I was 9 years old when "Born in the USA" came out. If my memory serves me correctly, he knocked off Michael Jackson's "Thriller" as the top song on Solid Gold or something like that. I was pissed off, what 9 year old at that time wouldn't have been... Michael Jackson was God. I thought Dancing in the Dark and Born in the USA were the cheesiest songs ever made at that time. Maybe a year or two later I heard "I'm on Fire", I really digged that song, still do. My favorite song of his is "Streets of Philadelphia". Once in a while it might bring a tear to my eye. Those are pretty bare bones songs and I probably should take a closer look at his acoustic work and I will. Whether you like or dislike his music, the guy is a rock legend and his contributions to music are about as good as it can get. I respect what he stands for, because for half of my life, he stood up for people like me and continues to do so. The Boss is an institution.
