The Twins traded a number of prospects at the 2022 Trade Deadline, like Cade Povich, Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Spencer Steer. How badly has it hurt the system?

It's that time of the year again! Major League teams need to set their 40-man rosters in advance of the annual Rule 5 draft. Every team has decisions to make. Some are easy decisions. Some are hard decisions. And some teams will make mind-numbingly bad decisions. Or at least that's what their fans think. We cover the Rule 5 draft and more in the twelfth episode of Destination: The Show. 0:00 Intro 4:00 Craig Counsell to the Cubs 10:14 Kala'i Rosario wins the AFL Home Run Derby 14:32 Rule 5 - what is it? 18:35 What happens when a player is drafted? 21:00 How common is it to find a great player? 25:50 What teams are looking for? 27:30 Brewers Overview - main options 33:15 Other possible Milwaukee adds 36:37 Cubs Overview 48:50 Twins Overview You can support the show by downloading it from wherever you get your podcasts, leaving us a positive review and five star rating at iTunes or Spotify, retweeting show related content on Twitter, and subscribing to the Twins Daily YouTube page. Episode 10 of Destination: The Show is a 47-minute interview with Cedar Rapids Kernels co-pitching coach Jonas Lovin. The entire episode consists of his personal journey in baseball, general player development questions, specific player questions and listener questions. Image courtesy of Thiéres Rabelo It's a Twins-heavy episode, but there's a lot of interesting notes from Jonas Lovin about communication between teams, goals for players and how teams handle promoted players. Regardless of what team you cheer for, it's full-on nerding-out about the finer points of baseball. 0:00 - Intro 1:51 - What was Jonas' personal journey through baseball and how did he get connected with the Twins. 5:32 - How different is coaching at the collegiate level than the professional level? And how have the Twins supported you? 7:42 - What type of conditions do you try to create to help players thrive? 12:03 - How do you blend the old-school with the new-school way of thinking? 13:19 - Player development - new promotions, getting information, setting goals. 15:23 - How clear is the 2024 pitching forecast? 17:00 - The 2022 Draft Haul with specific time stamps for each of the following pitchers: 18:34 - Corey Lewis 21:17 - CJ Culpepper 23:01 - Zebby Matthews 27:40 - Andrew Morris 29:36 - Kyle Jones 31:30 - How good will the competition in between those players be and what's the biggest step going to be to have success at AA. 34:30 - How impressive was Connor Prielipp when healthy? 35:45 - Listener Questions 41:41 - We ask Jonas to make "under-the-radar" picks for pitchers that he coached. Late Monday night, Twins Daily learned that Thad Levine is not currently in consideration for the lead job with the Red Sox. Jon Heyman reported this weekend that Levine and former Twin Craig Breslow were "prominently in the mix." Image courtesy of Mark J. Rebilas (Image of Thad Levine and John Mozeliak).) But something must have changed in the last 72 hours, though it is unclear if Boston pulled the plug on negotiations or if Levine may have turned down the job or simply removed himself from consideration. After trading Mookie Betts in February 2020 in a move that appeared to be pushed by ownership, there is some belief that ownership's involvement makes the general manager (or president of baseball operations) job less appealing. Earlier Monday, Cody Christie had an in-depth write-up on Boston's pursuit of Levine. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Former Twin Craig Breslow appears to now be the sole front-runner. Twins President of Baseball Operations Derek Falvey turned down an interview and now Thad Levine appears to not be a finalist. What's the Red Sox next move? When do they make a hire? Or were Boston and Levine far enough down the road that conversations can be rekindled? None of that is clear right now, but we could have answers soon. Others have confirmed and added additional context: View full article

After a one-week break, draft tandem JD Cameron and Jeremy Nygaard are back to talk all things baseball. Conversation includes the playoffs, rookie contributors, the 2024 draft and, of course, answering some listener questions. Image courtesy of Thiéres Rabelo 0:00 - Introduction and how we feel about the Twins and Brewers seasons coming to an end. The trio of teams that are covered are now all done playing... but the offseason! 5:00 - The draft order is not set yet, but it's starting to clear up. What does this mean for the Cubs, Brewers and Twins and how could the draft order - at least in the first round - change. 13:30 Rintaro Sasaki leaving Japan and going to an American university. What does this mean, not only for Sasaki, but the future of Japanese preps? 19:24 We spent some time on rookies. We have a range of disappointing outcomes from the Cubs capitulation and missing the playoffs, to the Brewers wildcard exit, to the Twins losing in the Divisional Round. 20:41 Focused on Javier Assad and Jordan Wicks, with a dishonorable mention for the team's handling of Pete Crow-Armstrong. 26:02 The talk centered around Brice Turang and Sal Frelick, both what they provided and what their futures could be. 33:14 The Twins boasted some stud rookies, led by Royce Lewis and Edouard Julien. While they both fit into the team's long-term plans, where do they fit defensively? 45:49 Answered listener questions wondering about which prospects we're both excited to see as well as a question about the Twins rotation in 2024 and potential free agent targets.
