Top Destinations for Justin Morneau

I just want to make sure I come out aggressively with this comment so I can be proven badly wrong minutes or hours later: I still don't believe that Morneau will be traded. Gleeman and Bonnes seemed almost sure he would be gone because they're applying baseball logic to the front office.

I think the Twins are very cautious about shooting themselves in the foot with their fans regarding players they actually care about. Trading Morneau isn't like dumping Luis Castillo or even Liriano at the deadline. This guy was an MVP and a face of the franchise. There are a ton of people who still believe he's a middle of the order hitter. They're wrong, but that doesn't mean their opinions don't "matter".

If the return for a Morneau rental is Eduardo Escobar and a replacement level reliever, yes, that makes "baseball sense" by incrementally adding assets, but let's be real, they aren't getting anything of value. And if they have to pick up a portion of the salary to move him, I'm even less convinced that this front office will pay for a player they no longer employ, WHILE pissing off the fans for trading him in the first place.

Are you under the impression the Twins management care about their fans' opinions?

Can we enact a rule of no more Bundy references?

Motion granted.

I do like the idea of maybe trading for Matusz. That's a realistic target.

Can Bundy even be traded? He has to be on some DL somewhere doesn't he?

I wondered this too after the Orioles supposedly called about him. Everything I've heard is that no team is willing to give up much to acquire Morneau, but they just have to pull the trigger to avoid losing him for nothing.

Y! SPORTS

It will be tough to get rid of a guy that's in the hearts of many Twins fans, but the team would hinder its development if they keep him on the roster for a few more meaningless months.

Question: Can the Orioles trade future competitive balance picks when they have not been determined? If they could, it would make some sense to trade their 2014 pick for Morney and salary relief. The Twins could then use that pick or trade it.

Competitive balance picks have already been determined. The O's have the second overall comp A pick which would be a damn good haul for Morny. I would say that sounds like to high of a price for Morny but last year the Pirates traded the same pick + Gorkys Hernandez for Gaby Sanchez. Hopefully the O's are just as desperate. That pick would be most likely a top 35 pick and worth about ~1.5M.

32 overall in a deep draft... yeah, I'd do that in a heart beat.
