  1. He certainly can log the innings. Also on the bright side, the Twins don't need to add a Tommy John surgery into the contract negotiations as a benny because he's already got one. [insert rim shot] As long as the search is not over for more, I approve of this signing.
  2. You often wonder whether the worst to first year in 91 could ever be duplicated in the current free agency market without simply overpaying to everything. No matter what the diminished return for Morneau would be, I believe the alienation of the fan base would overshadow what good would come of it in the short term.
  3. Nice visual. And, yes, it is quite obviously time for the Twins management to adopt some quality arms before all that's left are the dogs with too many fleas. Woof.
  4. I'm sure that's what he meant. We all have "math" moments.
  5. It is what it is. I'd play the cards dealt because Twins teams over the past decade have done more with less. Remember all the complaining on the web when Joe Nathan was anointed as the closer? Holy moley! I thought a rabid group of fans with pitchforks ans torches was going to sack the dome. That deal turned out just fine. This bevvy of righthanders they've got might surprise...like that little know Breslow kid did a few years ago.
  6. The best teams the Twins have put together over the last decade have been "on the cheap" so I don't see how that could be a bad thing. The Twins spent a massive wad of money last year and got the shaft. However, I will cautiously agree with FJ on the one point that they have a tremendous hill to climb to do well this year. I do not agree with the belief that everyone and their brother who may have done good last year is going to regress into A ball players like he suggests. In fact, I am of the sort that would save that post for the end of the season so I can remind him of where he was wrong. The plan you laid out, Seth, appears to be a prudent business plan for the Twins. If it falls together as you suggest then they will be able to shift from buyer to sellers or vice-verse quite easily.
