    Royce Lewis
Why not hype Royce Lewis as AL rookie of the year? Rookies with a full year (or nearly so) in the league have a certain advantage, but none of the familiar names have numbers approaching Royce. Royce is number one in average, slugging, HR/AB, RBI/AB, and OPS.
Rankings by OPS w 200 minimum AB:
    Royce Lewis .302/.365/.545 202 AB 14 HR 50 RBI and .910 OPS
Tristan Casas (Bos) .263/.367/.490 429 AB 24 HR 65 RBI and .857 OPS
Zach Gelof (Oak) .268/.335/.516 213 AB 11 HR 25 RBI and .851 OPS
Yanier Diaz (Hou) .285/.309/.536 330 AB 21 HR 56 RBI and .845 OPS
Edouard Julian (Min) .266/.379/.454 293 AB 13 HR 27 RBI and .833 OPS
Gunnar Henderson (Bal) .257/.327/.496 502 AB 26 HR 76 RBI and .823 OPS
Josh Jung (Tex) .274/.323/.489 427 AB 22 HR 67 RBI and .812 OPS

Michael Rand today quotes extensively from an article by Washington Post writer Thomas Boswell. The gist of Boswell's article is to criticize the high wall in right center that makes home runs to that part of the ballpark much too difficult.

Target Field is a lovely downtown home for the Twins, classy and comfortable if not breathtaking. But until that right field wall becomes remotely fair to hitters, especially in the 120-foot-long power-alley expanse from the 385-to-403 signs, this is a badly flawed design.

    I agree.

Sano's left-right splits at New Britain are backwards. His OPS against righties is .965, but against lefties, it is only .714 (overall .899). This would appear to be a positive stat in that his performance against lefties is likely to catch up and pass what he is already doing against righties.

Anyone have access to his splits for earlier teams? Has this been a persistent pattern?

With New Britain likely headed toward the playoffs, we may not see some prospects early in September. Hermsen and Benson would be probables, but I am especially eager to see Hicks and Arcia. With his five hits on Wednesday, Hicks has moved to the top ten in league OPS, and most of the others on the list are 1B or DH. Most importantly, his left-handed productivity has caught up with his right-handed productivity this summer. Meanwhile, Arcia would be leading the league in both BA and OPS if he had qualifying plate appearances.
