  1. They should absolutely look into signing him if the price is reasonable. He has a nice arm. According to FanGraphs he and Gibson average over 92 mph and the rest of the starters fall in around 89 or 90. Not that velocity is everything, but it's nice to have a few guys that can break a pane of glass with their fastball. I'm not sure I'd want anything more than a two year deal though. The TJ guys come with high risk/inconsistency. I seem to recall Liriano looked good for a while after TJ, then sucked and now looks good again. And Philip Humber teased with one good year and then sucked. It seems like an every other year thing...
  2. Yes - I know this which is why I put banking in quotes. I'm saying that I'm okay with the Pohlads not spending hard in FA this year as long as they continue adding to a young core: Meyer, May and Worley were added to Hicks, Arcia, Sano, Gibson, Rosario etc. When that group is ready (most likely next year), that's the time to spend by locking up players and filling in missing pieces. In reading through this thread, it seems like many are saying the team is not better and point to their record and the product on the field. That's one way to look at it. But I look at it as an Organization not just the 25 man. I think the Organization is much better this year than last year or two years ago. They have some very good young talent that's knocking on the door. Now they just need to perform when they get their opportunity.
  3. I agree with this. I hated the Corriea signing when it happened, but he's been a fine stop gap guy. Pelfrey is coming around and certainly could end up being a good signing if he can keep this up for the rest of the year. They picked up one excellent prospect (Meyer) and another decent prospect (May) which could contribute as early as next year. They have Gibson and Wimmers coming back from injury. Hendricks and Worley are still relatively young and could bounce back next year. So that's 6 fairly young guys with upside competing for spots next year. My opinion on free agency is it's best used when you just need a final piece or two to add to an already good club. I don't have a problem with them "banking" money this year knowing they had too many holes to plug at once. But once they pieces start falling in place, they better spend to retain/lock up key guys.
