  1. After pitching into the ninth inning in his major league debut last Tuesday, lefthander Andrew Albers set quite a standard for himself as he approached his second start. “If he goes out and tries to duplicate what he did before,” Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said before the game, “he’ll get in trouble.” Albers didn’t duplicate. He added on ....here's the link to strib article... Twins shut out Cleveland 3-0 behind Andrew Albers | Star Tribune Granted gardy could be talking about his approach...but the way the article was pieced together makes it seems unlikely. who knows...but if i was a young kid on a team and an article conveys a message from the manager that I shouldn't expect to be that good again...well
  2. Well it was one start...and the message was to not try for that again...what is he supposed to do...the Twins way and shoot for 5 runs in 3 innings? I get tempering young kids...but Gardy's message to Albers was "it was a fluke kid...you aren't any good"...now that may be the case, and it may not...but you don't say crap like that. Like I said...maybe Gardy meant to say "expect"...which would make sense...but again, can't give gardy benefit of doubt here. I want to be on record that I want all the young players from now on, to ignore every word Gardy says.
  3. “If he goes out and tries to duplicate what he did before,” Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said before the game, “he’ll get in trouble.” it bothers me greatly. I sometimes argue semantics too much...However...you have a young pitcher who pitched a great debut...and the manager makes a comment with the key word tries...I dont know about you, but I want my pitchers to try for that each and every time. if they don't, they don't belong. Maybe Gardy meant "expect"...but I can no longer give him the benefit of the doubt. Sometimes I get the ridiculous feeling that Gardy's message is channeling Homer Simpson "Kids, you tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try"...."If something's hard to do, then it's not worth doing" Anyways, what do you guys think of his quote in the strib after Albers actually did try to do it again...And do you think Albers will be benched for not following orders.
  4. well it will take a while to shake out...I will bet vital parts of my anatomy that the end result favors the estate vs the IRS...and Im not giving sympathy...but thier tax lawyers used every tool available to them put forth by the IRS in the form of FLP and LLC, etc...the end result will determine if laws were broken.
  5. everyone gtting worked up on this topic needs to re-read IdahoPilgrim's osts again..spot on. The pohlads are cheap...Carl made Billions running banks and selling them...Carl foreclosed on a lot of farms during depression...probably a place in hell for him based on that...not the issue here... The Pohlads have been cheap owners. They have typiically never done what the fan base in general has asked them to do. They bilked a stadium out of the public. There is probably a spot in hell for them on that one...Not the issue here This is straight up estate tax. for those that have never dealt with it (and its not just for the rich) it is nasty Any parent and I mean any parent that has anything worth leaving thier children will work thier arses off to make sure the kids get it... I have attached my lighting rod so fire away...but federal and state should not get a large percentage of your estate just because you die. I despise the pohlads...but kudos to them for finding a way to keep the government out of thier stuff
  6. The prospects we have is making it very exciting to be a twins fan right now. I am enough of a fossil to have experienced the 87 Twins and watched them come up through system in early 80's....I am getting that same feeling this time around...it feels like we can finally shrug that monkey off our back...we have some nice talent...but what makes it interesting is that all of our talent seems to be trying to crash the gate right now...
  7. I've always had the impression that the Twins were like the woman in a relationship and the player the man....The Twins search and search for that perfect fit...and step one is to set about how to change that man...you dont go shopping for sedans...so you can turn it into a camaro...and you don't go lookng for camaros and try to turn them into sedans...you found exactly what you were looking for...Im all for polishing up a diamond in the rough...but sometimes it seems the twins overestimate thier ailities and the player's ability to change and in response to someones post above (too lazy to look up who)...the Twins have had management change at all levels...BUT..the philosophy has NEVER changed...and even when the GM stepped down...he was still there...this organization has thought the exactly same way for decades...and that is a problem for any type of business...whether you are playing baseball or selling widgets.
  8. I remember that story from when I was a kid...wish i had listened to the game to fianlly hear his side of the story...maybe because I am twisted, but I loved that story...teams need a little of that dynamic to them...maybe not so much the drive over to the house and punch someone...but more of teammates willing to confront other players and let them know what you think. but I might be biased...because the 87 team will always be my favorite.
