowden in our bullpen would make me beyond pleased.
  9. In regards to this portion of John's question: I think it is too early to tell. The fact that this is on most Twins Fans minds is pretty revealing. Gardy suffers from some kind of Valentine's Syndrome for certain players. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this is not the case this time.
  10. I understand the whole "Parmelee needs more time in the minors argument". The truth of the matter is that he has done nothing on the field to indicate that course of action. Parmelee is 24 with 6 years in the Minors and he is MLB ready. At the end of the year baseball fans will be impressed with his stat line and he will get some ROY votes. I feel very confident I will not Eat Crow on this statement.
  11. I agree with John that Parmelee is getting screwed. Parmelee needs to get the reps in RF as 1B may not be his for a couple years or more. No offense to Clete, but Parmelee is the better option... now and for a good distance into the Twins Future.
  12. I choose Parmelee over Thomas. When Terry Ryan acquired Thomas through the waiver wire last weekend he mentioned something to the tune of Thomas projects as a good 4th Outfielder. If Morneau eventually works his way into being the almost everyday first baseman again. Wouldn't it make sense to have Parmelee get a fair amount of action in RF? At this juncture in time he has done nothing to convince me that he needs more "seasoning". I really think he adds an element of offensive fear to our line-up and RF is where he is going to have to play if Morneau is in the field. I like Thomas, he can play all 3 OF positions, he has a nice arm, he has some pop, but is very susceptible to LH pitchers - but he is what TR calls him... a 4th Outfielder.
  13. According to MLBTR, it appears the Red Sox and Cubs are close to a trade involving Marlon Byrd with Bowden in play in their discussions.
  14. Butera will be much, much, much, much worse of a hitter than Burroughs. It's like comparing Toby Gardenhire to Miguel Cabrera... much worse!
  15. If you cannot hit .230 or above as a position player - NO GO! This is not Earl Weaver's 1970's The game of Major League Baseball cannot be inhibited by great field/no hit baseball players anymore. The game has changed. Offense needs to be tied to the fielding attributes of a position player as defense needs to be tied to an offensive player's hitting prowess, unless you are a DH. Mark Belanger is a relic of history, not an example of modern Major League Baseball.
  16. It has started bad enough, especially with an awful starting rotation. I will only list the valid relieversDuensing: Sufficient Perkins: Awful so far, but hopeful. Burnett: Very good so far, not so sure this is truth Capps: his stats indicate what he is.... not good.... not great.... not bad
  17. No, that was 2nd base, but point taken. Our 3B situation is sort of a bummer.
  18. Thank you Father Christmas. Me is glad you is not want Drew play lots. Me as Twins fan need to get over last years poopy. Me want see good things happen. If Drew come plate want pinch hitter no one left on bench maybe Marquis will hit and we throw bucket behind home plate to catch pitches. Bucket is good hit I hear!
  19. If Mark Trumbo can play 3B... sort of, why not see if Parmelee can? Maybe we can trade Valencia for 1920-30-ish Pie Traynor? All of this is realistic, right? Maybe we can wait 2-3 years for Sano.
  20. The somewhat ho-hum comments by Seth on Guerra are discouraging. That means we have no reinforcement relief pitchers from the minors that are more than an Elmer's Glue sealant on open blisters on fingertips. That sucks. I hope Seth is wrong.
  21. John, if you were to replace Valencia as the 3rd baseman, I'd be damn happy.
  22. 5 games in and this road trip has already surpassed mine and I am sure most Twins fan's expectations. Without the jacks, Liam looked pretty good tonight. His control was somewhat off, but he attacks it. He pitches fearlessly and intelligently. I like what I see and I hope to see some more with better results. Hendricks, as we all know will not miss a lot of bats, but he has something we have not had in a few years - a pitch to contact pitcher who is not afraid to attack the strike zone and for the most part he has been damn effective, more so without the long balls. Not lost in this shuffle is the fact that he has the best stuff on our current starting staff this side of Liriano. Cudos to Beef Willingham and his game winning 3 run double and 14 game hitting streak. We know, in the long run, you won't hit .300, but here is to hoping for 30HR's and 100 RBI's. This road trip is already a victory, if we can win one more, it can be a THRILLING victory, but that's it. The offense is gaining momentum and that will win some games or at least make them interesting. Our pitching is our achilles heel and that won't change. 75+ wins... Maybe. 81+ wins... unlikely, but it could be fun to watch!

  24. It would have been nice to see if Hughes could have gotten his bat going with some semi-regular playing time. That being said he never forced the issue to justify that result because of his not so excellent defense. I agree with most that some MLB team will take flyer on him and claim him off waivers. My prediction for Hughes in the next year is that he washes out in the Majors and signs with a team in Japan and becomes an All-Star type hitter in the Nippon League.
  25. Hey Twins Fan from Afar. Deolis Guerra's stats look good so far this season although it is a very, very small sample size. What is your over/under on him being called up to the big club before September? Not that September is a guarantee for him.
