  1. I don't see where Gardy was out of line here. I suppose it's possible he should have sat stoically in the dugout until Hicks came in & then addressed the situation but he didn't go crazy...it's just that the camera/announcers made a huge deal of the situation. I suspect the reason he reacted that way was because this wasn't a one time incident. I recall Hicks non-chalanting routine fly balls on several occasions. He will kind of get there just in time & then "plop" his glove out to the side to make the catch. He always catches it but he sure isn't going to make a good impression...especially if you are struggling at just about every aspect of the game. I've never heard anything negative about Hicks regarding his attitude in the minors but so far Gardy has had to get on him about hustling & now this incident. I'm a Hicks fan but I think time in AAA would be the best thing for him.
  2. It's not really a wasted pick anymore. IIRC, they would get the #5 pick in next years draft, which is supposed to be much better. I'm not saying they should/would do that but it's not a terrible strategy. It s better than settling for someone this year that isn't really worth it.
  3. The statistics don't back up your statement about Gardy getting more IP from his starters in recent years. The last 3 years the Twins starters have averaged 5.9/5.4/ 5.4 innings per start If you go back to 2004/05/06 the Twins starters averaged 6.1/6.3/5.8 innings per start. That doesn't indicate that Gardy has "evolved".He's pulling his starters quicker now than previously. I think it's simply because his SP is much worse now than back then. If Duensing would have come in & gave up a HR to Fielder I would have NEVER bitched that he should have let Pelfrey stay in & bear down & get Fielder out. Pelfrey was gassed..Duensing was the correct choice.
  4. I also sometimes DVR the Twins game & come here before I've had a chance to watch them. I really appreciate the minor league report ( & the draft info) & it's not a big issue but I agree with 70charger's view. I love to see how the minor league prospects are doing & linking the box scores is an added bonus. Keep up the good work!
  5. Pelfrey has been struggling so they should have taken him out while he still had a good start going. Plus, they SHOULD try to win every game that is winnable. The average ML starting pitcher goes 5.7 innings per start so if you are getting 5 innings from your worst starter I would consider that a success. They don't have to ;pull him every time he gets 5 innings in but I don't see the logic of blowing a game just so Pelfrey can get stretched out. They still pulled him after 5.3 IP but it was after the damage was done.
  6. He's not going to get fired but it was a horrible decision to leave Pelfrey in to face Fielder. Pelfrey has been struggling all year & was lucky to get thru 5 innings with only one run. Gardy should have pulled him after Cabrera walked. He did the same stupid move with Correia in the KC game. Gardy's not going to get fired ..nor should he. I know they are doing better than expected but he has cost the Twins a "chance" to win two games that they had a very good chance to win.
  7. Yea, I didn't do a good job of seperating my thoughts. #1. Borbon is a decent option in CF(good D & speed) & his stats are actually comparable to Revere's( although I'd rather have Revere). #2. Hick's is currently hitting .044 & striking out a ton but we have almost no other option but to play him. Long term I think Hicks will be fine but I'm not certain running him out there every day is a good idea. Almost every player goes up & down a few times before they stick. The only current Twin I can think of that stayed up is Mauer. With Mastro on the DL I'm not sure who plays CF if Hicks is out? An OF of Willingham in LF, Ramirez in CF & Parmelee in RF would be challenging, to say the least
  8. I'm not anti-Hicks. In the long run I think he will be a really good ML player but right now he is struggling big time. He skipped AAA & I believe he should go to AAA & get more experience but we currently don't even have any other options. I was comparing Reveres stats vs Borbon(not Hick's) when Shane stated that Borbon...."He's been not good at all as a major leaguer." Borbon hasn't been that bad, he just got passed in Texas & is a victim of the numbers game.
  9. I think Borbon is an overall better option than Boggs. Borbon is a much superior centerfield defender, faster & he has had some success at the major league level. He has a .283 BA with a .324 OBP & has been an effective basestealer. That's way better than Boggs. Ben Revere has a .273 BA & a .315 OBP. Who do we have for CF right now? A guy hitting .044 who strikes out 39% of his AB's. That's it. Our other options are Ramirez, Boggs, Benson & Clete Thomas...& Benson is the only one of those that is good at CF. If they can claim him, there isn't much downside. They can easily remove someone from the 40 man roster & while Borbon isn't great..he's better than the other options the Twins have right now. Worst case scenerio, they get rid of him after he fails/Mastroianni returns.
  10. Another pitcher I was wondering about is Joshua Burris. Is he hurt or just being held back? TIA
