Byron Buxton Isn’t the Next David Ortiz

I think this article takes the David Ortiz comparison too literally. I don't think anyone looks at Buxton and Ortiz and thinks they are similar players or would be traded/non-tendered for similar reasons. They're worried about the concept of "David Ortiz" and Buxton becoming a similar figure in MN sports folklore over the next 15 years. Injuries are always a part of any Buxton conversation and understandably so, but based on his obvious talent, I'd be surprised if he doesn't have at least 1-2 years in which he plays 145+ games and is an MVP contender. Picture him doing it for the Yankees and try not to vomit all over yourself.- 32 replies

We must fight the urge to squabble over what "elite" means (Joe Flacco is NOT elite). Whether he is or isn't doesn't matter. This is as much about timing than anything. If we get to May and Dozier is slashing .210/.270/.350, we'll be wishing we took the De Leon + ? when we could've.

If they landed JDL+Alvarez+Buehler, I'd take my shirt off and run around outside yelling at people, demanding they accept Falvine as their personal lord and savior.

Hi everyone, first time poster, long time lurker. I don't understand the need for MLB ready pitching specifically. I like De Leon and I'd be happy with him as a trade centerpiece. However, I think the Twins should simply look to maximize value rather than target a lower quality player, simply because they're close to MLB. I'd love to see a JDL + Alvarez package come to Minnesota. The Twins farm system is not depleted by any means, but with the graduation of several youngsters, I think the lower levels could stand to be replenished with a guy like Alvarez + #1 draft pick. I'd rather build a sustainable farm system with high upside prospects scattered across several levels. If Dozier isn't traded this offseason, the speculation on the offers that may or may not have been received one way or the other, will be WILD.
