ashbury Verified Member Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Doumit took a year and a half to wind up and throw that ball to first. Had to take time to properly frame it first.
IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 So just why exactly is that rule in the book anyway - dropped 3rd strikes?
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 So just why exactly is that rule in the book anyway - dropped 3rd strikes? Harks back to the very early days of baseball, when it was required that every out be recorded as a result of a fielding act. The strikeout had to be caught as though (on the third try) the bat had been put on the ball.

IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Cleveland Keystone Cops
stringer bell Verified Member Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 The Tribe doesn't deserve to win this game, for sure. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them (the Twins) not score after all the charity Cleveland has provided.
Beezer07 Provisional Member Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Willingham K, Doumit gets a walk, Plouffe DP
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Are we talking "you can throw the ball at the player to get an out" early days, or later than that? Pretty much. Soaking the runner sounds more like Town Ball, but all those variants were more about athleticism on defense than about pitching and batting for power. "The Scientific Game" as opposed to just brute bashing and throwing.
IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Is it possible to give both teams an L? Neither has earned a W.
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Willingham K, Doumit gets a walk, Plouffe DP Reasonable call, let's see how it plays out. Here's mine: Willingham DH, Doumit traded, Plouffe non-tendered. Have to wait for next Spring to find out.
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Cleveland Keystone Cops Also the Cuyahoga River championship Vintage Town Ball League team of 1913.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Horrible, just horrible. BTW, I'm sick of the announcers clamoring for a bunt with a runner on second and no outs and I'm really sick of hearing how inexperienced the Twins' position players are.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 argh. back to cleaning, organizing, hanging pictures, etc.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Honestly, I have seen better-played Little League games. Tons of Ks, tons of walks, tons of misplays.
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Willingham K, Doumit gets a walk, Plouffe DP Off in the details, but the big picture was exactly right.
IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Honestly, I have seen better-played Little League games. Tons of Ks, tons of walks, tons of misplays. Yep. Classic 1-1 pitchers duel.
IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Florimon! Ramirez! Yes! Watching that play makes up for having to sit through the previous three innings.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Okay ... no replay was shown on that (watching the Indians feed) ... was there a replay in MN? Was he out?
IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Okay ... no replay was shown on that (watching the Indians feed) ... was there a replay in MN? Was he out? Looked like it - got the tag on the right shoulder/arm just before he reached. Edit: Just saw another angle. He was safe. But I'll take it.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Okay ... no replay was shown on that (watching the Indians feed) ... was there a replay in MN? Was he out?Just shows what will happen with replay. From one angle it sure looked like Florimon tagged him on the shoulder, but the second view showed Pedro missed him with a great slide by Swisher.
glunn Community Moderator Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 I have to go to a DOG'S birthday party tonight. Wife making me go to Petco to buy a present.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 **** it. And I'm not going anywhere. I'm just gonna sit here and stew.
glunn Community Moderator Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 I am almost glad for that homer -- it reduces the chances of extra innings.

Get a really obnoxious sounding squeaky chew toy. The dog won't care, but it might make the owners think twice about throwing a birthday party for a dog.

glunn Community Moderator Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 No offense but... Pathetic. No offense taken.

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 No offense but... Pathetic. This game is more pathetic.
