    Saw Pryor pitch a few times, the stuff is there. Strong arm. If he can stay healthy and the Twins can teach him control (which they're pretty good at) we could have something. I like the move. Hopefully it works out better than Hoey. Plouffe is next, Dodgers I say.

    I laughed out loud at work on my lunch. Well played. The most iconic moment for me is the Kirby Puckett Home Run in Game 6 of the 91' World Series. After he makes the catch, he sends it to game 7. I still get chills when I hear John Gordon yell: "Touch 'em all Kirby Puckett!" and seeing Kirby celebrate rounding first base. Even John Buck's call: "and we'll see you... tomorrow night!" CHILLS my friends. CHILLS!

    Agreed. As a savior of the Twins pitching staff, as in 2013, I don't like Pelfrey. As a back of the rotation guy, he's a nice fit and I feel good about it.

    Given that the Twins said they won't give up a draft pick for a free agent starter out there (nor should they I think), I foresee a trade coming for that second starter acquisition. Here is my wish list I'm sending to Santa and BCCing Terry Ryan. 1. Jeff Smardjia (too lazy to look up the spelling - you get the idea) 2. Homer Bailey 3. Luke Hochevar 4. Brett Anderson 5. Chad Billingsley Fairly young pitchers with risk (more affordable) and pretty high ceilings. I'm usually skeptical of NL pitchers making the jump to DHland but the above NL pitchers have the stuff and talent to transcend and overcome. I think Rosario is the big bargaining chip, there needs to be more of course but would love to see the Twins sell some of these A ball potential prospects before they fizzle out in AAA like most do. Let them fizzle out in someone else's AAA for a change. Don't make me compile a list please.

    Good article. I don't think Terry Ryan isn't evil. He's not a cheapskate, well mostly. He is the new scapegoat now that Carl died. Terry Ryan does deals that he feels are worth it. He's not going to make a deal to make the fans feel better. He's going to do a deal because it makes sense with what he has and what he's given and what's out there. I like that we don't overpay for free agents just because. He refuses to accept market value and that's fine with me. I think last year he took what we could afford and what was decent practical value. No it wasn't amazing but for the money, Correia turned out to be one of the better free agent pitchers in '13 numbers wise. And mostly everyone else stole a paycheck. A great example of this is the mike pelfrey offer. Twins offered him a contract but for what he's worth, not market value for him. Hence the 3-4 million dollar gap between what he wants and what TR is willing to pay. TR doesn't do market value. And someone with more time than me will prove how not worth it most free agents are for their market value. The 2nd upgrade pitcher this offseason will come by trade.

    Timmy hates the cold. And hates humid summers. And he's a diva when it comes to weather. My guess is he lands somewhere in California, Seattle (his native land) or.... Well Anywhere else would completely shock the Bay Area. His arm isn't tired, it's old school rubber. Leave him alone with that pitch count hubub and the DL will leave him alone. He is in transition. He is finally learning how to pitch now that he's lost some velocity. He has it figured he just needs to be consistent and completely let go of the old Cy Young Timmy. I saw most of his starts here in the Bay Area and he is an interesting gamble. he could be a top notch #2 and what you want going in to the playoffs. The Cy Young Freak is no more. Every time he tries to be that again, he fails. The X factor is he could be coerced by a huge contract to be a reliever (2012 playoffs) where he has been infallible. He's not my first pick but I wouldn't complain if we found a way to bring him in. He's fun to watch! Good luck trying to sugarcoat 4 snowless months out of the year.

    To re-but the previous Bailey anecdote: I watched, with my own two eyes, Homer Bailey throw a no hitter using only his fastball. The man can pitch. We need that. Would he want to sign an extension with the 2013 Twins? No. Would he want to sign an extension to pitch 3 more years with the Twins? Probably. With two of the top 3 prospects in the game and more slated to arrive in those three years, not a bad place to stick around. That's where I'd want be. Interesting that Scherzer and Price have been thrown around as potentially available too, recently.

    I do really like Collabello, would rather see him platoon with Mauer at 1st in between days when Mauer catches. But parmalee just can't be consistent. He never really has been throughout any level. We have too many rookies who are going to be up and down. We need constant reliable hitters at each corner.

    Timmy won't go to Minnesota it's too cold and too humid. The Twins don't do head cases well and he is one. Very interesting thoughts I'm seeing. Mauer can play C, I just think before the season is over he moves so a rental 1st baseman is best. Being a transported Twins fan in the Bay Area I'm seeing two front offices freak out about the health of their stud, once in a generation, MVP catchers and how the position is already showing signs of wear. They certainly become less elite if they move positions but a .330 hitter is still elite. If Hicks starts in AAA as he should, who plays center and/or leads off? Presley? Mastrionanni? That reminds me of the Chad Allen days. And I don't like that. Which is why Davis is interesting, who had a good year despite injuries and was actually getting on base. If we don't bring in rental power like Hart, rental speed would make Gardy happy. Me too.

    Thanks for the welcome everyone. Got faulty interwebs info about Hochevar and arbitration. Makes it more difficult to make a deal. But even through trade I think he's a worthy investment. Not too old. He just looked right out on the mound this year. I figure Hart is cheap coming off the injury. If he plays 120+ games healthy, and hits the ball like he does, he could be a good interim player until the youth is properly seasoned. Hopefully Twins won't hang on too long like Willingham though. I'd just hate for Plouffe to get even worse and the promise of yester-year's 20+ HR's is too far away for teams to remember. Maybe we're already there. Any thoughts on a free agent veteran #1 to hold the fort until Meyer and Co. arrive?

    I would like to see Twins take a good look at Luke Hochevar. At roughly 5-7 mil for Hochevar (4.5 now) it's worth looking in to. He seems to have figured it out in the bullpen. Might be worth giving Pelfrey - Correia money for a good bullpen guy at worst. At best, his bullpen numbers and potential (#1 overall) turn out and he's a top notch starter. As a bullpen guy, he's blocked from being a closer in KC but could be a good replacement for us if we get a good offer for Perk. Elsewhere: I would prefer to bring in a former #1 Hudson, Halladay, Johann Santana (all successful in AL) and a youngen' (relatively) like Hammel or even Hughes. I would move Mauer to 1st and let it ride with Pinto. Also think Sano is opening day 3rd baseman and Plouffe nets an arm on the market - then hits 30 homers elsewhere. Can we really have Sano, Pinto, Arcia AND Hicks on opening day lineup? That is a lot of learning on the job happening. But big reward if it works. rajai davis, Corey Hart and James Loney are interesting guys to add as an alternative to the above "extreme youth scenario".
