  1. I like LaVelle. I have no problem with him whatsoever. I guess it all depends on what you want in a beat writer, IMO. But I'm personally happy with the coverage from the two dailies. And when I want deeper analysis, I come here.
  2. Twins aren't getting Urias. Dodgers wouldn't trade him for Chris Sale. So there's no reason to believe they'd trade him for a combination of Dozier and Santana. That said, I definitely get the sentiment: The Twins need high upside talent. They need a top-flight starter, not yet another No. 3 starter. But I'd be on board with them getting someone who is not quite major league ready if they get that No. 1 starter type. They're not competing next year, anyway.
  3. I would agree with this. I'd rather May start. And I expect that Haley would be a long reliever, at least at first. Hughes should also go to the bullpen. But I expect the Twins will have him start. Add to this a potential Dozier trade, maybe the Twins need to part with a starter.
  4. So who will start now? The Twins have a bunch of guys on the 40-man who can start: Ervin Santana Jose Berrios Justin Haley Kyle Gibson Mejia Trevor May Santiago Duffey Hughes I imagine May and Duffey go to the pen and so may Haley, if he makes the team, while Mejia stays in AAA. But I'd rather Hughes go to the pen and May start.
  5. Now Berardino saying the Twins are trading Diaz for Justin Haley ... https://twitter.com/MikeBerardino/status/806865703257174016
  6. Apparently, the Twins are going to trade their pick to the Padres, according to Jonathan Mayo on Twitter. https://twitter.com/JonathanMayo/status/806847348521496577
  7. I, for one, appreciate the clarification.
  8. I'm not saying he's not worth as much as Dozier. But that was one heck of a return for Adam Eaton.
  9. They have a lot of talent on the team. You wonder why they couldn't get over the hump. I think if I'm a White Sox fan I might be mad. But if you're going to do a rebuild, do a rebuild. Tear it all down and collect assets that will help you compete over the long term.
  10. If he's wrong then shame on us for putting too much stock in it. But that goes for all early reports of trades that are not soon confirmed by someone else. That said, how reliable has he been in the past with these reports or is he pulling our chain?
  11. I think in this market I look to trade Dozier, Santana and Kintzler. Because ... damn. I get that Eaton is an underrated player with a good contract. But Giolito and Lopez? Wow. White Sox farm system is stacked now.
  12. That was certainly the case with the Sale trade. That deal was all about Moncada and Kopech.
  13. De Leon in AAA last year: 3.02 ERA; sub-1 WHIP; 11 K/9; 2.1 BB/9. Yeah I'd probably take him.
  14. Ok, well, four players for Dozier seems solid to me, but again we'd have to see the specifics.
  15. You could throw in a Santiago along with Dozier and get better prospects in return, I'd think. If one of the players I was getting back was a pitcher, I'd sure do it. And Santiago would probably be better off in the National League, anyway.
  16. I would imagine if there are four pieces coming back, then the Twins are either giving something else up besides Dozier, or they are getting quantity, rather than quality - in other words, somewhat lesser prospects but more of them. In any event, I hope this is true. There is an awful lot of Twins-Dodgers smoke and it's difficult to envision something not getting done.
  17. The Twins have NOT drafted well recently. Let's hope that changes.
  18. I'd still say Urias would be untouchable for someone like Brian Dozier. Chris Sale was something of an exception. But I do believe it shows that teams in the hunt are willing to part with stud prospects for the right player. And Dozier should bring in a nice return.
  19. It's this simple: The Twins lost 103 games with Brian Dozier and his 40-plus homers and "leadership." He is with the Twins for two more years. The Twins are very unlikely to improve by 25 wins it will take to make the playoffs in that time, and certainly without trading an asset that can bring back multiple assets in return. There aren't enough strong players in free agency to get the Twins over the hump (and they wouldn't come here, anyway). Therefore, the Twins have to trade an asset to get something back. They need pitching, badly, and have guys who can step in at second. Dozier's value on the market will never be higher. Therefore, they have to trade him. Or at least they should explore the idea and see what kind of return he can fetch. Obviously, if nobody wants him, keep him. But if they're going to improve, it's imperative to trade Dozier for multiple assets who can help the team win for years ...
  20. Exactly. Buxton is far more valuable to the Twins than Moncada is to the Red Sox because the Sox have many more top-tier prospects than the Twins. Again, if we had three Buxtons, nobody would bat an eye at the Twins trading one of them for Chris Sale. That's basically what the Red Sox had. I just feel frustrated that the previous front office completely wasted all of those years of losing.
  21. Indeed. Drives me nuts. Poor drafting, development and not nearly enough aggressiveness on the international free agent market.
  22. No. He isn't. Just because Buxton struggled early on does not make him any less talented or diminish his potential. He is still very young. You would certainly consider Moncada a better prospect at this point because of Buxton's struggles, but Buxton's ceiling remains every bit as high at this point. Buxton is faster. He plays center field (which is a more important position than second or third base) and has plenty of power potential.
  23. The Red Sox's trade for Chris Sale is EXACTLY why teams should never, ever, ever stop pushing to get prospects. They bid aggressively for Moncada and drafted well in Benintendi. They have so many prospects they could easily afford to package two of the best ones, plus two more, in a deal to get one of the best pitchers in the league. And they're still stacked. People on this site would debate left and right about the possibility of trading Buxton for Sale because, let's face it, Buxton is the big hope this team has to reach competitiveness (along with pitching, of course). The Sox have a BUNCH of guys on Buxton's level, so many that it was no problem trading some of them.
  24. He's not a "significantly" better prospect than Buxton, whose ceiling remains sky high. But that's exactly who it would have taken to get Sale.
  25. Boy, if I had a stud reliever I would seriously consider making a trade if I wasn't in contention.
