IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Think about Life of Brian - the Monty Python classic.
IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 I wonder how many people in the franchise - players, coaches, FO types - are watching tonight. Hope it fires their blood for next year.
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 I'll be watching just for the Robbie Inkmikowski update - for old time's sake.
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Thanks for starting this. I asked about it, meant to start it and then had errands I had to get done. Duh. And I missed the first inning. Looks like Frankie has it working.
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Oh that's right its the playoffs, when the national announcers come in and ruin perfectly watchable games
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Just thought it would be fun to talk about real baseball (and something happy) after the lst couple of days of posts! Has to be electric in Pittsburgh .... such a long time since they've played in October. I remember singing "We Are Family" along with Sister Sledge, Willy and the gang.

I tuned in to it late and only saw his second inning, and the first called strike on Phillips had me muttering that if the umps had given him the outside strike when he was in Minnesota things might have gone differently. But the rest of that AB and the other two, Liriano completely earned.
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Good for Pitt to strike first. The Reds & Pirates have played each other so much recently. Very weird to have a play-in game between the 2 teams.
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Just thought it would be fun to talk about real baseball (and something happy) after the lst couple of days of posts! What is this "fun" and how long do you have to cook it?
IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 I'll be watching just for the Robbie Inkmikowski update - for old time's sake. Wow! Dozier has really let himself go in the off-season!
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 LOL. I'm from the sticks of Iowa so things like fun-see are pretty foreign to me. September was just a really long month -- maybe one of the longest in my 48 years of Twins fandom. And I have a feeling I'll be wathcing a lot more Royals and Cardinals games next summer.
righty8383 Verified Member Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Cueto needs to rise above it(the chanting crowd) if he wants to have a chance in this game.
Winston Smith Verified Member Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 They said that they had Frankie make some changes and it seems they saw something Rick missed.
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Plus he has a new batting coach .... gotta love the National League!
IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 They said that they had Frankie make some changes and it seems they saw something Rick missed. If I remember correctly, they said the Pirates were encouraging him to induce more ground balls - pitch to contact.
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Seeing a little of everything here. Including a great catch there.
ashbury Verified Member Posted October 2, 2013 Author Posted October 2, 2013 Cueto needs to rise above it(the chanting crowd) if he wants to have a chance in this game. Bit of a loss of composure, eh? Could kind of see that Martin homerun coming.
ashbury Verified Member Posted October 2, 2013 Author Posted October 2, 2013 Seeing a little of everything here. Including a great catch there. Plouffe would have made it look easy.
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 1. Think about Johnny Cueto. He couln't quite put it together as a Twin and tonight, he still can't put it together.
GCTF Verified Member Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 How come these lineups aren't littered with guys who were playing in independent leagues last year?
Winston Smith Verified Member Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Doesn't seem like the same game we've been watching.
ashbury Verified Member Posted October 2, 2013 Author Posted October 2, 2013 1. Think about Johnny Cueto. He couln't quite put it together as a Twin and tonight, he still can't put it together. LOL, whut? If you're referring to Bert Cueto, whew, that goes back a ways.
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 I think I've seen that whiff before, though. C'mon Justin.
ashbury Verified Member Posted October 2, 2013 Author Posted October 2, 2013 How come these lineups aren't littered with guys who were playing in independent leagues last year? Yeah, but we've the Reds' setup man, in Burton. They can just eat their hearts out. And if the Pirates need a #5 starter in this game, well, we've got theirs - too bad for them, no backsies.
Anorthagen Provisional Member Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Is Frankie going to implode in the 4th, like he did with us?
snepp Verified Member Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Is Frankie going to implode in the 4th, like he did with us? I looked up his career splits, and sure enough, the 4th inning was easily his worst.
ashbury Verified Member Posted October 2, 2013 Author Posted October 2, 2013 I looked up his career splits, and sure enough, the 4th inning was easily his worst. I don't keep up with the National League and was about to ask whether the Pirates lost any games this season, but this statistic gives me pause.
