  1. TR: What will it take to get Jepsen? Rays GM: Who? TR: Deal!
  2. I played baseball in high school and chew was never around. I smoked a few cigarettes but the buzz of tobacco was never appealing to me. In my mid-20s I started playing in a wood bat league with a bunch of college kids. I would say 60% of the team chewed. I always thought it was disgusting and I never had any interest in chewing. But being around it, I was tempted to try it. I remember thinking that it was really weird to feel peer pressure from guys that were 5-7 years younger me and how I was tempted to try something that I never had interest in. I wonder if other ball players, professional and otherwise, started chewing in a similar manner.
  3. Are the Twins really going to carry a third catcher? It seems that Mauer could fill in for a part of a game with limited risk and then another could be called up. I was hoping with Mauer's move, there would be no more need to carry a third catcher. I guess if the third catcher is Hermann, it isn't a huge deal because of his versatility.
  4. I wouldn't be willing to give up the rest of the draft for him. Now if he signs for a little over slot then he is definitely worth it. You make it sound like he is the greatest pitching prospect to come along in a really long time. I haven't been paying attention to the draft for that many years, but I don't see it. He is arguably the second best pitching prospect in this draft and was arguably the second best talent last year.
  5. I agree. After reading each profile, I really wanted the guy I just read about, with the exception of the Georgia OFs and McGuire. I hope Appel doesn't fall to the Twins because he isn't worth giving up the rest of the draft. I'm hoping for Gray or Stewart.
  6. If they would have lost, I'm sure Gardy would have said something like Correia giving up the lead. The comeback win puts a different slant on the game. Instead of Correia getting behind and then giving the lead back, he pitched 'fantastic' and gave them the chance to win.
  7. Seth, why are you concerned about college position players being more injury prone? I kind of like the fact that his arm should have less wear on it than someone who has been pitching through high school and college. I'm really intrigued by Shipley especially since he hasn't been pitching for very long. Since he has only pitched 1 year, there should be a lot of room for improvement. And with his fastball-change up combination, his absolute floor should be solid reliever. I know that isn't what you want from the number 4 pick, but I like that better than the floor of Stewart, which is probably AA. Not that I don't like Stewart, but Shipley seems like he has a higher floor with a probably slightly lower ceiling.
  8. I don't think Pelfrey would refuse assignment unless he thought someone would pick him up. In that case, the other team would pick up the salary. I really hope that money doesn't prevent a move.
  9. Because that doesn't really solve the problem. If they want to call up Walters or Albers they will need to 60 day DL Wood and DFA someone. Whether or not the the Twins expect anything out of Wood, there is no point in possibly losing him. If he gets healthy and they still need the additional roster spot, they can DFA him then. There is no benefit in making that decision today.
  10. The more I read about this draft, the more I have no idea what I want the Twins to do. Ideally, I would like them to get a front line starter, but after Gray and Appel, I'm not sure who I want. Certainly there are pitchers with top of the rotation ceilings, but they all have a ton of risk. I think I'm starting to lean towards a position player despite the lack of pitching depth in the organization.
  11. It almost has to be Gibson, right? They already have to make another move on the 40 man for Deduno on Friday. I doubt they make another move after likely moving Wood to the 60 day DL.
  12. Any idea on what to expect from him? His numbers are great in AAA, but I've seen tempered expectations on him. Is there any reason to think he could be the Chris Parmelee we all hoped we had last year after he tore up AAA?
  13. I guess it is basically an argument of semantics. Your definition of a 1 is my definition of an ace. I would say a 1 is pretty much what you describe as a 2. And I would agree that Diamond is a borderline 3 in a contending rotation. Based on your definition, I would say Manaea is worth the number 4 pick, but I think you need to draft best player available. If it doesn't fill a need then you can always trade someone to get what you need.
  14. A number 3 starter is the definition of league average. If 1s and 2s are above average and 4s and 5s are below average, then number 3s are league average.
