Episode 428: Bomba

Per the discussion on openers.  I wonder if the Twins have realized that for every advantage of an opener, there are disadvantages.  If an opener goes bad, it potentially really limits your options in the bullpen.  It seems that they have opted to stretch out outings from the pen which in turn should, optimize pen usage.

I think the Twins’ lack of an opener can be summed up with one stat:

The Twins’ bullpen has pitched the fewest innings in the AL.

If your starters are pitching a bunch of good innings, the need for an opener becomes less necessary.

True, yet decision seems to be organization wide and made during off season.
