  1. I'm not even half-working. I'm on the second to last day of a contract over here and my day has consisted of sitting around, waiting for the client to send me revisions. They haven't sent me even one email today. I did five minutes of work this morning. I've been here for going on eight hours now.
  2. BB-Ref is down on Upton/Victorino compared to FG. I agree that both are decent players but Upton's inability to get on base is a huge concern for me. While if Mauer stays healthy, he'll be back behind the plate more often in 2013 (Ryan has said as much). That means his value may actually rise in the coming two years. His decline is certainly a concern from 2015-2018, though.
  3. This is where we're disagreeing and this changes the entire argument based on perspective. I think Dempster gets three years and Marcum gets four. I don't see anybody outside of scrubs getting two year deals this offseason. As for trading either of them in a year or two, that is definitely something to consider.
  4. I'd put Diamond and Worley pretty close to one another in the AL on the same team with the slight nod going to Worley. What I find interesting is Worley's HR/9 rate in Philly (0.8 in 2012, 0.7 in 2011 & 2010). Will he give up a homerun in Target Field? That bodes well if the Twins can get a decent infield defense behind him (not a great GB rate but not bad, either).
  5. He's brutal on defense. The price would have to be awfully low.
  6. Funny how it works that way, isn't it? The true fans are more excited than ever while casual fans are moping that we "lost" Smiley McGee. Still one more kick in the rear? That was aimed at casual fans, not Revere. I've seen dozens of comments today by casual fans lamenting the loss of a player that they just wanted to pick up and hug. Ben's a happy guy. Good for him. But, like strange women lyin' in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government, smile factor is no basis for running a baseball team.
  7. While I don't entirely disagree with much of your post, I want to focus on this. Dempster and Marcum will hamstring the payroll as bad or worse than Mauer and even when combined, equate to a similar amount of wins (Mauer is roughly a 5 win player, Marcum/Dempster combined are 5 win players). Both are older than Mauer and from 2013-2015 (not getting either for less than three years, probably more with Marcum), will be more expensive and declining more rapidly than Joe due to advanced age (mostly Dempster). To boot, to get both those guys, you're looking at paying at least $25m a year, probably more. Keeping Mauer is a risk. There's no denying that. But considering free agent salaries this offseason, Mauer's production per dollar is actually good compared to what these other clowns are getting on the market. It's absurd to think that BJ Upton is a $15m player or that Jeremy-freakin-Guthrie is an $8m guy. And just LOL at Shane Victorino at $13m. This offseason is bananas. If you even manage to get rid of Mauer, that $23m you spend to replace him is going to bring you less in return than Joe. With that said, I'm not against trading him if a team offers the farm for ol' Joe.
  8. I think you give Hicks a couple of months in AAA, get yourself a 7th year of team control, then let him sink or swim. This.
  9. Barring any acquisitions, my guess is second with Carroll slotting in first (unless Hicks grabs that spot).
  10. For what it's worth, the James projection thinks Worley's ERA should be about a half run better than Diamond's. I assume that projection was for the NL, not AL.
  11. Funny how it works that way, isn't it? The true fans are more excited than ever while casual fans are moping that we "lost" Smiley McGee.
  12. Defensively, park size isn't going to matter much. Any MLB park is big enough to strain the range of any outfielder. Revere is going to shut down CF in Citizen's Bank Park. Offensively, you have a point but Revere hits the ball on the ground A LOT. Park doesn't matter a lick at that point and I think facing inferior NL pitching will be more of an advantage than having a cavernous park in which to hit. Plus, he may actually hit a homerun in Philly. I don't think he'd ever do that at TF.
  13. The Twins absolutely have the money to do both. It's just unfortunate that the middle infield class is so weak this offseason.
  14. The Twins just picked up a legitimate Major League pitcher AND a solid pitching prospect for a guy who may be outplayed by Aaron Hicks in the coming season.
  15. I wouldn't. That's a decent top of the order, though it's definitely lacking speed.
  16. Given what we've seen in the past few weeks, I very much think the Twins will be getting $23m of production from Mauer. Guys like BJ Upton are getting $15m a year now. Jose Reyes goes from $10m to $22m in 2014. Greinke, a borderline #1 at best, looks to approach $20m a year. Sanchez, who isn't as good as Greinke, is asking for $16-17m. I'm perfectly content with Mauer at $23m, provided he doesn't completely break down. FWIW, you can add the 2012 WAR of Greinke AND Sanchez together and they're about the same value as Mauer by himself.
  17. While we're talking about apples, I discovered SweeTango apples awhile back. It changed my life.
  18. Compare that list to what the Twins had in May of this year. Then compare that list to what was there in May of 2009. Quite the difference.
  19. And I'd still consider it a mistake but I think Revere will do better in the NL and that ballpark than he ever would in Target Field. I fully agree, he's made for the NL and that park and a classy organization. I wish him the best. I just don't like the supposed Twins fans on a Twins blog who still want to get one more kick at a guy- who's done nothing wrong- as he's going out the door. Generally, I only kick the player, not the person. I like Revere. He's a blast to watch. He seems like a great guy who just wants to play baseball. But as a player, I don't think he's very good. That doesn't mean I wish him ill or anything, I just don't see his skillset playing out over the longterm.
  20. No, I think Gibson's chance of being in the Opening Day rotation is very much in the air. But now that the Twins have at least $25m to spend (based on current payroll and last year's number), they're going to have to go get somebody (or, more likely, multiple cheaper somebodies). I think the chances of going after some middle infield help has risen dramatically in the past hour.
